From what I've read, Mr. White and all plot lines surrounding him aren't returning. There was a bit of lashing out from fans who didn't want Bond to be stuck in continuous sequels, which is out of tradition for the series. The ending that would have questioned the survival of Mr. White and the organization was left out because they felt that to be fair to the series and the next director, there shouldn't be scenes that force a sequel as Casino Royale pushed onto Quantum of Solace. Thus, they purposefully planned to NOT continue the Mr. White plot by not showing him anymore to the theatre audiences and leaving only the impression that Bond got closure in Quantum of Solace.

But that of course is my interpretation from things I have read since Quantum of Solace released.

That apparently was blown out of proportion, Jespersen backed off those comments almost the next day (which didn't get as widely reported as he wasn't drunk at the time and didn't use expletives).

As to fan backlash, if EON cared about that Brosnan would still be Bond. 8-)

At first reading I thought it was about J white back to do another theme. :))

Yeah, I doubt professional relationships can get ruined that easily. They would work together if need, no doubt. And about backlash: it is probably hard to turn a decision as big as Bond around without looking like idiots. And I, along with many, think the reboot is fantastic even if I still would have enjoyed more from Brosnan.

I would think if this is true, then there would be about 90% approval from fans and over that for critics. Check the ratings and box office pal, this one earned lots of love.

Consider that the minority must be vocal usually in order to be heard in the majority...

Could I ask where you get your indepth statistics from Mr Beech, or is this Just your Opinion. :))
as for Boxoffice, I'll try this Once again, QOS cost over $230Mil to make. So to make its money Back or bring in a very small profit it would of needed to make, around $690 mil. Which it didn't. :D
Thats why the budget for Bond 23 has been slashed back to around half of what was spent on QOS, If it was so successful why not keep the budget the same to keep up the great standard of script, camerawork, editing etc.
And of course History has shown us that the Majority is always right. :)) hasn't it ? :v
One thing I've learnt on ajb007 is that we all have different opinions on all the Bond films and there's very little chance of any of us changing anothers opinion. So you love it, I hate it, Dosen't make either of us a bad person :))
But in keeping with your view that the majority is always right an No form of Other opinion should be voiced, I'll keep my Posts in line with your views from now on. :)), well I might, occasionaly give a different opinion. :)) But I'm sure you'll set me straight. :D

It is hard to see where the money went for QoS. It doesn't seem too opulent.

TP, why did it have to make so much more money to make a profit? How does that work out?

Anyone who's selfemployed or running a business works to a basic rule, This is an accepted Formula.
every £ spent needs to make £3 back .
One £ to cover what your cost of making the product or service,
One £ to pay the taxman, Government etc
One £ to pay back any shareholders or investors, and YOUR profit,
If your lucky your movie or Product will for every £ spent bring back £5 or more. (Some service industries can make up to £10 back for every £1 spent.)

Even one of the supposedly badly Performing Bonds OHMSS, made roughly $8 back for every $ spent.
Hence the slashing of the Budget for Bond 23 to around $110 -130 mil, so they only have to make around
    $390- 400mil to claim a Huge success.

That's why Rom Coms and Horror films are so popular with film companies as they are normally cheap ( for a movie) mabey around $30-35 mil so It only has to make around the $100 mil mark to be successful and if lucky it can make a huge fortune. Just look at the likes of Paranormal activity or Blair witch project all made for next to nothing but all big hits. The latest seems to be Apollo 18.

Many people forget that a film does not just have to cover it's cost but also the advertising and marketing worldwide. So it better bring more money in than just barely the production cost.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
Very good point Rainier Wolfcastle, so to QOS budget you could add about another $40-50 mil for worldwide ads and tv spots etc.

Hollywood and the film industry have an interesting reputation for how they do their math and accounting. There have been lawsuits by actors, producers, etc regarding film profits. It's always interesting to see was actually written off for tax purposes, etc that effects net profits. Very grey and complicated stuff.

    QoS took $590 at the box office ALONE....then add syndication rights...Cd's...DVD's...Blurays...posters...books...toys...etc, etc, etc...and then factor in the sponsorship money...I think we can take it that QoS made a healthy profit ;) -{

Looks like you may need that same phonebox after all :))

As an aside...QoS took more money in North America than CR did !

While QOS may have been a box office "success" it probably was not the monster hit follow-up to CR that EON probably hoped for....which could be a good thing. A good thing in that maybe EON is more motivated to get it "right" with Bond 23 before they use up all the good will they earned with CR and not waste Craig's tenure as Bond with mediocre scripts, etc. It will be very interesting to see if they can really deliver this time around. I like the "grittiness" more realistic level of violence in the Craig films but I think they need to bring back some of the charactor's "quirks" that make Bond unique.
