Found a great Casino Royale Train scene shirt alternative at Charles Thyrwhitt: Take a look at the name of the shirt "Bondfield"

They currently have a sale on shirts so what was 120 GBP is now down to 39.95 GBP

http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/men's-shirts/Bondfield-white-satin-stripe-tailored-fit-Black-Label-shirt?q=gbpdefault||BK042WHT|||||491,||||||||&page=3

Mine arrived 2 weeks ago and I can highly recommend this - in fact thinking of ordering some more.

Quality of Charles Thyrwhitt shirts are fantastic.

Just wanted to share...

    Great find.

Although it looks more like the one he wears when they're both in the hotel bathroom in Montenegro, the 'dinner jacket' discussion. I think the train shirt looks more like a Brioni which is pure white with finer lines down it.

Shame it doesn't come in a light blue.

    ?:)

I'm not sure what you're judging that on, but they are not fantastic. CT along with Lewin are the bottom-of-the-line basic shirts. I certainly would not spend £40 on them. They are invariably on sale and can usually be had for around £25 per shirt.

They have plastic buttons, stiff collars, so-so fabrics and the collar points often curl which is unsightly. Save your money and buy shirts from somewhere else. They are not comparable to T&A or any other high-end shirtmaker—on Jermyn Street or in Italy. They certainly are not worth their RRP or even £40, IMO. They're not a bad buy if you can only spend £25-or-so on a shirt, but certainly not worth much more. Fantastic? No.

    Just a little caveat.

This CT shirt would make an excellent budget alternative to the blue "Montenegro arrival" shirt: http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/men%27s-shirts/men%27s-formal-shirts/Lovell-blue-end--on--end-with-pink-and-green-stripe-tailored-fit-shirt?q=gbpdefault||FD023BLP|||||1861,341,||||||||&ppp=32

What am I judging it on?? Owning one first of all. Being someone who wears a shirt every single working day and someone who knows the difference between a Brioni shirt and a Charles Thywhitt shirt.

Of course they do not compare to T&A shirts, they are one fourth of the price. I never compared it to a high end shirt maker.

IYHO they may not be worth 40 pounds to you, IMO they are. Agreed in that I would never pay the original retail price on them.

Fantastic quality for the price and a very good looking shirt. All I wanted to do was share the info.

CT shirts are a reasonable alternative. They ALL come with brass collar stiffeners (T&A's are plastic) - you get mother of pearl buttons on the black label and sea island shirts. I haven't had the issue with the collar curling, but they are without question easier to iron than T&A collars, which often creates unsightly wrinkles (I know Asp9mm had the same issue). Like B_J_B said, they're not a $250 shirt but they are of pretty solid quality.

So you have the collar wrinkle too, eh and I thought I was the only one.
Away at Boot Camp, won't be back until April the earliest.

Why do you think no-one else provides brass collar stiffeners with their shirts (honest question)? I read about two guys whose brass collar stiffeners poked holes in their shirt collar, although I have never experienced this. Hell, in my Barba shirts I don't even use collar stays.

Also, to non-EU customers they no longer deduct VAT on purchases.

What do you guys think of these?:

The last one is Tom Ford. The other two are Borrelli.

Nothing wrong with CT shirts, sorry but I have been wearing CT shirts for a while after wearing all sorts of other brands over the years and they are not bottom of the line WHATSOEVER. I would say nicely in the middle of the line, not the best no but certainly not the worst. I have a mix of brands currently and the CT shirts have work very well!

Interesting thread and some nice pics Mac....

Have to agree with nms on this one....I have a mix of shirts I like/love/ fit/feel and CT has always been one of them.

Too right they are not the top of the range....I sadly agree that of all my shirts (both business and casual) my Tom fords are my absolute favorite - ESP since I've lost weight and can finally feel comfortable in their sleek cut.

All that said I'm pleased the way this honest debate which occasionally naturally drifts into the distasteful and ugly alleyway of bank balances, has maintained it's passion and orderlyness.

Oh that were true on all threads!!

Finally, grateful to BJB for the initial find....I've put my order in for 2 already...

haha, I've turned green a few times but that's another story.

I find off the rack shirts don't fit me if I button the collar, the rest of the shirt is huge.

16.5 collar and 42" chest means the shirts are usually massive around the sides of my body.

I can get a shirt made for £99 but I don't need to wear a shirt & tie for work anyway.

Slim fit shirts don't even allow for the modern day shape of men who have a small waist and wider upper body unfortunately, unless you keep the collar unbuttoned.

The shirt on the train actually had a blue or grey pinstripe on top of the self stripe. But the CT shirt still has a similar effect and is very nice. Whilst the shirts are the top quality, they're better than most of what can be found in the US at an equivalent price. I find the quality to be slightly above Brooks Brothers, and you can get far nicer patterns and styles. BB has great button-down sport shirts (way too American for Bond) but terrible formal shirts.

I like quality shirts and have been finding Mastai Ferretti shirts to be great quality, decent collars, and slim fitting (I'm 15 3/4" x 40" x 32" waist) and often on sale online, Yoox, styleforum.net etc. I've bought abut 12 over the last few months and would use them as the template for any made to measure.

Looking good Mac. Styleforum approved. ;)

I bought one at H&M last year, exact same pattern, the stripes were not too wide, not too small. About 50$

I'm not a fan of anything from CT. There shirts are junk. Fused collars and cuffs, plastic or really thin MOP buttons, and cheap cloth. Turnbull shirts are cut way too full, and if you get there MTM (they don't offer true bespoke anymore) it is hit and miss with the fit. If you want the best shirt in England, go here.

Incidently, Foster made all of Roger Moore's shirts. He is also one of the few shirt makers that still do actual fittings.

Mmmm can't say I agree with you there I am afraid and some other rather discerning members above like CT too. I refer you to my above post as to my own reasons why.

Everyone is entitled to there opinion. I just don't like fused collars (or the shape and depth of there collars) and cuffs, or waffer thin buttons. There turnback cuffs are too deep as well. I prefer to go bespoke for these reasons and others.

Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion and I respect yours - I was just offering my opinion in response to your post. Bottom line it is down to the individual to decide the value/quality of the shirt and make their own assessment. My only issue was the term "junk" which is, quite frankly, a little unfair. CT shirts are not the best I agree but no where near being junk either. That's like saying Omega watches are junk and Rolex are quality - yes Rolex are better but Omega are pretty darn good too! I like both.

    Just my opinion and thoughts...
