Tom Cruise! I hate him...would love to see him as a Bond Villain, doing his own stunts, pontificating about scientology and then getting wiped out...would be the only context in which I'd watch him in a movie :))

    :)) :)) :)) :))

I think I am one of the few who don't hate him, but that said... he's great at playing the villain! No way anyway, he'd be the star of the movie instead of Bond, so :)) But, in terms of good villains I think he's a great choice :))
"Are we on coms?" (if you don't know where this is from... you've missed some really good stuff! :D)

Christopher Lloyd could be good - I still think of him as 'Doc' from BTTF or Fester from TAF. Ecentric enough though, kind of like a mad Robin Williams.

Well he'll always be Doc Brown in my eyes. BTTF is the staple of my childhood. :D

Regarding the talk of Elektra King, I thought she was a rather stupid character in a film driven by flaccid emotion. What was her motivation ? The oil and how it was her legacy. I thought it was all pretty tired, especially when the explosions over whelmed everything else in the film.

Really, there hasn't been an interesting villian in a Bond film in a really long time. After Auric Goldfinger, it's slim pickins'. Sanchez was really good but he wasn't that interesting. Le Chiffre was fairly good but Casino Royale made up as too much of a business man and not the deadly opponent Bond faced in the novel.

I think there have been a few - though not many - "interesting" villains since Goldfinger:

Scaramanga I felt was quite an attention-grabbing character - despite the rather weak overall film. Smart, cultured and polite but also deadly and self-obsessive. Very much a darker version of Bond.

Sanchez I thought was a fantastic character. Polite, exotic and charming on the one hand and on the other paranoid and sinister. Kind of like a snake. However he could have (maybe) had a slightly bigger scheme.

Trevelyan I thought was interesting in that he was a former ally of Bond - that had never happened in a Bond film before.

Carver's media baron I thought was pretty enjoyable.

Elecktra - if a little melodramatic - was interesting to me as she was one of the few who used her beauty to really get under Bond's skin. I also liked the way her role in the wider scheme wasn't immediately clear.

Gustav was like an evil version Hugh Grant (if there is any such thing) but still quite enjoyably OTT IMO - though not particularly "interesting".

    Le-Chiffe was ok

    Dominic Green was a joke!

Jesus, Gustav Graves ??? C'mon bain, you have to be joking. He acted like a petulant 15 year old and then to top it all off, he wore a nintendo power glove complete with a robocop suit. I'll give you Scaramanga and Carver, especially the former. However, both villians were let down by ineptitude from the writing. Scaramanga was a great charismatic presence in The Man With The Golden Gun but he's given almost nothing to do. Carver just popped in and out of Tomorrow Never Dies, flopping around in the midst of explosions in a half baked plot. Too great actors who were pretty much wasted.

And you know who I really think is the best villian to appear since Auric Goldfinger ? General Ourmunov, I am dead serious. I have no idea why they didn't make him the main villian in Goldeneye, he was a powerful presence on screen and cold as ice. THAT is a man who you'd think people would look up to. Alec Trevelyan was flat. They gave him a Blofeld-esque army to bark orders at but he didn't seem like someone who would be top dog in an underground orginization. Even Valetin Zukovsky, at least in his initial apperance, seemed like a person who would ruthless enough to hatch a major scheme.

I'd love to that closeted, midget, sciencetologist, sociopathic, moron get blown to bits. But anyway, back on topic... :))

I never said Gustav was "interesting". I meant that he was - sometimes at least - a fun character due to his over-the-top nature and English snobbiness. As I said he was like an evil, camp Hugh Grant. I love the bit the in the gentleman's club when he's winning and says to Bond "2-0, do you want to continue?" :)) .

I felt that, seeing as I'd gone through all the other Pierce Brosnan villains, I should mention graves but I certainly don't think he's "interesting" - more enjoyably camp.

I'm not sure about the most interesting villain out of all of them but I do agree that he had an excellent screen presence in the film.

What we can find "interesting" is all very subjective anyway.

I can't articulate what I feel about him very well but I found him interesting. He had no real fetish or interesting mania but the way he acted spoke volumes. I guess the best way I can put it is that he was the ulimate soldier which made him seem like mad man. Like I said before, I really wish he was the main bad guy in GE.

I can take Donald Pleasance's Blofeld as fun camp but Graves was just whiny IMO.

Another person I haven't seen mentioned is Jeremy Irons. A little old. Maybe another "head of Quantum" material?

I secound. I said this before but I want The Head of Quantum to be totally detached from the real world. An isolated mad man playing god with the world.

Watched the Three Musketeers on tv yesterday - Tim Curry was an excellent villian, really hamming it up and very much like Rickman aka Prince of Theives. I thought he could play a Bond villian or at least the middleman villian very well indeed...
