Kill Blofeld off to begin with to close the Tracy saga and Bond fight the Spangled Mob. It would've been a million times better than the campfest we got.

Couldn't agree more. This is how the opening sequence should've been. That way, the true fans will be satisfied that the Bond/Blofield/Tracy storyline has been tied up, albeit briefly, and the general public would be plaeased because they'll rather see Connery in a more lighthearted film which, to the true fans delight, follows close to the book.

I don't know about that, killing Blofeld in the opening sequence would have been somewhat anticlimactic. I wasn't too impressed with the Spang bros in the book. A gangster in a cowboy outfit would have seemed like nothing compared to the evil genius of Blofeld. I don't disagree with having Blofeld as the main villain in DAF, just should have been done better.
