Niv would have made a great Bond in his day but I think he was too old by the time the seris began. I think th same applies to Gregory Peck, he would have done a great job but th series came a bit too lat for him.
I think James Purefoy would be a good candidate for the next bond but Tom Hardy is surely in the driving seat to replace Craig.
Tom Hardy is superb, but at the risk of drawing flak he is even shorter than DC.

No it wasn't actually...I can't remember who did the interview with him..but he was VERY strange...you would have thought he had taken something before the interview...difficult to explain...just very weird...it was just after Bronson had come out...and he spoke about his wild days...drinking, drugs etc.

I think he may have even been tested, but along with every other plausible actor in age range...I agree though, he might have been very good indeed.How old is he now?

Zaphod, interesting, didn't know he'd been tested for the part. He was born in June of 82 which makes him 39 at this time.

His portrayal of Eomer in LOR:TTT and ROTK was also very good and he did an excellent job as William Cooper in RED. As to the Judge Dredd thing, I have a hard time believing it could be worse then Stallone's portrayal, but we shall see once the film is released. I actually think he would make a good Bond. He can obviously pull of the dark side and it would be interesting to see how he played the lighter more sarcastic side of the Bond character. Based on his Star Trek performance I think he would have been good at this too.

Karl Urban isn't a bad suggestion, but if DC doesn't step down after #23 he will be too old. Michael Fassbender is the best candidate right now IMO. Henry Cavill is Superman now, but Brandon Routh can tell you this isn't a guarante of stardom. He is perhaps too .....pretty, I guess. But from what I have read, Cavill did an amazing screen test for Bond in 2006.
I have a suggestion for a future James Bond that will surprise and not unlikely anger some, but here it is:

Yes, the guy in Kick-Ass! Think of this:
- He is British
- He is 6 feet tall
- He is born in 1990, so by the time Craig retires he'll be approx 30 years old
- He is a good actor
- He has allready proved he can do action and if you have seen Kick-Ass 2, he can bulk up
He can look like this:
You can find pictures of him where he looks very un-Bondian too, but you could do that with Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Daniel Craig too.

I remember reading an article once I think in Commander.Net where the author put an alternative Bond actor for each decade. Have never been able to find it again but I think it went:
1960's - Laurence Harvey
1970's - Ian Ogilvy
1980's - Lewis Collins
1990's - James Purefoy
2000's - not sure about this but I think it was Clive Owen
Interesting selection. I always found Harvey a bit cold as an actor and Ogilvy was too lightweight but the other 3 I would definitely agree with.
I think Lewis Collins would have made a great Bond. I'm a big fan of The Professionals (thus the user name) but Collins also proved his action chops in Who Dares Wins and Codename: Wild Geese.
James Purefoy was floated as a potential Bond on a number of occasions (don't know if he ever screen tested) and also a potential Simon Templar but didn't end up playing either one.
Clive Owen - nuff said.
Others not on this list:
Sam Neil - if Dalton hadn't accepted the role it should definitely have gone to Sam Neil. Watch him in a low budget movie called Hostage where he plays an MI6 assassin. When he is suited and booted he definitely looks like Bond.
Adrian Paul - looked in the past like a young Sean Connery. Proved he could handle to action stuff in Highlander.
For future James Bond's:
Michael Fassbinder would be top of my list. Has the looks, can bring the right level of sophistication (Inglorious Bastards) and is good in fight scenes (Haywire)
Henry Cavill - could he manage the hat trick and be Superman, Napolean Solo and Bond. Looking forward to seeing the Man from UNCLE. If Guy Ritchie can do as good a job with it as Sherlock Holmes it should be a great movie.
Adam Raynor - is the new Simon Templar. Looking forward to seeing the new Saint. Being Simon Templar usually means your name crops up for Bond.
Can't quite get my head around Tom Hardy as Bond. More of a Red Grant. One of the points made against Craig was that he doesn't look like an officer, more a Sargeant. In that case Hardy looks more like a bolshy private.
I hadn't thought about him as Bond until yesterday. frankly, I didn't even know he was British.
To me, Aaron Taylor Johnson is a younger, taller, dark haired and less puffy-lipped version of Tom Hardy. They look quite a bit alike!

About the women in the Empire poll, I have to agree. Emma Watson is talented, smart and beautiful, but she isn't the sexiest actress ever! I think Anna Hathaway, Christina Hendricks, Zoe Saldana and some others would have been more worthy winners.
