What's your favourite US TV show

mrbain007mrbain007 Posts: 393MI6 Agent
Having just finished the entire series of The Sopranos (often considered one of the best US shows) I was wondering what other people regard as The Best show to come out of the states.

I liked the sopranos very much and artistically its superb. However my personal favourite is 24. Its an extremely silly show in places but no other show has given me a buzz quite like it. At its best its suspensful, brilliantly written and tense - like having an injection of adrenaline but without the needle. Even at its worst it is entertaining.

I also really enjoy Dexter. For some reason Michael C. Hall's charismatic serial killer anti-hero reminds me of Norman Bates, despite not being quite as "mad".

For some reason I could never get into shows like Lost or The Wire, however I understand why they are so critically acclaimed (particularly the latter).

Within the past few years I watched 24 and Lost.

While I was growing up and in school two shows I remember watching were The Cosby Show and a couple years later Home Improvement.

Now that all these shows have gone off the air I watch re-runs of old shows. Those shows include, Home Improvement, Roseanne, Cheers and the spin-off of Cheers, Frasier.

Frasier - Very clever and very funny

    Friends - yep, well I am a girl :))

    Grey's Anatomy - well, ditto....

StarTrek TNG - for the geek in me....

There are quite a few others - 24, Lost, but I don't really want to admit to watching so much TV :))

All-time best will require a lot of thought...I'd put M*A*S*H right at the top. The recent remake of Battlestar Galactica was brilliant. The Carol Burnett Show. Two Star Treks---the original and TNG ;) B-)

Currently? I'd have to go with AMC's The Walking Dead :o And USA's Burn Notice B-)

Modern Family is hilarious and has incredibly distinctive characters that parody modern society in a rather gentle way.

I am a huge R&S fan. "Man's Best Friend" was my favorite episode though it wasn't publicly availiable for like 11 years unless you were lucky enough to find a bootleg VHS.

Strangers With Candy is another fave of mine. A hilarous parody of self-centred teen dramas. Stephen Colbert was one of the main characters.

True Blood and Mad Men - other stuff has been recommended to me like 30 Rock, which I find mildly amusing, but not wonderful. I'm lost now though since these two series are over for now :#

All Star Trek series except for Enterprise
    JAG
    NCIS
    The OC
    The Practice

That's it for now. A friend has strongly recommended Big Bang Theory. I saw the last 10 minutes of an episode today, and I really enjoyed that. Maybe I'll start getting into it later.

    - Dog The Bounty Hunter
    - Friends
    - Married With Children
    - Desperate Housewives
    - That 70s Show (mainly because I love Mila Kunis!)
What counts is what the heroine provokes, or rather what she represents. She is the one, or rather the love or fear she inspires in the hero , or else the concern he feels for her, who makes him act the way he does.

Star Trek - Original series - the only true Trek
    Batman - Adam West
The Outer Limits - the original, not the crummy remake
The Night Stalker - Darren McGavin - not the crummy remake
Pawn Stars - The only "reality" show I watch with regularity

There are countless others that I love, but these will do for now.

I was going to say NCIS - really enjoy that - now Ziva played by Cote de Pablo would make a good Bond girl....

and The Practice - well I would, being a spin off Grey's Anatomy - but I didn't want to admit to watching so much telly :)) ;%

This show was MY LIFE in its initial '66-'68 run B-) I was utterly oblivious to the camp. And even now catching a rerun (or watching the DVD of the feature film) puts a huge smile on my face.

I watched 24 from season 1 and it had its ups and downs, but it will always be my favorite. Lost was good until the series finale, then I regretted watching that series.

A few of my other favorites:
    NCIS
    The Office
    Chuck
    Hell's Kitchen
    30Rock

Ha! I never thought of that! Of course she would. And she'd be just as capable of killing people as Bond.

MI6 and Mossad working together ... hmm, there's a thought.

Ok, then I can add Star Blazers to this list. I watched it in Texas everyday after school when I was twelve. It was the most exciting show ever. (at the time) But it was definitely not American ;)

I'm loving the new version of Nikita with Maggie Q. Fringe has improved a lot since its first season. There's a lot of great stuff about now, Dexter, Mad Men, Justified, Burn Notice/ I was gutted whe the existential cop show Life got cancelled. All time faves have to be Buffy and Twin Peaks. Wiseguy was great too.
