Favorite scene from Dr No ( Next post will be FRWL, then GF ect !!! )

I thought since there are SO many great scenes from each movie I would like to see what people liked the best from each movie.
Of course I will start with Dr No and go from there.

I loved when he shot Prof Dent in the back with his silenced ppk. I thought it set the tone for the entire franchise. Yes Bond is sophisticated, charming and very well liked, BUT HE IS ALSO A STONE COLD KILLER working for " Her majesty's " government.

I agree Dent's killing was cold, as revenge should be :))
Even with One film I'm having trouble picking just one But here's a few scenes I really like.

Bond trying to sneak his gun Back, Bond Pushing past an armed guard to say goodbye to Quarrel, ( showing respect to his comrades ) and asking for two plane tickets to London, to show despite their luxuary cell and friendly staff. He was still a prisoner, and not staying in some counrty hotel.

    I think these show something of Bond, his loyalty to friends, his ability to kill in cold blood, a Disregard for athority when he thinks it's needed/ or thinks he knows better, mixed with a dry witt. Not one liners but a more cruel deadpan delivery as with the "I think they where on their way to a funeral" line. -{

Which I think would work with D Craigs take on Bond as I think he could deliver this type of comment without harming his interpretation of Bond.

Quite right about the cold blooded killing of Dent. A blunt instrument indeed. Additionally, I liked the silent alarms in the hotel room. Taken directly from the novels. The talc on the attaché case, hair across the closet door etc. Vintage Bond! Also like the repartee with Miss Taro and the way he smells her towel and pounces on her like some kind of animal. Furthemore I like the way Bond is dressed. Awesome suiting that has withstood the test of time.

I love the "orientation" phase, when Bond enters another country. Fleming captured the spirit of traveling very well in his novels and I am trying to get that feeling when I enter another country as well.

Because of this, the Jamaica arrival scenes are my favorites in Dr. No.

I love the start and how TY introduces Bond… I addition it gives the franchise one of the Bond classis lines “ Bond…..James Bond”…

But there is so many scenes I love in Dr. No… like the arrival in Jamaica going though the terminal.. The list goes on

The introduction scene is iconic so for me it's a tough choice between it and the Dent assignation. The other scene that I particularly like is the card game and drinks scene with Strangeways, which for me, captures the feel of the colonial Jamaica experience.

The spider in the bed, in the novel it was a centipeed which I don't think would have had the same effect onscreen.

Just going to repeat what's been said - but I liked the way he dealt with Dent, loved the spider scene, the opening casino scene, the hotel room - plucking out a hair, using the talc to check for tampering - it's all so good, and yet I feel they strayed a little too far over the years for the visual gags and terrible one-liners. It would be great to get Bond back on track as a spy-come-intelligence officer instead of a one-man SAS-come-fashion model.

I love Dr. No, so many great scenes and lines. The scenes all show the ease at which Bond goes about his job. Connery makes it look easy when his life is at stake.

My favorite is probably the "better late than never" line after getting out of a speeding car right after killing Professor Dent. I use this line at least once at week if not more. I don't think the killing is as cold as most. It's funny, people consider Bond this harsh, cold killer but I'm pretty sure everyone attempts to kill Bond first. Dent shoots at what he thinks is Bond in bed. Then even tries to shoot him again with an empty gun.

I agree on what has been written so far. I would also add the scenes with Bond in the cell and his escape from it. The set design and the music ads a lot to that part of the movie.

That's what I have always thought, Dent tries to kill Bond 3 times in all twice in the aforementioned scene and it was Dent who put the spider in the bed, although you don't see it , he was given the spider by Dr No in the scene before it.
So imo not so much a cold blooded killing of Dent more self preservasion.

I would echo much of what people have said -- the "Bond, James Bond" introduction, the killing of Dent, the simple spycraft (hair on closet door, powder on briefcase, etc.).

I will add one...when Bond is greeted by Mr. Jones at the airport, he smells a rat and calls Government House to inquire as to the pick-up. Playdell-Smith says no car was sent, and Bond hangs up having confirmed that Jones is an enemy. Connery's sneer as he exits the phone booth tells you all you need to know about Bond's toughness. Brilliant.

It would have to be the opening.

The odd, unusual take on the now iconic gunbarrel - weird sci-fi Forbidden Planet warbles and all, then the Saul Bass (is it? Hitchcock guy)-style titles, quite unlike Binder's other titles, in fact really wasn't it FRWL's titles (which Binder didn't do) that set the whole thing in motion? Or am I wrong, did he do that one too and skip GF?

Anyway, it's the colourful trippy circles and theme and how it segues so cool into the calypso, anticipating Pulp Fiction's titles by about 30 years, how it just ditches one tune in favour of another one when it feels like it.

Other than that, all the scenes are v good and on a par, special mention for the dinner table talk with No himself.

It's hard to pick just one, but Bond's killing of Professor Dent has to be right up there. Dr No as a whole is one of my favourite Bond movies - definitely in the top 3 or 4 for me.

Yes, I concur, that sneer was brilliant.

Dr. No has many great scenes, it is still a favourite and I really like the introduction, the hotel scene, the spider scene, Dent having had his six. But my two favourite scenes haven't been mentioned. The first one is the scene with M and the armourer. IMHO this is pure Fleming. The look Bond gives M after `the unless you'd rather return to standard intelligence duties` is priceless.

The second one is the dinner with Dr. No. It is the first time you see Dr. No, and the tension that builds between the two makes this a great scene IMHO.

More good scenes there. I like the way the camera pulls away when they start roughing Bond up at the table, and you can hear him getting punched. It seems really cold and menacing.

Most odd scenes are early on with the Buddy Holly style wireless opps and the gormless looking fellow enquiring after Bond at the club who we never see again (but would be cast as Villiers no doubt these days). It all has the feel of a 1930s Hitchcock film, the 39 Steps in particular and is very odd and interesting, none of the cosy warmth that normally kicks off Bond, plus the sheer Britishness contrasts with the sunshine of the opening Jamaica scenes.
