Ditch the horrible repetitive chanting and the song would be alright. It's a little dreary and doesn't build to anything spectacular. It's certainly not a fantastic song, and I wouldn't have said a 'classic' Bond theme, but its better than AWTD. I'm not keen on the "you know my name/number" lyrics either, a tad cliqued and unoriginal.
I don't know why people don't like the chanting - to me, this was one of the only things that actually made the song stand out and have something different. Without it, it would just be a generic bond song, like a TWINE rehash or something... There's nothing bad about this song (and it's a million times better than another way to die - what isn't?), but at the same time, so damn generic. I prefer You Know My Name...
The french radio verson isnt the full version, also the versions on youtube have had the pitch changed, the proper full length version has just been released, here's the OFFICIAL lyrics video from Adele's youtube channel.

With all due respect, gentlemen, how daft are you?
A long time lurker wonders:
Did you listen to the lyrics at all?
They tell a lot.
Just like the music- sheer beauty.
Enjoying death, 007's relationship to M, his return, standing by her side- all in there.
I only know the trailer but puzzle pieces start to fall in place.
I've drowned and dreamt this moment
So overdue I owe them:
Fleming!
And you whine about background chanting, think it's gospel and call her a twonk.
Oof.
Having heard the full thing, I have to say I like it...the original brief clip seemed a bit ambiguous, but in its entirety it's a strong piece. And certainly a nice change of pace from the last two theme songs.
I'm thrilled. Everything about Skyfall's marketing (with the exception of the dire UK one-sheet poster) has been sublime. As if the buzz wasn't already feverish enough, along comes this belter of a song. Whether it delivers or not, Skyfall is going to be big.

It's good, but it's an Adele song much more than a James Bond song -- take away the lilting Bond notes in the background, and it could be just another song on her CD. The lyrics don't strike me as consistently strong and the rhymes and images are cockeyed, but she does a good job smoothing over them. I don't think it measures up to anything in the 60s, but it beats a lot of the songs in the 80s and 90s and certainly is significantly better than the theme song to "Quantum of Solace."

I think we've gathered that Gordoleiter doesn't like it. What were you expecting, Bohemian Rhapsody? Goldfinger remix sung by Shirley Bassey, I think the problem is that too many people are always looking back to the 60's and to old Bond. Yes, those films are awesome and I watch them regulary, but we are not in the 60's anymore. The song, absolutly BRILLIANT, better then I ever expected, the best Bond song since Duran Duran, A view to a kill, sure to be a massive hit. The choir part is good, they added something new and different to the song.
“The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning. "
-Casino Royale, Ian Fleming
It's an okay song, nothing brilliant, but nothing offensive either. I still think it's rather generic/unmemorable and is not something I'd ever listen to outside the context of Skyfall.
Overall, I'd rank it somewhere in the middle as far as Bond themes go.

I don't like the background chanting. Apart from that it is a really classy song. Sure to be a big hit.
Donk has spoken
It all starts out rather promising, but I was expecting a good guitar to bring things to a head.
Alas, we just get a repetitive mantra of choral guff.
Sorry adele, ya a cracking singer n a lovely lass but this was all a bit lacking for me. I prefer chris cornell's efforts a lot more.

I personally really like it! Totally not what I expected, and I love the choir/chants!
I totally agree. The chanting doesn't bother me. Definitely the best Bond song in a long time. :0)
