It's not an embarrassment like the last one, but feels like a Programme spewed out a 'Bond theme' Adele not as whiny as usual. It's an attempt at classic, but winds up as generic.
Well I'll reserve judgement till I hear the full version but putting lyrics to the 50 year old 007 theme....hmmm, well why not it worked for Moby on Tomorrow Never Dies and Monty Norman will be well happy
Here is a BBC interview with Adele's producer Paul Epworth. He talks (amongst other things) about the making of the Skyfall song, the honour of being asked to do it and the pressure to deliver.

I have to agree...but generic beats awful any day of the week. Look forward to hearing the complete version.
Thanks that worked listened to it on my droid at work so it's hard to say what the quality was but I love how she worked the Bond theme in. I have missed that in the previous few theme songs

Poor old EON. They can't win on this one. As with their titles generally, produce something traditional & you're accused of unoriginality, produce something more avant garde & you're messing with history.

Too true but with Another Way to Die Alecia Keys was screaming as if she was having "a moment" , which is a shame as the girl has a bloody good voice when she sings straight .
Personally I thought Chris Cornell's "You Know my Name" was brilliant tying in nicely with "You Know the Name you Know the Number" tag line from Goldeneye, mated with Daniel Kleinman's fantastic titles sequence. The song was fast paced which matched brilliantly with the fast paced rollercoaster ride which Casino Royale was and Daniel Craig's Bond is.
Tomorrow Never Dies was runied by having K.D. Lang's Surrender as the end titles when something that in yer face which was very reminiscent of a John Barry/Shirley Bassey 1960's Bond production should have been the main title song IMO....unfortunately BB liked Ms Crowe's music at the time
Hopefully it will include a musical twist in the middle or something. Otherwise it´s the James Bond theme (same chord turnaround), with Adele singing on top the title of the movie. Sounds pleasant, but so generic it borders on downright boring. Give me "Another way to Die" and "You Know My Name" any day over this. IMHO the late Amy Winehouse plus Mark Ronson producing could have done something much more interesting. Sadly it isn´t to be.
Waiting to make my final opinion when I hear the full version in a format that provides good quality sound. However, my first reastion is, I like it, don't love it, but it is far superior to anything we have heard since maybe GE.
I will say the strings at the end sound similar to some other Bond song, just not sure which one. Perhaps someone with a better ear than mine, which would be just about anyone, can identify what I think I am hearing.

There's absolutely no point in judging the song until its release this Thursday/Friday (depending where you are). Right now we've heard half a verse, and probably the first chorus. The song will no doubt build and build, not to mention the fact that it's nearly 5 minutes long. I suspect it could be breathtaking.
I totally agree with your points. Alicia Keys has a great voice and she was wasted by not having her actually sing on Another Way to Die. Although I wasn't originally that fond You Know My Name, it has really grown on me and I agree that it works perfectly with the CR titles sequence. Finally, I never understood why k.d. lang's gorgeous rendition of Surrender wasn't used as the title song for Tomorrow Never Dies, but I guess Ms. Broccoli's fondness for Ms. Crowe's music was one of the deciding factors.

My ex had me listening to Adele right before she got really big in the U.S., so that combined with her overplay makes me rather sick of her. Still, this is not a bad song, and I think it's going to be a huge hit, probably the biggest-selling of the Bond theme songs to this point.
I'm not as crazy about the ballad-y Bond songs only because they haven't been done very well since the classic era of John Barry. Adele's song is on par with something from Carly Simon -- much better than anything by Garbage but predictable and not as original as anything with Shirley Bassey -- and combined with Adele's mopey-dopey delivery, feels more lethargic than brassy. But I haven't heard the whole song yet and it may be much more intense in its complete version.

On this occasion I have to disagree. There is a possible 'third way' that avoids that binary between traditional and avant grade, but it takes more nouse and skill than displayed here. I really think that either Muse or Goldfrapp could have found that.

I'm very excited by what I've heard thus far. Looking forward to the bridge bit, and of course a taste of the whole thing. It's time they slowed it down, and I couldn't be happier with the choice of artist. I've a very good feeling.

What I heard so far was nice. It wasn't anything overly remarkable, but I think that a snippet taken from the piece can't be fully judged until you first know what the entire thing sounds like. I mean, Adele is known for having explosive vocal chords. I think that it would be a waste if she never opened up her pipes further. Let's hope she cuts loose further into the song.

At risk of being pedantic (again), the "007" theme is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46Zp3eBsJc4
and the "James Bond Theme" is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EplNfaqUgE
Easy to get confused!
(Btw, love the Adele "Skyfall" song!)

Will that be Friday 5th as well??

...maybe Thunderball?
