The thing I've never understood is why do fans buy the Ltd Edition watches
If your a Bond fan then surely you want the watch that he ACTUALLY wears in the movies on your wrist???
Sometimes I feel that the fans don't realize that he wears the stock Omega model and genuinely believe he (in the movies) wears for example the PO with the 007 logo on the second hand.
Sorry guys to give a little counteropinion to all the bashing above.
I am not sure, if I will buy this LE but have some basic thoughts.
Do all the haters expect a LE Omega to be the only one, which is really screen accurate? Which means: you can't buy the regular Skyfall watch in a non-LE?
I don't think so!
So, we agree, that the idea to issue a special edition with a Skyfall watch MUST be different than the standard watch (image, how the comments would be here if it had no difference :v )
So, what should they do? Issue another 007 gun-logo hand and challenge all the smarta...s to mention again, that Bond would never wear a watch with his own number on. Yes, you are right, but a LE MUST be visibly different to the civil version (sorry to repeat myself).
Imagine, what would happen, if the watch would remain unchanged and the LE had just a booklet or a certificate included instead of a different design. Would that make you happier?
What I wanted to say is, that a 007 LE version must be different (did I say this before? :v ). So, instead of using a 007 gun logo, the gunbarrel and the bullet, what should they use? A batman logo?
Taste is a very personal thing and I myself liked the etched QoS limited edition very much. But it was so discrete, that noone could be really brought to spend the extra money to buy this watch.
I totally accept that some people find the watch tacky - but I'd politely ask all the moaners for a constructive suggestion, what Omega should have done to satisfy you all.
@ Omega: Now that I have defended you (as an avid Rolex supporter), you can send me my free reward LE Skyfall watch to the well known address

ok, i'll give my counter-counter-opinion on this...
while i agree with what you're saying pal, i'd say that discretion is the better part of valour here. ok, so you need to make a standard seamy into a LE. first up, numbers. 11,007 is not 'limited'. a thousand or so, maybe, but over 11,000? IM(humble)O, i can't class 11,007 as a limited run.
next up, the only thing that spoils it for me is the face. the whole 'copy and paste' logo effect is over the top for me. why not a more discreet engraving, say around the edge of the face, or maybe a small line of text above the 'professional' wording on the face? or maybe just the 007 logo (does mentioning that infringe forum rules?) replacing the omega logo on the crown and helium valve?
i just think that omega could have given the design a little more thought and spent more time getting it right instead of, what i think is, a hurried and lazy attempt.
what i think would be really cool would be a micro sd card hidden in a little slot in the case. you could have it loaded with a teaser trailer or something, and the way solid state memory is these days, it'd be a reliable and cool way of adding a new gadgety style twist. i know a lot would think this tacky, but i think it'd be ok.
plus i dont get how omega can make a 50th anniversary watch when bond hasn't been wearing one all the time....
Personally I like it. Its appearance is different to the other Omega Bond edition Seamasters/Planet Oceans. Will I like it as much when they anounce the RRP?..dunno!
As for the Quantum of Solace engraved Planet Ocean, next to the Casino Royale edition Planet Ocean I think it is the best Bond edition to date. Equally handsome was the black face Seamaster. No idea why they released it or what it had to do with 007 apart from its sweep hand, the 50th Anniversary Seamaster at least has an excuse for its existence before they release a Skyfall edition which will hopefully not be a $8000 jobby as mentioned previously and yes I'm a sad GIT!
Firstly in defense of the watch I LOVE the gun barrel case back - I think this is very classy and subtle!! In fact I think this alone would have made it such a unique watch for the 50th Ltd Edition without all the other 007 branding on the front. I don't think Omega needed to go any further then this however of course they want 007 in your face!!!!
The 50 bezel marker highlighted in Red?? Makes it look a bit odd, however an obvious thing to do.
007 plastered all over the face - now this is where I think they have overdone things and turned it into a tacky looking watch. 007 written once above co-axial would have been fine!!!
Bondtoys - I also think the QoS ltd edition was the finest 007 watch. It was classy and subtle, not too in your face (would have been perfect if they took QoS off it) ) !!!
If they released a normal 007 movie wearing Seamaster with the gun barrel case back - I would be very tempted to buy it but of course that aint going to happen!!
At the end of the day these things obviously sell so what do I know, however I still find it too over the top and they could be designed with a bit more class to match the current Bonds style!!
I have a reply to Bondtoys. Hey big guy. I think you have some valid points. However, I would say why have an LE in the first place? I think the idea that the watch is in a Bond movie is enough to sell the watch. Moreover, to me 10,007 or 11,007 watches does not, to me, constitute a limited edition. But let's say for the sake of argument you have to have an LE Omega with each new Bond movie. Can't they confine all that "007" branding and "suchlike" to the case back? Even FE does not put "007" logos all over their LE props. The FE LE props include extras like autographs to sell the prop at a higher cost, not extra logos. Having said that, I know that there are some people in this world that have to have such items. Which is why, I imagine, Omega makes them.

Well, it has been 10007 before and I guess, that Omega is making as many as they can sell.

regarding the 007 print on the Dial: I like the idea to replace the iconic wave pattern by this. They have done this 10 years ago (40yrs of Bond Ltd. Ed.) and in real life, it's not that "in your face "like the press pics suggets. See the thing in real life and you know what I mean

TRhey celebrate 50 yrs of Bond and try to get a money cut from their huge investment in placing their watches for 10 years now. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
I am sure, that they will find enough collectors, who will add the Ltd. Ed. to their "cilvil" version of the Skyfall watch.
If not, it's their risk.

I think all the companies involved in Skyfall will try to get in on the 50th anniversary in some way.
I have been reading speculations, that the center of the caseback is actually a glass.
And the "bullet casing" thing is the center of the rotor, which then circles like a bullet, which is fired thru the barrel.
I am not saying, that it is like this, but if it was, I'd find this kind of cool and I am sure, MG would agree
Alternatively, the entire "barrel" could be the rotor, which is visible thru a huge glass caseback. Also very nice!

Hey, DG, good to see you on a watch topic.
Guess, that I have to stick with my Seiko watches now
Well sometimes the Bond watch topics get very passionate. Since I'm not passionate about LE Omega Bond watches I'm happy to leave it, for the most part, to others such as your self.
As for the standard Bond watch, I would much prefer it if DC as Bond would have stuck to the big Seamaster PO and merely changed straps and bracelets from movie to movie. Similar to what Connery did with the Rolex Submariner or even Brosnan with the blue Seamaster. But I'm old school I suppose and I don't mind owning it.
As for the Seikos they are not my passion either. However, I know you are passionate about them and are an expert in that area. So I'm happy to leave it to you. If the urge should ever strike me to own a TSWLM Seiko I know you are the man to ask.
By the way, how is Asp9mm?

It's defintiely the BIG Omega Planet Ocean (45.5mm) - I have to agree the face does look like it has a blue tint but that could easily be the reflective coating and I cannot zoom in clearly enough to confirm the colour.

As does this, worn by Clooney in The Descendants.
And this LE for the Olympics is stunning.
And then they produce the Bond 50th LE version. If it is correct.
