A STA-PREST Jean Alternative?

Mr BeechMr Beech Florida, USAPosts: 1,749MI6 Agent
I can't see a good look too much from their site, but I know that these originated as a response to the success of Levi's Sta-Prest line. Anyone aware of these and know if they are like the Levi's? They come in a cream color in several sizes...

These are the Merc "Winston Sta Trousers" http://www.merc.com/collection/men/Trousers-Shorts/product/Winston-Sta-Trouser

I know the pockets are different, but I guess the Sta thing may give them appeal?

EDIT: Just noticed in another thread that this link was given already by 007 and a half before.

Been searching, as well. Have even asked some online tailoring companies about possibly MAKING some of these, and having them tailored to my size.

Those are the cotton/poly blend, and though advertised as "straight legged" appear to taper down to the ankles slightly. I prefer a straight-leg, anyway.

I have some new with tags current version Levi's Sta-Prest 'Bleached Rock' colour if you're interested?

    33" waist / 32" leg & also 32" wast / 32" leg.

I also have Levi's 752 jeans new with tags in the 'Bleached Rock' colour 34" waist / 32" leg.

If you are interested I can email you photos rather than clogging up the ajb server.

Just saw the new Land's End chinos (got a catalog in the mail), and a regular chino just doesn't cut it. Between the Sta-Prest and the Ted Bakers, I haven't found any pants that fit either description, or both - which I would also purchase!!!

Keep up the good fight, Bondians!

    jz007,

I've offered you 2 alternatives in my post and also info previously about the Merc trousers.

How many more options do you want?

I think he's trying to find the pair that Daniel Craig actually wore :s

Honestly you try helping some people on here and they can't even say thanks for the ideas.

Yes, sadly this seems to be increasingly the case on this forum. The movie and the items were around some years ago now so finding the orginals is very difficult. Personally I would be thankfull to anyone on this forum who offers a decent alternative suggestion in view of the time lapse.

Banana Republic five-pocket chinos in cream and have your tailor do a permanent press in them. A similar cream chino with the press added is close as it gets.

Cubby, I thought the K-1 fit the description the best, but I do not own any Dockers pants, and am purely going by the LOOK of the pant and the description.

    Will do!!

I see there are silver birch 514s on eBay. I tried the 511s and they are far too tight for me even with a size up (in fact I have the Sand 306 Sta Prest Jeans and whilst comfortable standing up, siting down is tight around the thighs)

Not sure if 514s are less skinny?? Might give them a go a size up

I have some Levi 511s and they are too tight on me too. Nice looking jeans but one for the skinnier peeps amongst us.

My thoughts exactly, I went a size up but still to skinny for my liking. Was wondering if 514s worth a shot

514's are slim straight, but look more like a very slim opening bootcut. The 511 is your best bet, or some of the new "tapered" fit Levi's. Check out their website levi.com to see whats there.

The Exit is correct. When I was trying on jeans, the 511s were unbearable (in exact size) and the 514s were still too tight. I got 559s, because the 505s were not available in Tumbled Rigid.

Yes, please post pics when you get them!

    Found these on e-Bay, also.

I got a fall catalog from Brooks Brothers the other day and they show a 5 pocket that is a little darker than the birch Levi's and may be something that could work, but they are not up on their site yet.

I have some that are 32x30 if anyone is interested in that size. No tags but never worn - I need a 34 waist so they have been sitting doing nothing.

How did these turn out jz? Pics?
  • jz007jz007 Posts: 362MI6 Agent
Pretty nice, actually. I was expecting the lighter color to be whiter, they are more of a stone color. The khaki color are a little darker a color than I'd prefer, also.

They do look pretty nice, though! I plan on buying a pair of brown chukka boots I found at an Italian mall for 69Euro, and taking some pictures very soon.

Thanks jz. I see what you mean about the colors. The BR website pics look different.
  • jz007jz007 Posts: 362MI6 Agent
Yeah, the khaki is too dark, but the stone ones look better than I figured.

When I get the boots, I'll give the pants a pressing, and see how it looks.

Then it'll be Sunspel time! B-)

Thanks, Mr. Beech. In the photos they appear to taper a little. I'm having a pair of work pants tapered at our on-post uniform shop. If they do a good job, I MIGHT consider having these tapered. They're a tighter fit, but feel pretty nice (if a little thin), and definitely look the part.

    Hell yeah.

Yeah I was more interested in the khaki ones from the website pics. But thanks to your pics the stone ones are now on my must try on list. And I'm still on the lookout for some khaki-er sta prest alternatives.
