Do you think Michael Caine could have played Bond back in the day? If not Bond, then a role in a Bond film?

It's difficult to think of Michael Caine outside of the working class spy role that he played in the Harry Palmer films, so I wouldn't think of him as a Bond. However, I think he could have made an interesting character as another double-o who could have humorous repartee with Bond. That would have been fun, to see Caine and Connery as fellow spies.

Caine always sounded gay when he tried an upperclass voice (Zulu for example), and I feel he would have over-cooked it if he'd been Bond. The Harry Palmer films are a fine series for him to have plied his trade and a worthy alternative to Bond, though obviously not so successful. I can't see him as Bond, no.

Had the Bill Tanner of the books been a regular in the Connery flicks, Caine would have been a good fit.

Imo Cain is totally overrated and Iam so glad he was never in the Bond films.
