Do we assume AVTAK was set at the end of Bond's career?

as roger moore was 58 do we assume that he was about to enter the period Niven portrayed in casino royale, ie approaching retirement

AVTAK to me extremely felt like the end of Moore, even whilst watching it pretty much from San Francisco on. It felt totally like a last film of an era, like the end of Bond almost. Thats another thing I loved, though it is still sad watching Moore on it knowing it was his last appearance, older and also in a more serious performance.
1. Dalton 2. Moore 3. Connery 4. Lazenby 5. Craig 6. Brosnan
Idea for a new Bond marathon: watching the film in the order of the ageing actor, starting with George Lazenby, proceeding thru the Connery and Craig years, then Dalton, Moore and Brosnan, Connery again, and ending with Moore in AVTAK and then Niven in CR.
Roger Moore 1927-2017
We know that Bond's 1-16 are known as the 'classic' Bond films & in this sense I always think LTK feels like a good end to it all. Even though Dalton was much younger than Moore & only did 2 films -he brought such depth to the role that it seemed like a natural end. With LTK being a personal mission outside the MI service, he seemed to go through so much in this film & finally gets happiness with Pam. Now for those that say -"oh well Bond always gets the girl in the end & moves on"- somehow this did seem different. I've watched the end of LTK many times & the chemistry with Dalton & Lowell really pulls it off. You just sense that Bond really could pack it in & walk away from this long hard job..One moment from Dalton that suggests it - is when Sanchez has gone up in flames & Bond runs to cover. For a quiet moment Bond looks serious and warn out, as if relieved it's all over & Sanchez dead, knowing he did this for Felix and Della, but also a sense of 'is this all worth it' - it just seems like the final adventure for Bond. As if right that's done. 'i expect his feelings were also sad knowing this won't change anything for Felix & Della too. But the final scene with Bond & Pam could have been a natural ending to the whole series imo. I'm pleased the Bond series did continue - but have to say it was never the same after 1995. Brosnan did a great job with the films, but when you look at TND & DAD it's just so poor. I think a reboot with Craig was much needed. Just a shame that QOS was a poor follow-up to the excellent 'Casino Royale'. I just hope they get it right in Bond 23. This is a huge film for Daniel Craig & the Bond series, especially after what will be a 4-year gap.
