MI4 bandwagonning on Bond

Mindful of all the Bond copying Bourne comments the Craig/Bond films got - and still get - anybody catch the irony in Jeremy Renner, a Craig look-alike if there ever was one, cast in the new MI film and reportedly being groomed to take over the MI franchise? (They likely did it to snatch Renner before the Bourne continuation did!) Would this have ever, ever happened had not Craig been cast/been successful as Bond? Here's hoping they give him some halfway decent material ala Craig/Bond too, haven't been impressed with the Cruise films at all.

The MI film series has always been nothing but Bond rip offs so it looks like their just updating the plagiarism. Also if it is true Renner's character is replacing Cruise, I'd actually be interested in future MI films.
Other than the fact they are about spies, there aren't too many similarities between Bond and the MI films, so calling them a Bond 'rip-off' is a bit of a stretch. The central characters are completely different and the worlds that they inhabit are also very different. It's like comparing Alien to Star Wars because they are both set in Space. Nothing new under the sun and all that.
I quite like the MI films and think that Tom Cruise is a good Ethan Hunt so I wouldn't like to see him replaced tbh.
Ethan Hunt may not work in the same circumstances as Bond but he's suppose to be "a Bond" of sorts. The TV series was a team effort while the film series, sans the last film to a degree, was focused on one man. I wouldn't care that much if I enjoyed Tom Cruise though. Renner isn't going to be a new Ethan BTW, he's suppose to be a character named Brandt.
Oh right, so they are heading for a new spin on things. That could be interesting
