I still like the Banana Republic Harrington, I finally got to wear it out during a brief few days of sunshine we had recently and it's a great fit. Yes it's black but it's the closest one to the TF that I've been able to gt my hands on.

Looks great, but is already sold out. I blame hordes of Bond fans!

Not really liking that J Crew much. The pockets are wrong, no tab on the zip and not liking the tartan lining. Still haven't seen anything to top the Banana Republic version yet.
Lol, Tout. You keep peddling the Baracutas as if you're on commission! They're easily the best alternative I agree, but for this thread, not really a 'budget alternative'.
NB: I'm desperately trying to get hold of a G4 slim fit 42 chest - Quite difficult!
I posted this on another thread but here it is again:
I purchased the Eddie Bauer jacket. The blue is darker than it appears in the pictures and the logo on the chest is barely noticeable. The material is on the thicker side, so the collar stands up with no problem, but it's still soft. It kind of feels like a lightly waxed cotton. There are two strips of elastic waist (about 2.5 inches long) on either side of the jacket, but they are barely noticeable and can be covered up with "waist tabs" by a tailor. Overall, very happy with the purchase. Three cons: logo on the chest, the lining is patterned, but it is dark so you can barely see it and the "action back" is vented, but this really doesn't bother me and again is barely noticeable if you're not looking for it. One note: this is a U.S. company so a "large" is really an XL; the arms are very long. So size down.
Also, over on jamesbondlifestyle, David was showing an offwhite version of the TF jacket. This one isn't exactly the same (elastic cuffs and waist, which I really don't like) but it looks very interesting in the soapstone color. And it is on sale for $80
I disagree. While the pockets are right on the Banana Republic jacket, the collar is all wrong. I still think the J Crew is the closest budget alternative I've seen. And I've looked. A lot.
Last one, promise: an alternative to the Y3 jacket from Perry Ellis. I actually have a PE jacket and thing has been bomb proof. This one is similar but with the Y3 collar in black:

I'm getting confused: the Y3 is the spread collar black jacket he wear's in Haiti, correct? The harrington is the tab collar dark navy jacket he wears in Bolivia. So for me the Banana Republic version's collar is correct for the "harrington" style jacket (two button tab, same as the J Crew), although the TF version only had one button.
And I agree that the J Crew is a great find, but it is sold out, so I was trying to present other options
I saw that one a while ago jz007 but the zips and the whole jacket looks cheap.
I bought a Lyle & Scott harrington from Asos. It's advertised elsewhere at anything from £120-180. Asos were selling it for £80 and I had a 20% discount voucher from them. Ill try and find the link.
Bringing back a bit of an oldy. J Crew Factory is making a harrington style jacket for $88 that doesn't have the elastic waist or cuffs. Pretty simple but a good price.

Yikes! It odes look slim, but the logo and pre-distressing are a deal breaker for myself. Good try though!
Photos of the J Crew jacket. It's the closest I've found so far.

Hope it helps!
http://www.zappos.com/product/7917355/color/3 Definitely size down 1 size with these and the material is not nearly as shiny in real life.

Here's a black one on eBay. I'd probably ask for better, more detailed photos.
