Also do not discount the possibility of this being just a rumor since this information comes from Wikipedia.

He would have been 18 years old. That's pretty young looking for henchmen - maybe he was part of the sub crew.

Just checked his official website - which references IMDB!

However the entries on his site only go back as far as 1984. - That is not entirely surprising, because most actors don't bother listing any work they have done as an Extra.

Although there is nothing to refute the possibility, I am personally more inclined to think its an error.
