Timothy Dalton is my least favourite Bond. I appreciate what he brought to the role, trying to give a more "grounded" performance and bringing Bond back to Fleming, but he flippantly tossed away any sense of humour; Terence Young understood that humour was a major component differentiating the literary Bond and the cinematic Bond. Speaking as a fan of Roger Moore, maybe I don't take Bond seriously enough, but for my money Dalton took Bond far too seriously. Even the dour Daniel Craig can appreciate a good laugh or two.

The funny thing is Dalton fought to keep the humour in. He had a famous
Argument with John Glen ( who wanted to cut it all out ) about keeping
The one liners in. ) although I'm sure many other things were argued over.

I didn't care much for Dalton's Bond back in '87-'89, but then I read the books. I respectfully submit that there's plenty of humour in Dalton's Bond, it's just a threshold thing. For example, when Kara hits him with the pillow it's a genuine LOL moment. )
Least favorite Bond? Pierce Brosnan for the reasons that Shady Tree and Broadshoulder mentioned. Also unlucky for him that he followed my favorite Bond actor )

That's odd. Seems like the few one-liners that Dalton did have were delivered with very little enthusiasm.

Sadly he had to follow the king of the one-liner, Sir Rog ! )
And he more than made up for his minor weakness by being a vast improvement on every other level! (Is Higgins lurking about? I might be in a bit of trouble! ) )
) I can still feel the excitement of seeing Dalton on the land rover with no
Green screen, he really was on it.! {[] that was great after years of special
Effects to get Moore in close up. )

I think reasons for disliking a Bond vary as you'd expect. Some reasons i don't buy though, like people who say they didn't buy Dalton as Bond. How can one of the most realistic portrayal's of the character be brushed aside? As for the suit nonsense you could argue that Brosnan was a catalogue model, rather than a dangerous James Bond. remember Bond is meant to be dangerous
but I could just never get past Daltons lack of physicality.
The thing is, though, Fleming's Bond has been described as having a slim build. He is not meant to look well built physically; what he did possess was certain martial arts skills which helped him win the fight. Dalton did look slim, but he's about the right build for Fleming's Bond.
but for my money Dalton took Bond far too seriously.
To me, the only time it become too serious is when they are darker in tone than even the Fleming novels. So far, a number of films have come close to the level of seriousness in the Fleming novels, but none have surpassed it.
Bond is meant to be serious; he is meant to have a cold, cruel, dangerous look about him. That's the way he was written. I think Dalton fits that description down to a T, and his portrayal of Bond was spot-on.

Although I generally agree with those who feel humor is Dalton's weakness, he has had his moments. I particularly liked this one too.

Exactly! That and the tiny gun, and yet men still feared him. Can't get much more dangerous than that! )
