This is more suited for the Literary forum, so I'm moving it. The subject itself is also being covered in the "Project X" topic, but if people keep the discussion on the title--Carte Blanche (yawn)--there's no reason this can't stay open.
Carte Blanche doesn't strike me as a fantastic title, but I'll wait until I've read the novel before judging it. The info in the article suggests that it might be interesting in terms of the theme of "what is acceptable in security matters ... giving an agent carte blanche on a mission comes with an enormous amount of trust and constantly tests both personal and professional judgement." I look forward to the new novel - I hope it proves better than the last official effort.

I still think it's a Bland Title, But can see it's a re-working of a "licence to kill" as Bond has " Carte Blanche " To do whatever is required, Look forward to reading it

I think Carte Blanche is a reasonably good title. But I think the title and the cover doesn't spell suspence novel or Bond novel. I hope that won't hurt the sales. Perhaps it's a good thing that "Jeffery Deaver" is in larger letters than "James Bond"?

Devil May Care was a great title, but less than spectacular book, so maybe it means the law of averages is at work here!
The look of the book is not too outstanding either IMO. I'm afraid it will be mistaken as one of those run-of-the-mill suspense novel that hits the stands every five minutes after the hour. Don't get me wrong - I still intend to read it at some point.

Hope this doesn't predict the quality of the novel. Seems like the title would go better with Devil May Care, with the same amount of thought and imagination respectively given

Does anybody know whether there are likely to be any "special" editions of Carte Blanche when it is released in May? Something along the lines of the "red box" version of Devil May Care, perhaps?
I asked at my local bookshop a couple of weeks ago. They didn't know for sure, but suspected that a version - possibly signed by a JB actor - might appear for about £1,000. They also seemed to think that something like that was more likely to end up with one of the "chain" bookshops, such as Waterstones, rather than a local independent book seller.
Waterstones were unable to tell me anything at all about any likely special editions of this book when I called in this afternoon, so I just wondered whether anyone on here, who might have access to such information, might know?

I see Hatchards are taking pre-orders for a limited edition slipcase and signed hardback edition of Carte Blanche - cost is £100 mind - then postage is on top !!
I've pre-ordered a copy of the Hatchard's edition. That's going to have to do it for me. No way am I going to be able to afford this £1000 edition (which I'm starting to hear might be for real).
I have a good feeling about CB. It's like the new Planet of the Apes movie: it cannot possibly be worse than the Tim Burton film -- CB cannot possibly be worse than DMC!!

But I think it will be a solid Bond novel as well, one in which the character is done internally right. We have seen a lot of Bond covers that are internally careless and internally wrong -- in books as well as in films. Deaver is never careless. His observations on the character of Bond are the most astute I've read. He may update a few external details of Bond's world, but internally, I think he will nail the character on the page as surely as Connery did on film.
