    They ignored my email mate!!

The new Sunspel is not as soft, poorly stitched and nothing like Casino Royale colour wise.

Maybe we should try contacting them as a group with our concerns otherwise we will never have this once great polo shirt again ( mine hardly gets worn because I can't replace it)

I think we should put all of our emaisl together in a list and write a common email or letter.

Good idea, I will dig out my original email and we can edit from there.

I think main reason I had no reply was because I asked where it was made. Of course Sunspel used to pride themselves with "Sunspel made in England". Now it appears to be "Sunspel England". I have no problem where it's made as long as its like the original

I was planning to add the rivera polo to my collection in this month, but I see it's not worth the shot, right? What's the chance that Sunspel will listen to us anyway? As for the rest of the Sunspel-Bond stuff, the rivera crew neck and v-neck are the same quality as in CR (i know they are also made in Turkey right now) or not worth the price just like the polo?

I ordered the Riviera navy polo and the Riviera crew neck t-shirt about two months ago. I don't know about the quality before my purchase, but I am VERY satisfied. Just about to order 2 more t-shirts and another polo.

Of course those in London can visit their flagship store near Liverpool Street, and new one in Old Compton Street.

Im glad you are satisfied (after all thats the main thing) however be aware it is nothing like the CR Film one in colour or softness

Check out the difference (Apologise for not ironing it lol)

PS - Ive bought Rivieia T-Shirts and they seem fine, its the Riviera Polo that is terrible

Here was my original email (ignored by Sunspel).

I actually referenced the other JB Forum as more people were concerned by it. If anybody wants to change it or take over let me help yourself
    Good morning,

In late 2010 I purchased a Riviera Navy "Casino Royale" Polo shirt, the fit and screen accurate colour was fantastic and it became my favorite Polo shirt.

In late 2011 my Polo had been washed so many times due to my love of the shirt that I purchased another and was very disappointed with the colour, it was more a grey dull navy then your web photo and also next to my original dark Navy Blue shirt and the material did not feel as soft. I attach a photo of them side by side the old one vs the new straight out of the Sunspel packet (bear in mind that the old one has actually faded, as you can see the colour is totally different)

As you may be aware your Sunspel Navy Riviera Polo is a classic Bond item due to it being screen used in Casino Royale, as a member of a large 007 fan forum there are quite a few people who have the same concerns, I thought I would link you to thie following online thread:

    http://jamesbondlifestyle.com/forum/showthread.php?170-Sunspel

The thread outlines the members experiences and thoughts. The bottom line is that a fair few of us would love to order more of these shirts however they are now quite different, we would love it if Sunspel could take a look into this matter and correct the shirt back to its original colour and specifications.

    Best regards

    Paul

@Welshboy78: So which one in your picture do you say is the screen-accurate one?
  • welshboy78welshboy78 Posts: 10,320MI6 Agent
The one on the left, the one on the right went straight back to Sunspel, its totally the wrong colour.

I had also bought another two Riveria, one Red and another black, all 3 were XL, all 3 fitted differently and all 3 were "rough" feeling compared to my original Navy and Black from several years ago.

I will dig out the picture but on the Navy that I sent back the shoulder had a big bubble appearance where they did shoddy seams, for 60 quid it was terrible in construction and quality let alone the colour. They have definitely cut corners, the quality used to be brilliant, now its a gamble especially fit!

It's on the left. It's not ironed so it's older. The other thing is that people here were saying that the "new version" is more "greyish" compared to the screen accurate one and that description fits the shirt on the right.

EDIT: all right, welshboy was faster :D

All right, this question may be odd, but anyway: I'm about 113cm in chest. Which size of the rivera t-shirts should I chose to get the Casino Royale look?

Yup thats correct, its like a really dull Navy, its not even close when you put them side by side! I don't expect an exact match but this was way off. However the feel of the material was rough in comparison, it was not comfortable at all compared to the original.

I sent all 3 back for a refund, I felt like I had bought a counterfeit due to the construction and material (It was really that bad)

Im a 44" chest and use XL for the Riviera - sounds like your the same as me!

What do you normally buy for T-Shirts?

Usually L. For example, when I buy the Zara t-shirts (which are perfect quality by the way) I always get the "very slim fit" in L and the're great in shape. I have no chance to try on the Sunspel clothes, because I see no sense in flying to London for just that reason ^^
  • welshboy78welshboy78 Posts: 10,320MI6 Agent
L would be far too small for me. I have a 44" chest and have big arms and chest from my workouts though, the XL fits me perfect in a fitted way. A Large would be far to tight on me!

I'm not in a great shape like Craig now so I fit in the L size :D I have small arms, I guess 36cm, so unfortunately I'm not ripped ;/ Lack of motivation for working out..

Sunspel are very good for allowing to return items for exchange or full refund hence risk is not too bad if wrong size!!

As I understand it, the color has been different for about four years (probably longer) now. When asked about it, Sunspel reps said that they deliberately changed the navy blue to a lighter shade because the CR screen accurate color was "too close to black." Having two of the screen accurate navy polos (albeit too big for me now), and a black, they are pretty darn close. So I imagine that the color is an issue that we will all just have to deal with, as James Bond aficionados are likely not their biggest customers.

As for quality, I should hope that they would be able to fix this, but I imagine that as long as people keep buying the Riviera polos, they will continue their current production practices.

Well I've only had mine for 2 years an look at the difference compared to a new one!!!

I think I read the shade had changed etc in the past however I think this new colour is a total diff story, it is really nothing like it at all anymore

Well, although a bit hard to tell from pictures, mine looks exactly like the screen-accurate one on the left on your picture. It looks like the same material and it is not grey in shade at all. As said, I bought it a couple of months ago.
    Am a bit confused now.

Mine doensn't have the same label.

    Well I also bought direct.

I think this sums up Suspel - very inconsistent!!! Im over in the UK October, think I will pay a visit to their store and select my own Riviera, ordering online I seem to get incorrect sizes and poor quality!!!

Yours def looks more correct then the one I received!!

I just bought one three weeks ago and the color is fine. I don't have a picture but it looks exactly the same as the one JacobMortenson posted. I also ordered online in a size L.

BTW, to MRZareba, I suggest going in an L. I have a 44" chest as well and my arms aren't the biggest. I'm about 6"3, 195 lb and the L fits me great. In fact, if I even bulked up a bit it would fit even better!

Thinking of this, I remember going into their flaghship store near Liverpool Street and they got very snippy when I took a photo of one, there's a 'no photo' policy. Why? I mean, if you wanted to imitate them, it wouldn't be hard exactly.

The pique polo does not have a pocket. I have an idea. If someone lives in London, maybe one could go to the Sunspel store and make some pictures or at least check out the riveras carefully. I really want that shirt, but I don't want to but a greyish version!
