Licence To Kill Or Licence Revoked?

remember reading that the movie would have been called 'licence revoked' in the us, but was soon changed to 'licence to kill', which apparantly damaged the movies reputation, would this really have made a difference? in my opinion no, as it is a great movie

I liked LTK as well, But would of prefered Licence Revoked as a title. :)

I would have liked the License Revoked title better. However, in my opinion, it would not have saved the movie.

Licensed Revoked would have been my choice for the title, but I don't think it had an impact on the film one way or the other. By the way, I thought the film was quite good.

I like the choice of Licence to Kill for some reason. When I heard Dalton say in an interview that the working title was Licence Revoked, I cringed a bit. I'm not quite sure why, maybe it's because it didn't seem very clever to me. Either way, it's a great movie and nothing can strip that away.

"Licence to Kill" (mind the two c's in licence, you Americans :D) sounds more appropriate to me. Bond has become a loose cannon and is dangerous - which isn't really stressed by the word 'revoked'.

The name was changed because of the corey feldman film licence to drive.

Licence Revoked sounds too much like Bond got one too many traffic tickets and now has to take a road safety course. Licence To Kill sounds much better for two reasons: it relates to the tone of the film, and it ties in with the whole "james bond licence to kill" tag line which appeared in many previous Bond movies.

This Gun for Hire might have been better than both. Not that it's a contender, I just made that up.

LTK isn't original, but LR yeah sounds like a parking ticket which is why it got dropped, others sniped that American's wouldn't know what revoked meant, but the theories contradict one another.

Then it'll have to be Bruce Springsteen singing the Bond theme instead of Gladys Knight :))

"Lizenz Zum Toten" is my favourite name for that movie.
Mainly because it's the german version of the Blu ray I own because you can't buy the bloody thing in the UK on that format as they never released it!!!

They haven't released the LTK Bluray in the UK? That's weird because they did in the US. Although it was more difficult to find compared the other ones for some reason.

Yea, along with 'golden gun' there the ones that can't be got on blu ray in uk packaging. Are available in France and Germany though. That's before we even talk about the 11 or so they never released full stop!

I've never really given much thught to this title. Given that Bond does have his Licence revoked, that may be a more apt title. Also as Bond spend the majority of the film without his 'Licence to Kill' it seems strange to name the film that.
