Ok Am I right in saying that the DB5 in SKYFALL is not
the DB5 from Casino Royale..... Just saw one of the
latest photos of the DB5 over at MI6.co.uk and it has
BMT 214A ... Same Registration as Goldeneye ??????
or is this it with UK plates now on, after shipping it
back from the Bahamas in the FICTIONAL world of Bond
is it the DB5 he won in Casino Royale? ..... or another?
The Aston Bond wins in CR was a left hand drive car....can't tell from the photos as to whether the DB5 in Skyfall is left or right hand drive. If it's supposed to be the same DB5 as CR, Bond could have had it converted to right hand drive. Lot's of people collect and enjoy vintage classic cars...why not Bond? Also, if MI6 is in tatters, it would make sense that Bond would have to use his own car rather than an MI6 supplied and outfitted car.
I honestly think its great that the DB5 is the Bond car again.. well looks
to be getting alot of screen time by the looks of things and about time
I am looking forward to seeing where the shooting up in Glencoe was, as
I drove along these roads, last summer and the driving was fantastic
I dont think it is the same DB5 from Royale.... as stated the whole left and
right hand drive set up...... The DB5 in SKYFALL is a right hand drive, so
not the one from Royale..... and it has the same PLATES as Goldeneye, TND,
and TWINE Cameo - BMT 214A..... Goldfinger, Thunderball was BMT 216A
scaramangasgoldengun, the only picture where I can read the number it clearly says BMT 216A. Yet twice on this page you say it is BMT 214A? ?:) Is there something with your eyes - or mine? Is my browser changing the number to 216? Or are there any other photos showing the 214 plate?

Yes, this car has the registration BMT 216A, the same 1964 registration mark as the car in Goldfinger and Thunderball, as Thunderpussy pointed out earlier. The DB5 in Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies was BMT 214A.

Sorry Guys... yes ... sorry a few too many late night ) )
I was sure there was a photo kicking around when the DB5
was in London for shooting, maybe just a bit fuzzy and its
looked different to me, i do wear glasses to reading and on
computer and i seem to have miss placed them
sorry about that guys
will there be any significance to the registration, or simply
a Nod to 50 years of Bond and a tribute to Goldfinger?
wonder if the car will have any features...
I had a look around to find the photo that threw me with
this, and came across some car chat forums with comments
like ''bond is old, why are they still making them, I stopped
watching them 10 movies ago, its finished time to let it go
and move on Bond is boaring'' ) ) all that springs to
mind when you see comments like this is
50 years and still going strong, biggest film franchise in
cinematic history, the name and the number is legendary,
you stopped watching 10 films ago - Your loss! you have
missed some seriously great films, only comment on
something like Bond when you understand what its all
about Gimps!
I woulda thought the dies for the db5 models would have worn out by now, but something tells me yet another model, same colour, different plates will be appearing in a SF logo'd box.

Ah, but you forget - the DB5 has rotating license plates B-)
just having a look about online for any new SKYFALL pics of
the DB5... and if any more info has been found on its use
in the film.... I am pretty gob smacked at the amount of hate
messages I am reading regarding it being back in a Bond film!
who are these people! ...... ''Bonds DB5 and PPK are historical
and should be left in the past'' etc.... I am wondering if its even
true Bond fans that post this kind of thing....
Batman has his Batmobile......... Bond has his Bondmobile...
which will always be The DB5 in all honesty, ok we have had
other great Bond cars...... but in all honesty they dont touch
the DB5 in terms of looks, class, style, iconic status etc it just
can't be matched! .... so just embrace its star quality and enjoy
its return..... so why so many complaints around online regarding
its involvment in SKYFALL.... ????????
One thing I like with this, in the novels Bond drove his old Bentley.
it was his classic car which he owned and he maintained it etc
as a hobby car and personal car, it was a vintage model..... now
The DB5 is of a vintage now in our time as the Bentley may have
been back in the novels... so it would make sense to have bond
keep a DB5 as his hobby personal car, whats the problem it shows
a lot about the Bond character also....
I think alot of people forget that Casino Royale is technically The
Birth of Bond again.... its a fresh start, we are only on our 3rd film

But bear in mind, Bond's either 1930 or 1933 Bentley (Fleming contradicts himself) was written off in the early 50s at barely 20 years of age, had spent WW2 in storage. The second Bentley - in Moonraker - he looks at new. The third Bentley, TB-OHMSS, is barely a few years old when Bond buys it! The Aston Martin DB5 is FITFY-ish years old!
Apparently, on the drive to Scotland in SKYFALL, the DB5 is followed at a discreet distance by an AA van.
Ok, Ok ) I will put it another way Bond enjoys
vintage cars, I wasnt 100% sure of the dates of
the Bentleys in the books etc, Many errors in the
books what about Bond being killed by Rosa
Klebbs Knife Shoe ) )
) ) wouldn't surprise me, however unless the
DB5 got a flat tyre, That lot at the AA would be
stumped, scratching their heads 8-) trying to work
out what was wrong with it )
lets hope the AA van is not seen on screen, like the
white Transit Van in Braveheart ) )

Yes BMT 216A was crashed in GF, then Q branch repaired it for Thunderball.
Do they say to Craig's Bond -"Do you remember, you drove this car 48 years ago!?"
or maybe it's come out of an MI6 museum!
I thought they'd use the one with the Bahamas number plate, that he won in CR film.
its a different timeline, Bond will be on his 3rd
main Mission in SKYFALL.
Casino Royale was the first Bond Technically :007)
I agree with you that the Bahamas DB5 may have
been a better choice for continuity and a nice link
with CR and it now being Bonds personal car, if
this BMT is only a standard road personal car... then
i think it should be the one from CR however, what
if he got the DB5 from CR shipped over to the UK for
his own use I doubt you would simply leave it over
their and I couldnt see Bond selling it ) maybe thats
its new UK plates put on it, or maybe plates issued
to him by MI6 for some reason, but if its a right hand
drive none of what I said would make any sense ) )

I think EON's hope from a continuity point of view is that this car is the CR-won one, shipped to the UK, converted to a right hand drive and re-registered (albeit with a very convenient number plate!).
Anything other than that - it not being the CR one, that Bond bought yet another 50 year old car, that Q branch hold a stock of 'em gadgeted up - just hurts the head to contemplate. And is quite unnecessary.
Just read an article in collectors car world that says that the Aston used in the Glencoe shoot featured a "weapons dashboard", so we may be getting the gadgets back!
"James Bond's iconic bullet-firing Aston Martin DB5 is making a comeback in the latest 007 blockbuster. Daniel Craig drives the legendary silver sports car, armed with machine guns, in a chase scene in new film Skyfall. It still bears the same BMT 216A number plate it sported on its 1964 bow in Goldfinger, when Sean Connery played 007. The car also appeared in Thunderball, Casino Royale, Tomorrow Never Dies and GoldenEye — but this will be the first time since its debut it has been armed and used by Bond in a chase. The DB5, complete with a "weapons dashboard", was seen during filming in Glencoe, Scotland. Its return marks the film franchise's 50th anniversary. "

Makes the most sense to me. I'll throw this in for good measure. Since the DB5 was aquired by Bond while on duty as part of a mission while gambling with government money, the car technically is the property of MI6. MI6 has the DB5 transported back to the UK and it gets stashed away where ever MI6 puts stuff aquired during missions, etc. "Q" branch gets hold of the car, and for "s..ts and giggles" the new "Q" decides to rebuild this 50 year old classic, converting it to right hand drive and outfitting it for "field use". Knowing Bond's affection for the car, the car is then issued to Bond....which is also an excuse to introduce the new "Q" and have a very cool scene where Bond is given the car. So we get "Q"and the DB5 in one swift homage. Would work for me.

It makes sense, although I suspect that they wouldn't go to the bother of even acknowledging the right-hand/left-hand issue. I think they'll just assume/hope that the vast majority of movie-goers won't even notice the switch etc from CR to SF.
Or how about the car just makes its appearance and there's absolutely no explanation where it came from or how he got it? It's just a given it's there. Simple and uncomplicated. -{
