No way would I pick NSNA over ANY of the Bond films.
Okay, maybe it's a tie with DAD. But none of the others, including AVTAK. That's how much I dislike it. Beach Boys here I come )
To be quite honest I couldn't really care if Connery went back to Bond, just as I don't think I'd care if any of them did, to be honest.
It's just a cheap version of it.
Connery must've wanted the old days back, or to just reinburst his funds..
Actually no, to shove it in Cubby's face.
If you ask me, it's the worst of the lot.

Sean Connery most likely had accepted by then that he was never going to escape his Bond image regardless of what else he did. No doubt money was a big factor. Regardless, his return as Bond in NSNA (intended or not) was a stepping stone that led to more high profile roles in big films such as The Untouchables, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Hunt for Red October.

NSNA is better than any of the Roger Moore cartoons. NSNA is not great by any stretch, but I have never liked Moore. His presence in the movies makes them all unwatchable for me.
I lump it in with the Moore films, too. Connery is better in the role than Moore ever was, but the "humor" (*cough*) in NSNA is about as broad as in any of the Moore films, and the film has aged about as badly.
It's been my favorite Bond film since I first saw it around 1998. The first scene I saw was the confrontation between Bond and Fatima. When he blew her up with that pen, I couldn't believe it. I stayed for the rest of it and enjoyed it all the way through, but the Tears of Allah was a bit boring. I liked the ending. Despite this being an unpopular opinion, the theme is my favorite all all Bond themes.
I certainly didn't hate the film as much as many other Bond fans, and I also enjoyed the interaction between Bond and Fatima. But THAT theme song was your favorite??? Good Lord!!!!!

Well the fan made EON version is nice – I find Largo more manic and dangerous in this compared to many other villains… in addition I like Connery back….I don’t like Mr. Bean… Bassinger…
NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN is an intellectual giant compared to CASINO ROYALE (2006). I rate NSNA higher than CASINO ROYALE, QUANTUM OF SOLACE, A VIEW TO A KILL, DIE ANOTHER DAY, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, OCTOPUSSY, MOONRAKER, 75% of THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, and LIVE AND LET DIE.
Plus, I would rather watch Connery at any age over Daniel Craig anytime.

The top 7 Bond films: 1) Dr No. 2) From Russia With Love. 3) Thunderball. 4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service. 5) For Your Eyes Only. 6) The Living Daylights. 7) Licence to Kill.
Wow! You really are letting your hatred of Daniel Craig get the best of you my friend! There is no bigger fan of Sean Connery's Bond than me, but NSNA better than Casino Royale?????? Come on!!!!

Personally, I rank it higher than a lot of Bonds, as well. And slightly above TB, because the cast is overall better, the direction is more focused and the overall mood of the story reminds me more of the first two Bond films than TB does - that doesn't mean TB isn't an excellent Bond film, of course.
Anyway, I must admit a certain sense of hilarity came right through me when I saw this thread, as if the mere idea of anyone liking this at all is an impossibility... But one should note that EON did everything in its power to prevent this film from being even the slightest bit original, so I think its more prone to be forgiveable for its lack of very much that - particularly where the ending is involved.

I rank it above half of Roger Moore's entries...but then I enjoy it more than most here on AJB...perhaps it's because I'm only about 3 years away from the age that Sir Sean was when he did it... ;%

I can enjoy NSNA as a cheeky parody of the Bond films, and think it has its moments of humour and wit, with Connery in fine form. However, the production values are a bit cheapskate in places alright, compared to the real thing.
I'd still prefer it to most of Roger Moore's 1980's Bond films though ....
i fully agree - i like the self-ironic approach, which is also contained in the title. i prefer it to many moore movies and i also like kim basinger in the movie
I think it is better than any of Moore's efforts. I like it and think it is a great ending to the Connery era. The soundtrack and lack of those EON touches does diminish it though. I love the scene when 007 puts the cigar case in the bouncers hand than eloquently disposes of his gun. Classic Connery.

The scene with the bouncer is great - but why does he dispose of his gun? What is that all about?
I think it was done as one of those funny quirky Connery moments. Like eating the grape in Thunderball after he dispatched of the baddie in the hotel room. Displaying his Bond never gets rattled... except in Dr. No damn tarantulas!
But whose gun is he leaving? Why would he leave his own gun there for anyone to pick up? Or was it the bouncer's gun? I don't recall the bouncer being armed. ?:)

I would've been disappointed if he wasn't in IJATLC.
