Literary Bond: 6' 167 lb

Connery in Dr No: 6' 2½"

Lazenby in OHMSS: 6' 2"

Moore in LALD: 6' 1"

Dalton in TLDL: 6' 2"

Brosnan in GE: 6' 1½"

Craig in CR: 5' 10"

Anyone know the Bond actors approximate weight at the time they debuted as Bond?

I do know it's been said that Brosnan was both the lightest AND heaviest actor to play Bond, depending on the picture...no mean feat!

As for specific numbers, I've no idea...and they'd be widely varied if weighed now versus when they played the part. It would be interesting to find out, though!

I am interested in their weight when they debuted as Bond and were in good shape.

I think you are right when you say Brosnan was the lightest (Goldeneye).

But I think the heaviest must be Craig (Casino Royale).

I actually think Brozzer in DAD was the heaviest, though he admittedly carried it fairly well...BTW, DanielCraig007, we're not allowed to post Eon-copyrighted images on this site; I'd remove them before the mods do.

Yep, I heard Brosnan was both the lightest and heaviest of all the actors. I don't think Craig would have been as heavy as you'd think - he's a short bloke in comparison and when you look at him in clothes next to his leading ladies he's not that big at all. I don't believe Craig is 5'10" either. When you look at him in CR walking around the Ocean Club with M and compare that to Brosnan walking in the underground with M in DAD there is a vast difference - certainly more than 3 1/2 inches if Brosnan is indeed 6'1 1/2". I would have thought Connery was the heaviestof all the actors myself.

I got the height statistics from IMDB... they could be wrong...
You may be right when you say Connery was the heaviest. He was also the tallest if you can trust IMDBs statistics...

I can't believe Roger Moore is over 6 feet, he only looks like a little fella', and Craig could well be a bit less than 5'10 but probably made more effort than any of the others to put on muscle for the part. I would guess both the heaviest and tallest would be either Connery, Dalton or Lazenby.

I'm not sure how Moore looks like a little fella, but Craig is 5' 10" or so.

I'm a shade under 5' 9", and Craig looks taller than me. He keeps his hair "liftless" as Bond, so that may make him seem a little shorter when standing next to someone with "big hair," too.

He definitely looks taller when he's wearing fewer clothes -- his build gives him that stocky look that a lot of guys under 6' have when bulked up and wearing a suit. Wearing a three piece doesn't help him.

Heaviest must have been Connery in DAF, borderline obese at times and of course he's a tall guy. Must have been heavier than Brozzer.

Hanging on those times he did at the Oil Platform and Whyte House must have been tough. During the shoots, both Connery and the piton must have been shouting in their mind, "when are you going to say, "Cut!!!""

Yes, that golden word beloved of actoprs - "Cut!". I think they waited for the director to say cut when they filmed the stuntman taking Bond's fall from the cable car in Moonraker - but the golden word never came. Saw this all in a Bond film documentary once.

Of all the actors who played Bond, David Niven might actually have been the closest to Bond in height, weight and physique, considering also Fleming's supposed preference for his casting for DN. Niven's height was 6' even and, "[His] figure is still trim, and he weighs a steady 172 pounds." -Chicago Tribune - Dec 10, 1978. This should give us some sobering insight when speculating which of the Bond actors came physically closest to Fleming's vision.

Physique-wise, I tend to think GE-era Brosnan and Timothy Dalton are probably closest to Fleming's Bond.

At 6'3" and around 175 lbs., I'm close, just taller, thinner, and balder.

Now I'm envisioning PB while swimming in GE and even TD in a wetsuit and with TD in particular I can't help how slight his frame was, considering that DC's 3-hour daily regimen for CR has set the new standard for the ideal Bond physique.

I think the bulking up was just part of the shock-and-awe strategy of the reboot in face of the opposition building up against Craig at the time, am I not right?

When he was first announced as Bond at the press conference - the infamous affair when he wore a life jacket ;% and had long hair - he didn't seem at all bulky so I'm sure you're right.

Re Brosnan - I read, In the Making of TND book - that he was unhappy with how he looked in GE so put on 10lbs or so of muscle before filming TND. You can see he's much bulkier in the street shower scene in Vietnam with Wai Lin.

I think you are right, and it was to offset the infamous skinny hippie Press conference where he seemed inconsequential. Mostly though it is to compensate for lack of height.

I recall reading somewhere that Connery was around 190 lbs for DN. Definately looked his "leanest" for DN. For TB Connery appears to be heavier (more muscle mass actually) but still trim and very fit. By YOLT it's apparent even in his face that he has put on a few pounds and is getting a bit soft. DAF.....the spare tire around his waist, uncropped brows and bad hairpiece made him look 10 years older than his real age at the time. Ironically, in films made a few years later like "A Bridge Too Far" and "Cuba" he looks much leaner and fit and looks like he could have slipped the Tux back on and been a great "older" Bond.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think Connery looked better in NSNA than he did in DAF.

Oh yeah, he was definitely healthier, but he had a 'darker' look to him in DAF. Both looks were good to me.

Last time DAF was on TV i couldn't stop staring at Connery's massive eyebrows and just how doughy and un-Bond-like he was throughout the film.
