would Moore have been invited back for 3rd film if not contracted?

Does anyone think Moore wouldn't have been offered TSWLM had his contract been 2-films only.
Even though LALD was relatively successful, TMWGG wasn't really. TSWLM was a real hit for Moore and very good film. But if Moore's contract had been for 2 films, (not 3) did he do enough to earn a 3rd crack, would the producers have looked for another actor? what do people think.

a good businessman like Cubby knows, how tough it is to establish a good brand.

So, in the case of a new James Bond actor, Cubby was wise to offer Moore (who was a well-known and highly respected actor already) a long-year contract.

So, your if- and when- is pointless (unless you intend to start another Moore-bashing or Dalton - appraisal) as EON offered longer contracts to all Connery successors - except Dalton :D

As the Moore Movies went right from the beginning, I doubt, that they would have been looking for a new actor after 2 movies if your drawn situation would be real.

    My change a winning team?

Sacking Moore after TMWTGG and presenting a new Bond again after just one (Lazenby) or two films (Moore) would have meant to admit complete failure: "Sean Connery is James Bond" and there is no one that can replace him. This would have brought the end to the Bond films as Connery wouldn't come back again.

As disaster movies were very popular in the 70's ("The Towering Inferno, "Poseidon Adventure" etc.) there is but one man other than Moore that could have saved the franchise: Timothy Dalton, his acting a disaster. :D

I think it was acknowledged that GG just wasn't that good a movie, period, not too much to do with Moore. Added to which, they didn't really think there were too many Bond films left anyway, so may as well stick with what they've got rather than rearranging the deck chairs on a sinking ship. Of course, Spy really renewed the franchise so all was good and the ball was in Moore's court - they needed him back for MR to capitalise on the previous film's success.

TSWLM is over rated even for a Moore Bond film. But I agree with most of the previous replies.

Actually Dalton was on a 3-film contract +(option for 4th). So his contract length was same as Moore & Brosnan. Moore was signed for 3 films, then negotiated 1-film at a time. look i'm happy with what Moore did for Bond. i'm glad he stayed in the role & got better. AVTAK was a film too many though. I like the movie, but Moore too old.

Pah, maybe you re-watch that movie.

TSWLM set the mark for a new generation of Super-Movies (together with Star Wars). Must have had one of the largest budgets of that time, can't imagine anything else getting close to it.

The PTS, the Liparus set, the action scenes and the girls have been defining for the entire branch.

I have no idea, what is your beef with that movie.

I'll give you the PTS, and even the lotus. I have minor gripes with some Egypt stuff with Jaws and the silly score while driving in the desert. Overall it seems to lag for me in spots.

Probably the main reason I call it overrated is just that I prefer both LALD and FYEO to it. I don't see it as the best Moore film that the masses seem to.

I think FYEO is the best Moore film, but probably followed by TSWLM.

    Yes...I can :p

Dalton was on the same contract as the others - bar Lazenby....the official line about him leaving the role was that too much time had elapsed since LTK....and there was mention that the contract was only binding for five years...officially Eon were happy to continue with Dalton, and there is no proof to prove otherwise...but changing the lead actor gave Eon a great excuse to get free publicity in their search for a new Bond...

As always Markus we know your feeling for Dalton… but in essence Dalton him self said no to GE…. You could also be a smart as and say the LD was written to PB and that GE was written to Dalton the two best movies of TD and PB…

You could also say that TD was trying to do what DC is doing now – a more trough JB… but hey.

According to many documentaries TD was offered the role as 3 times /starting with OHMSS) before accepting…don’t think a lot of actors would do that

Anyway back to RM – RM is perfects for his years…
