Philip Kerr - potential Bond novelist?

I have been reading Kerr's Berlin Noir series featuring Bernie Gunter as the detective. They are hard boilded noir detective stories set in nazi Germany. It strikes me how good I could be writing Bond. He is more humorous than Flemming, but the rest is there. He has good plots, describes people and places well, it is exiting and tense. In "If the dead rise not" Bernie has a tense backgammon game against an american gangster - pure Flemming! He also employs a supressed revolver - the only type of revolver capable of being silenced. I'm really looking forward to Deaver's book (I have pre-ordered on Amazon) but I think Kerr should be used later. Comments?

I'd certainly like tom see him give it a go. I've been a fan of Kerr (even his non-Gunther) novels for well over a decade now, and he's a great storyteller.
