How sure are we it is the 38.5mm as opposed to the 41mm version?

I saw both this weekend and I have to say the smaller one doesn't look any smaller than my 40mm Submariner.

Are people actually going to purchase this watch just because of the Bond connection? It doesn't feel very Bond like to me. Maybe it's closer to the Bond of the books. I can't remember for sure if he wore a watch without a bezel in the books. But this new watch reminds me of the Roger Moore days with him wearing different watches. I thought the one thing that the producers understood after Moore was that Bond should have a consistent watch.

Anyone notice the watch band Craig is wearing in the on-set interview posted over at 007.com (at 0:48 sec). It looks a little like the Connery Rolex cloth watch band.

Of course people will purchase the watch just because of its association with Bond, that's the power of marketing. If I had the money I would get this particular watch as it more of a dress watch. I think it's a nod to the Rolex Explorer that Ian Fleming wore, and didn't the literary Bond wear one as well?

    personally i look at it like this;

when i saw goldeneye for the first time i really really wanted the seamy. eventually i was able to get it and did.

now with the aqua terra mid size, these things go for around 3k. the right version aint even out yet, and the cheaper quartz alternative (which still isnt screen accurate) fetches £1700.

can i justify buying either a £1700 watch that isn't the right one but look a bit like it, or buying a 3k watch that is the right model but not the exact watch?

    no.

considering the seamy was £1100 when i bought it brand new, is capable of going to 300m and is a chronometer, i think omega are hiking the price a little too far. i know the cost of materials and production has gone up, along with everything else in the world, but 3k is just daft for a watch i wouldnt normally go for if it werent for the bond connection.

i'd rather have a rolex sub instead tbh.

    Quite.

How many of us can, particularly when one has THE Bond watch, the Roly Sub?

Unless, of course, you have a spare 3k laying about....

Well I have a Rolex Submariner, a Rolex GMT Master II and an Omega Seamaster PO 42mm so I won't be buying a £3k+ Acqua Terra. I would like a dress watch but I am likely to go for a Longines which are much cheaper...

That's what I'm getting at. Why get it just because of Bond if the item isn't that good. The Brosnan Seamaster was and is still cool. I think that it is almost the perfect modern Rolex. Especially since I was noticing a ton of fake Rolex Submariners in those days.

I remember people wanting the BMW Z3 because of Goldeneye. I had zero interest in it and thought Bond wouldn't drive one anyway. But the Z8 is cool.

We'll see how Daniel Craig wears this new watch. Both Connery and Brosnan had cool scenes with their watches. I can't remember a notable scene with Daniel Craig and the Omega off hand.

Well, he obviously wants the Sub because of Bond AND because it's that good. Where is the flaw?

I had a chat with Markus last night while cruising across the South China Sea; I love Omega watches but had to look up the AT model, totally not on my radar; and seriously water resistance to 150m and no pressure release valve, that's going to prove useless to at least 50% of us!

Yes, I don't know what I do without the availability of a pressure release valve....

    opposite to the ceiling?

my mind is made up, i'm gonna save for a second hand rolex, for me it's got a stronger connection to the aqua terra, plus we saw loads of cool gadgets in both the sub and the seamy, will we in the aqua terra? i doubt it very much.

I'm still gonna get the blue Skyfall Aqua Terra once its out... The Aqua Terra in itself is a stunning watch, simple and dressy for any occasion. And it will look gorgeous with the blue dial...

It was my pleasure (and Thanks again Pete for your assistance, it fitted perfectly :o )

Trashed on a junk in Aberdeen, who'd have thought it, see you in Wanchai this week and hopefully I'll have my 3 ropey Seamasters for you to take a look at before you leave, including the 40th anniversary; in my view the original and still the best Omega, I love the old Rolexes but for me there was always a distinct lack of remote detonator, spin cutter and lazoooor functions on them!

Looking at Omega's web site I cannot seem to find an Acqua Terra with a blue dial - has this one not been released yet?

Or have I missed it somewhere?

It hasn't been officially announced by Omega yet. There was a leak from an Omega authorised seller who put up a scan of a brochure that gives the product code for the new watch. Its back near page 2 or 3 of this thread.

Cheers! That explains it :) I have ti say I do prefer it witht he blue dial over the black, grey or silver options that are currently available. Still don't think I'd buy one but a lovely watch none-the-less.

yeah i agree, nice watch, but why shell £3k+ for a watch with the date on it, when you can have a speedmaster for £500 less, with more functions? (plus i think the speedy looks nicer)

I am considering a chronograph watch and while Tag and Longines etc. do some nice models I think I will go for the Omega Speedmaster - a true classic and good looking watch.

As regards the Acqua Terra I suppose members who really want one could consider the quartz version (I know quartz is a dirty word) in 38.5mm. These can be picked up brand new in the UK for around £1500.

    quartz???!!!

    QUARTZ?????!!!!

personally when i got my seamy, the quartz wasn't that cheaper than the pro, but these days the pricing is just daft imo.

nothing against quartz watches really tbh, but when it comes to 'getting the bond watch' i think you should get either the right watch, ie the exact right model, or get no watch at all. i see it a bit like getting a replica, as if anyone notices your shiny new timepiece and says "oh is that the new bond watch?" its either gonna be embarrassing (erm, no its not as i couldnt afford the right one) or force you to lie out ya arse (yep, sure is, exactly like james').....

i think my next quartz would be a hamilton ventura, then when people ask if thats the men in black watch (new film coming out soon, yay) i can say, yep, its the exact right watch...... (smug grin ensues)

I did say quartz is a dirty word :)) To be honest I am surprised Omega still offer quartz watches!

That said the Acqua Terra in question is grossly over-priced in the automatic version in my opinion. As you say you can buy a Speedmaster (which has more complications) or a Seamaster Planet Ocean for quite a chunk cheaper! Doesn't make sense... ?:)
