Do you like the James Bond Ultimate Edition DVD set?

What do you like about the James Bond Ultimate Edition DVD set. Talk about any Volume. Can you recommend that someone buy the collection? Do the movies include additional footage? Are they the United Kingdom version?

Are you asking because you want to know or because you just want others peoples opinions ?

Both. I am thinking of buying one of the volumes. If they are going to re-release the entire collection again in 2012, then perhaps I can wait. Maybe I shouldn't. I hear this Ultimate Collection is very special.

    Hi everyone! First post of many I hope -{

I have it and at the moment you can pick it up for about £50 from HMV. However it's not really full of extras which is unfortunate. Otherwise a really good buy and a bit of a bargain I'll think you'll agree...

Welcome Smiert-Spionam. Nice to have you on ajb007. I think its fun to answer questions on here and do some asking to.
I am mostly interested in the "Licence To Kill" movie in the Ultimate Edition. There were 2 scenes that had to be cut out. I believe it was some of the shark scene that was too graphic and the scene of Anthony Zerbe's head blowing up. You will notice the quick cut they made on that followed by the sound effect.
Just wanted to know if those deleted clips are in the United Kingdom version or if they are seen as deleted scenes on the DVD.

    Thanks James362001.

The two scenes you mention (the shark scene and Trueman-Lodges exploding head) are in the United Kingdom versions of LTK. There are no deleted scenes type extras on the DVD's unfortunately which IMO is a bit of a disappointment. Otherwise as I've already said, the Ultimate Edition DVDs are an excellent investment!

I was waiting for the complete set in Blu-ray and finally gave up and bought the Ultimate Edition set. I am quite happy with it and find the additional material on the second DVD very interesting. An additional advantage is it will play on any DVD equipped computer or on any Blu-ray player so you are not locked into a just Blu-ray players. This also makes it easy to convert the video for loading onto an iPod or similar device. Hopefully when the Blu-ray version finally arrives it will include a digital copy. I have the NTSC format version.

I tell a lie. I have the James Bond Ultimate Collecters Set and not the Ultimate Edition. Wasn't even aware there was a difference but there you go!

I enjoyed them. My only gripes were A View To A Kill and Goldeneye are incorrectly framed (I pray these are fixed on the Blu-Ray version when they come out) and Die Another Day was missing extras so I'm glad I kept Disc 2 from the original Special Edition version.

They should be pretty cheap nowadays as a good amount of the series was already released on Blu-ray.
But for 2012/2013, it appears as though there will be a new catalog reissuing of the entire series on Blu-ray.

In my opinion the UEs are a mixed bag. The Lowry restoration was good in some aspects but they always have a tendency to remove too much in their process. The films were also tinkered with in picture and sound and do not always resemble their theatrical counterparts. The R2 editions lack original audio and have some errors that were corrected for the R1 editions.
The colors are off on most of the films, some have cropping issues, some lack original audio, the 5.1 remixes are too overdone in cases, and some titles have Edge Enhancement and other DVD manipulation.
Some of the released Blu-rays have quietly readdressed some of these problems. For example, Live and Let Die has had the contrast fixed whereas Thunderball still has color problems despite some new tinkering.
It's still a great set because of the theatrical aspect ratios and extras.

I'm just too used to the versions I grew up with that accurately reflect the old Technicolor look. So I started collecting the Laserdiscs. But I'm an analog junkie anyway.

Hegottheboot (only typing it out do I get what that name comes from, read it as Hedge something before...) does a good post. For some, the Special Edition DVD that came earlier is best. I dislike the tinkering with OHMSS - they darken the pts so it isn't how I like it, the music is not quite right to my ears) and on TSWLM they remaster the sound so the hi-hat is obtrusive on Bond 77 during the ski chase, sounds rubbish to me, and so on. However, the UE of Thunderball is brilliant and better than the blu-ray as has been written about elsewhere. Oh, on AVTAK Snow Job in the pts ski scene just didn't sound right to me, so I got the Special Edition instead. Being a nitpicker these things really get to me and I personally can prefer watching the movies taped off the telly, it also depends on your TV system.

I bought the 007 James Bond Ultimate Edition a couple yeats ago and I am pretty happy about it. There are 4 boxes wich containt 5 films each and they are blue, red, gold and silver. Some movies have a lot of interesting special features such as deleted scenes, screentests, documentaries, etc. There are two DVD's per film. One contains the actual movie and the other contains the extra stuff. Oh, and the last box (volume 4) contains a little book called "James Bond: The Secret World Of 007" wich is quite interesting. It contains some movie facts and drawings of some villains lair and other things from the movies. I would have prefered to buy the collect that is sold with a silver briefcase but I couldn't get my hands on it. Anyway, I really like this collection and I recomand it to every Bond Fans.
