Seems dumb to write out the main character, when they could just recast the role.

Not that I would want Craig out of the role, but talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Rooney Mara is keen to appear in the sequel of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but does not know if there are plans to begin shooting The Girl Who Played with Fire. She shot down rumours claiming the sequel would be made without Daniel Craig, "No, that's not a possibility. That won't happen. I don't know who started the rumour, but that's not true."

Come on. We know who started that rumour.

Sony. Positioning the person they are negotiating with. :)) plus a bit of media noise at the same time. :D

As much as I want the Craig-Mara-Fincher trifecta to return, I can sacrifice the director because that means the on-screen events don't have to noticeably decline even if they are approached by another director's mind. The stars are the part I am most worried about because it would be an instantly noticeable decline.

I hope Mara is right and they get a deal soon. Its feeling like its been a long time since TGwtDT. I want more of that world, fast.

Overall they'd get more cash with Craig back I guess, they can sell it as a trilogy more. Otherwise it gets a bit like the Tom Clancy thing with Ford/Baldwin/Affleck. But didn't they sort out the cash beforehand?

This may be of interest. There is a new Jack Ryan film due for release at the end of this year starring Chris Pine. Kevin Costner is CIA veteran William Harper, Kenneth Branagh directs and also plays the villainous Russian oligarch Viktor Cherevin.

It appears that e-mails from the Sony hack reveal they are planning to release The Girl Who Played with Fire (2016) and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2017). Sony also appear to be negotiating for the rights to the fourth book coming out. There are no details on Daniel Craig or Rooney Mara returning.

I think it would be a real shame if Craig and Mara were not cast again...they had great chemistry and it's such a great trilogy (interesting to see what the 4th book is like...although I heard it's going to be a bitter battle to see it published)

A sequel to late Swedish author Stieg Larsson's bestselling Millenium crime trilogy will go on sale in at least 35 countries from August, the book's publishers said on Tuesday. That Which Does Not Kill was completed in November by David Lagercrantz, He stands in for Larsson, who died of a heart attack in 2004. The book will continue the story of the troubled but resourceful heroine Lisbeth Salander.
