Making a Golden Gun, dims details and HELP!

Dear All, but specifically Dodgy_Spike / Danjaq_off and Quartermaster.

I am a massive bond fan, and whilst I would have been happy with an FE GG prop replica, they are pretty much sold out, and are not quite 100% to the film.

On this basis (and being heavily inspired by Quartermasters fine work), I have decided to build one of these golden guns from scratch.

First problem. No dimensions......

I have collected as many golden gun images as I can from the net, including screenshots from the Bluray, members prop / memorabilia posts and anything else google threw up.

I have scaled as many dims as I can from these, but have hit a ***** wall with details like the extending breach from the colibri, some of the en details (does anyone have a good image of the actual writing nib?)

The ciggie case is also a bit awkward. lots of side views, but im struggling to get the width, and details of the actual opening flap / cigarette compartment.

Basically, ive got as far as I can without some kind soul throwing me an olive branch :-(

I have seen blueprint plans posted (dodgy_spike / danjaq_off) and obviously Quartermasters handy work. These are the only true dimensions I have been able to find.

I entirely understand and respect the privacy surrounding such valued items, therefore I would not ask for anything as valuable as photocopies or prints etc, however, I am desperately seeking help.

Is there any chance someone could hand sketch the dimensions off the blueprints? (i.e. quickly re-draw the plans and plop some dimensions next to them).

Alternatively, some zoomed in photos of the blueprints would be good (i.e. not the whole thing, and not to scale). I only need to see the basic dimensions of the more detailed items. I would not request photos of each entire page, as the SD Studio logos etc, are what make these amazing pages such a collectors item.

Some not-to-scale photos of these would be more than sufficient to get me going on the right track. Private email would be fine if you dont want these in the open forums....

To anyone who is lucky enough to own an SD Studio replica (straight handle type?) if anyone is able to stick a scale rule across their prop replica, I would again be most grateful. Some basic photos of each component (case, lighter breach, cufflink and pen) to show the basic geometry / diameters / details would enable me to re-proportion some of the remaining details.

I can continue with my detailing and begin to make something I have dreamed of owning since I was a kid.

Again, any help of any kind would be appreciated, as I am completely stuck without further assistance.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Please private message me for my email and moby number if anyone wants to chat.

Cheers.

thanks danjaq. hey, do you also post under the name dodgy_spike???

Ive seen a similar theme of golden gun posts from both log-on names.

Do you know anyone who can help me out?

Ive got a couple of colibri 88's now, and a waterman pen, i could do with knowing the outer barrel diameter, as I think the pen is slightly smaler, and will need an outer shell / case manufacturers to match the prop / SD GG

if im brutally honest, its now got to the point where i have so many photos and images from the net, im struggling to tell which is which.... LOL

What is the closest to the original film prop?

Im trying to work of blooming photos this end, so getting accurate measurements is near impossible scaling from a photo.

so as a seasoned GG pro, which is the best to get dimensions from? I can tell that the FE GG isnt as close a match as the SD ones, from what ive seen.

Do you have a version of the closest match? Any chance of some profile photos?

im getting myself well muddled this end.

swings and roundabouts really, But I would say FE has it closest, yes SD has the legend and a correct pen and is a solid lump, FE captures the cigarette case and liter brilliantly.

    Thanks DanJaq,

Sounds like i need cufflink and pen measurements from an SD, and then Lighter and Ciggie case dims from the FE.

    Any takers for providing these?

I guess a hybrid of the two will make the most 'film accurate'.

Im also a huge collector of airguns, so im planing to sacrifice and cannibalise one of my small CO2 pistols to make a single shot CO2 powered Golden Gun. Im planning to have the gas reservoir and firing mechanism all within the extending breach, and have the cufflink as an actual working trigger.

I loved the firing effect of Quartermasters, but if I can get a single shot airgun out of this build too, that would be great sunday afternoon target shooting!!

Noted. Just a tad disheartening so many people are reading, but leaving no advice or comments. I dont expect anyone to jump off the sofa and start posting stuff immediately, but if owners of SD's or FE's GGs could impart some friendly advice (i.e. whats good / bad about the various models etc), its will keep me on the right path.

Pointless me working off SD photos, especially and DanJaq has pointed out the benefits of the lighter and case on his FE version.

I would also be very interested to find out if anyone else has had a go at making a GG, other than Quartermaster (Mike). I have seen some images of a GG on a prop website by someone called Jason, who says the photos are of a custom made GG. Does anyone know if:

    A) This was his own build?
    B) Does he use this site / ID?

    Cheers All!

PS, now have 2 Colibri 88's and a spot on Waterman Pen!

    jason's was custom, don't think he's a member here.

danjaq is sole authority on the gg, he's freakin OBSESSED with it.

as for making it fire, are you still wanting to 'break' it, as seals/air pressure will be hard/impossible to maintain.

I would suggest that you pull up a chair and stay for a while, get to know a few people, you never know Mick the Quartermaster may turn up.

Finding it disheartening that you didn't get a reply, that's life mate, can you imagine how many messages I get asking the same as your self, stalking me was never going to get you anywhere, basically a very good friend of mine gave me the blueprints, he paid a lot of money to get them, so don't you think it would be taking the piss if I just gave out copy's here and there.

    With all of that said, we are all Bond fans and friendly bunch, so stick around like I said, I'm sure you will find the help you need. -{

and if you have a butt plug you may even tempt me to help :D

Fantastic, lots of replies on Butt Plugs. I feel well out of the loop on this community joke...... :o

I do have a big box of rubber fists if thats any good?

Anyhow. Like I said, I dont expect anyone to post Blueprints as they are far to valuable. Some decent aspect photos would be equally as good.

DanJaq, certainly didnt mean to 'stalk' you. Like you said, im persistant.......

I have tracked down the Quartermaster on Facebook and sent him a very polite message. Im hoping he will reply with some words of wisom, details and encouragement.

I know full well I'm not going to complete this project to a satisfatory standard (i.e. Quartermasters), without some input from a knowledgeable community such as ABJ007, The RPF or YourProps.

Im entirely at the mercy of the goodwill of this community.

But if people are prepared to give me some help and pointers, I can promise (eek!) a fully working single shot GG airgun, which to my knowledge, nobody has done before.

Anyone know where I could get the Hobnail / Clous De Paris pattern sheet metal to clad a Colibri 88 in??? This stuff is like moondust......

as for making it fire, are you still wanting to 'break' it, as seals/air pressure will be hard/impossible to maintain.

I have a wide selection of CO2 pistols I can strip down. Some have integral valves / firing mechanisams, others have them built in to magazine . canister assemblies. i also have some Airsoft guns which have very compact firing valves.

Once I know how big the breach assembly is on cross section, i should be able to work out what size gas reservoir I can fit, and what the firing pin / valve options are into the brear of the breach.

Take on board comments regarding maintenance, so I will be looking to make it field stripable (albeit probably with small screws etc).

First port of call for the breach was to find something pre-machined:

Que what is hopefully a good cross sectional starting point!! (subject to somebody giving me an idea of the breach dimensions)

Before Singe turns up, I think it would be illegal to make such a thing, 5 years is a long time, you would come out cross eyed :D

I have spoken to a professional gunsmith who plays around with .50cal stuff and sought firearms advice.

If I used the 'bones' of an existing airgun, which is below 6ft/lb power (the legal limit for a pistol), there should be nothing prohibiting such a build. If I start with something legal, then I cannot go far wrong.

Airsoft is the best option, as they are extremely low powered, but this would rely on plastic ammo (possibly 4.5mm indoor plastic pellets being the closest match to the 4.2mm). Most of the CO2 pistols are 2 to 3 ft/lb power, so again, less than half the legal limit, but these would facilitate lead pellets for outdoor summer shooting in the garden.

I have a local firearms dealer, and also a custom firearms gunsmith who are prepared to assist with the built, and get mechanicsms tested and signed off :D

Also the fact its a fictional weapon, in bright shiney gold helps with any woes the RIFS (Realistic Imitation Firearm) acts bring.

Dont worry, having spent many years buying lots of guns (for target shotting, airsoft, paintballing etc), I'm well aware of the legalities and also the consequences (i.e. the minimum 5 years of getting 'abused' in the clink :#) that bending these rules brings.

    Thanks for your concern though!
