Favorite scene ( 's ) FRWL

"From Russia with love" held my top spot for greatest Bond movie for a number of years, I have since moved OHMSS above it but it is still #2 in my book.

I am going to have to list a couple here

Of course the train fight scene with Grant may indeed be the single best fight/action scene of the entire franchise.

I also loved the fighting fish scene that introduced us to Ernst Stavro Blofeld. This is my favorite Blofeld of the entire series.

Rosa Kleb's shoe was also a classic. In fact I just watched " Salt " last night and they had a Russian agent with the shoe blade.

Blowing up the Boats with the flair gun gets a good honorable mention as well.

We've had our serious hats on.

I agree with the above two scenes. I would also offer up the sheer social awkwardness of Grant and Bond's first meeting after we see Grant stalk Bond along the platform. It's a rare scene where we are ahead of Bond, we see him suspicious but he can't figure it out. He is trying not to offend Grant, but watch his expression when Grant offers him his card! A sort of WTF? I can't think of another instance in the series where they have this kind of thing, maybe with Drax and his cucumber sandwiches, but there it's obvious he's the villain.

But taking off my serious hat, a special mention to Tatiana's seduction in the hotel suite, and while we're on the subject, how come Trench and her putter didn't get a mention on the Dr No thread? :)

Train fight tops the list, of course.

The whole gypsy camp sequence kind of stands outside of the film (I remember watching the film on American TV with the whole sequence edited out, and it didn't impact the flow of the movie all that much) but I like that it provides a light-hearted respite from what is otherwise a pretty serious film. Even the battle scene is somewhat comedic, with a drunken Vavra yelling "thank you!", probably the only English he knows.

And finally...I would encourage everyone to go back and watch the sequence of Bond and Tatiana hurriedly boarding the train in Istanbul. The scene is filmed from afar with the train moving, they run aboard, the train pulls out of the station, and the camera pans back a few cars to find Grant looking out the window which he then closes. All of this is accomplished with a single shot, which cannot have been easy to choreograph. The Bond films are not associated with cinematic virtuosity, but this is a pretty impressive sequence.

Every single second of the film is fantastic, to me it is the only time that the liteary Bond and cinamatic Bond are as one in this film.

Like Nap said, I like the whole first meeting with Grant - he is out of his class and Bond seems suspiscious from the off - even knowing that he has slipped the girl the drug on the train - just before Grant plays his hand.

Kerim Bay is a class act - from having the bed for quick assignations in his office, to knowing the game against the Russians so well. I like Bond's quip about the girl finding his "technique" too rough when he tells her she ran out screaming! (When the mine went off).

I like the gypsy fight, and later the battle with the Bulgarians. And I also like the assassination with the rifle when the guy comes out of the billboard sign - the chemistry between Bond and Kerim is brilliant.

Again - so many good bits. IMO the first four Bonds have never been equaled.

Agreed, the first Four Bonds are great -{ and as others have mentioned, the train sequence with Grant and the first Blofeld meeting are all brilliant. Robert Shaw was a stunning piece of Casting and a talented Actor.

Once again we are on the same page TP
Robert Shaw was one of my all time favorite character actors.

The card scene in the " Sting " was classic " I was just startin to do good Lineman "
The look Shaw gave Newman after that line was classic. Shaw gives him a polite little laugh but you know he wants to cut out Newman's eyeballs.

We lost him to soon !!!!!

Shaw was almost a strange choice, they got him before he was a star or big name actor. Now they never really seem to discover actors, the exception to some extent being Vesper's Eve Green. Or they go for big names like Finney to lend clout, which isn't the same.

This one is easy, I agree with all of you. FRWL is my favourite film and I think it would be easier to name my least favourite scenes because the list would be a lot shorter :)

Of course I love the train fight. But the minutes before that are what makes that (fight)scene for me. Bond knowing something is "not right" with captain Nash, but still falling for his ploy and being knocked down. The conversation after that is great too, Grant is convinced he has won, wants the other gold sovereigns as well and Bond wants to open the case because he knows there is a gun in it but Grant stops him, Grant opens case, and then the fight starts. I remember seeing that for the first time in 1993, it was the time I really got into Bond.

My favourite Bond film, so many potential candidates - and the best part of the film for me is undoubtedly the Orient Express sequence. But I won't nominate the fight as my favourite scene, but rather something more subtle which always gives me a satisfied chill down my spine. That is the scene in which Bond has a conversation with one of Kerim's sons at the train station, and they walk along the side of the train, meanwhile in the background we see Grant following them from inside the train's corridor. Once Bond boards the train, the camera stays on Grant framed in the window of the train as John Barry's fantastic 'Zagreb Express' cue begins. (Sadly ommitted from the soundtrack album)

Another favourite scene is the Krilencu assassination. Great build up of tension, and atmosphere created by the dark cinematography. Once again, John Barry is one of the heroes in this scene (and again this cue was ommitted from the album).

I love all of FRWL, to me its the best Bond film that hasn't been topped yet. one of my favorite scenes that hasnt been mentioned yet is the opening PTS, where who we think is Bond is being stalked by Grant, its a brilliant scene because it shows that Bond is going to be in real trouble with this guy later in the film. Also, i love the subtle Bond theme riff heard when the Bond-imposter shoots at Grant.

My favorite scenes are as follows:

    The whole teaser scene

Bond and Kerim Bey spying the Russians from the sewers

    Gypsy Camp scequence

    Assassination of Krilencu

Tanya's seduction of Bond, in the hotel with that beautiful black velvet ribbion around her neck

Bond fighting Grant on the train

Chase with helicopter and boat scene

Bond throwing the film strip in the canal in Venice at the end

The fight on the train. A proper fight - physical, brutal and believable. I have a black belt in karate and have done some judo, and a bit of ju-jitsu and I know that fights don't go the way of Craig's Bond, or Jason Bourne - good though they might look on the screen most fights actually look more like the one in the street at the end of Bridget Jones!

I love FRWL. The opening minutes are great with the whole plot against Bond and MI6. So many great scenes mentioned here. I won't echo those but one of my favorites is Bond's check of the hotel room for hidden surveillance equipment. This is something we haven't seen since AVTAK if I recall correctly. To this day I still check hotel rooms for stuff.

Picking the best scene from the best Bond movie is a rather difficult task. The fight on the train, though, stands out as being the best for reasons already mentioned.

Hey, GaddGeneGadd, this is a great series you're producing; but before you get to Thunderball, may I politely point out that there is no apostrophe in the plural? It's just scenes. Peace out, dude! B-)

    Thanks HB
I think when I did Dr No I just put scene, then of course I got to FRWL and had to expand it. Even college papers I received A's on ALWAYS had a ton of red ink running through it :)) If only I could have a full-time editor for life :D :D

Maybe not the best, but my two favorite scenes are.
The scene in which Tatiana enters Bond's bed.
The scene in the train beyond
