Brosnans irish accent

Its very apparent in the hospital scene with M in DAD. Especially when he says "partner" and "father".
Nothing negative about that, just an observation.

When I got Lois Maxwell to speak at my school as a little fella, she said that Connery's Scottish accent was so strong that they would limit shots to one or two lines at a time because anything beyond that would slip back into his strong brogue.

In LTK, I think at the scene when, Bond says " Things where about to turn Nasty " I think he sounds very Northern.

    yes, indeed he is

He is Welsh - but he does sound very northern (Yorkshire in particular) in that scene, and throughout the two films on occasion.

Brosnan couldn't put on an irish accent if he trained for it.
However, I think he usually tries to sound a bit american, for example his "what?" when Natalya requests euphemisms for bottom in the train in GE.

Sorry Daltonfan1, Anyone who thinks Brosnan can't do an Irish Accent,Havent heard him when he visits The Place. I watched him on TV once when he was picking up an award and he sounded like something out of one of those old 50's movies, the only thing missing was a "begorrah", a clay pipe & a Pint of the Black stuff. He's an Actor after all, "Play to the audiance,Dear Boy " :))

He does (occasionally) have a bit of an American twang to his voice. I've seen him in interviews where he pronounces words with a bit of an accent

    (e.g. "on" becomes "aahn")

In Bond it didn't sound quite so strong though maybe came up occasionally

Brosnan's doesn't know what the hell he is. His Irish is all a bit " Ah B'jesus!", his American is well off the mark and his English is accented in very odd places. "Mid-Atlantic" is the term best used for him.

I know someone who interviewed him a couple of years ago at a film festival and he said he was amazed by just how strange Brosnan's Irish accent really is. As others have suggested here, I think Brosnan's natural accent is quite Irish, but he intentionally 'softens' it when appearing on U.S. TV in particular so that he can encourage non-Irish roles. He's not alone in this. I've heard Christian Bale sounding decidedly quite American.

Timmy Dalton I believe left Wales at an early age and grew up mainly in Derbyshire, near Manchester. Which makes his slight lapses into a Valleys accent all the more stranger....when he says "She'll call you back" in the TLD PTS, for example....

Brosnan spent much of his teenage years in England and has spent most of his life in the USA, and his accent reflects that. Incidentally, my Dad was born and raised in County Wexford, has lived in England and worked in Norway for years and has known people from all over the globe, and his accent sounds surprisingly like Pierce's.

This thread reminds of one of Brosnan's lines in Mrs. Doubtfire.

    To the effect of:

"Which part of England did you say you were from? Your acccent's a bit muddled..."

That would explain Dalton's slip into northern in both his films. "Things were about to turn nasty..." Straight out of Corrie! :))

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the fantastic Job George Lazenby did on copying George Baker's Accent for OHMSS, It was so convincing you'd think it was Dubbed. :))

I have a sense that Dalton tried to Northernise his accent because the Welsh sounded a bit naff, so he went that way instead...

Brosnan has a sort of James Mason type of Irishness, not Shane McGowan...

That must be an unusual type of irishness, considering James Mason was english.

Okay, always thought Mason was Irish, guess it's cos of that Carol Reed thriller he did in which he played an Irish gunman on the run.

Brosnan's accent is a peculiar mix as one would expect from someone who spent his childhood in Ireland, his teens in London and then moved to the US.

My best friend moved from England to New Jersey ten years ago. His accent now is bizarre to say the least. American's think he's Australian and English think he's a dick... :))

I think his accent is put on depending in which Country the interview is.

I thought he was putting it on when I first heard his 'Irish' accent..... it's never been consistant, so it just sounds fake to me....

oh, and I'm talking about Pierce B - not your friend tsa :))

To be honest Lexi, they sound very much the same. Think Brosnan in his Irish, brougish contemplative interview best, with American twang...
