Funny enough, I wouldn't really consider any of the actors who played Bond "terribly handsome": Brosnan and Connery being the closest thing to it and Connery only for his first 2-3 outings. I agree that Bond should be good looking, but the interesting thing to me is that my perception of what that means changed a bit after Craig. I originally found him incredibly average and below that in looks, and my perception changed when I saw his performance. Now I list him close to the top - I think showing that looks and perception aren't ALL external factors.
Connery and Brosnan are not terribly handsome..?? ?:)

I guess "terribly handsome" is a much different and higher category than just plain handsome. The big issue in trying to nail what this means is that, what's considered to be aesthetic pleasing changes not only among different groups (men vs. women, regional bias, maybe even socio-economic differences) but in changing standards of the times. Case in point is Christian Bale, who many consider as the perfect incarnation of Batman and "handsome" Bruce Wayne, though I disagree and think he just ordinary handsome, or maybe not quite handsome but merely good looking, if that makes sense.
I've used this analogy before, but going back to elementary school, high-school, etc., do you remember when refering to specific kids, "oh, yeah, the handsome kid from Room 2. Then I remember this Steve Martin movie, "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid," which was in b/w so that famous actors/actresses in certain scenes were spliced with the main film to make it a movie full of famous cameos; then in the scene with Cary Grant, Steve Martin's voiceover called him "handsome," which is the reputation he held in Hollywood in his time whether or not people today agree to those standards. PB and RM immediately come to mind in fitting that handle, followed by SC and GL. I don't think that TD was stand-out handsome and DC looks just like an average guy.
The trick, however, particularly having pretty boys like RM and PB in mind, is coming up with the perfect combination of "terribly handsome" with someone so cruel, piratical and ruthless enough to frighten Vivien Michaels in TSWLM enough with his appearance for her to think that Bond was another one of the cruel and hardened criminals who've been tormenting her in the deserted motel.

Craig. Girls do not care for handsome, at least not these days. They want sexy or at least hot, they like grit really and craig brings that to the table
It seems to be something that men, too, believe can somehow be distilled into a measurable, tangible thing. I've read of scientists trying to concoct half-assed formulas for beauty, for instance -- they all seem to be men. On the other hand, most women I know don't define attractive or handsome in some monolithic, prescriptive way. I think that's why Barbara Broccoli saw something in Craig so many men in the room missed (as did Dana Broccoli with Sean Connery), as did so many fanboys later. It's a combination of factors unique to the individual, regardless of resemblance to physical perfection, which itself can be culturally defined and reinforced through a limited set of repeated tropes. And thank goodness for that, as that and pity, generosity, shamelessness, and morbid curiosity have gotten me my dates and relationships over the years.
I read somewhere that desirability comes from confidence. Which explains why
Some of the ugliest blokes end up with the most beautiful women. Rich people
Seem very confident, must be why so many women end up with so many Rich
Old guys.

Brosnan, as has been said, it very handsome in a bland, generic sort of way.
He, along with George Clooney, leave me cold but I can see why they are referred to as very handsome. A classic case of 'handsome but not attractive.'
Craig, on the other hand, I wasn't fond off at all when he was first announced as Bond but he has since grown on me and I would regard as 'very attractive but not handsome'.
Dalton ( no surprise to anyone here ) I find the most attractive. His look is quite 'dangerous' which is very appealing.

totally agree, but I would switch your Craig, for your Dalton.
Dalton is up there for me, for sure....
But Craig... well I can't put my finger on it (wish I could :v ) but he has that brooding, menacing look. He wouldn't be scared of anyone, and to me, that is such a big turn on! ;%

Quoting the opening post, above. Considering that fellow AJB member DanielCraig007 is an obvious Craig fan, I applaud him for being a realist in polling Craig as the least in the Bond looks criteria. It doesn't need to be a case of the Emperor's new clothes, in which it's necessary to force individual perceptions to conform to the prevailing popular view. If I learned anything about the film series particularly at this stage, is that the role must be given flexibility in interpretation for the series to go on as long as it has and Bond's current incarnation is the boldest divergence ever taken. I enjoy DC as Bond, just as I enjoy RM in the role, and appreciate DC for his unique contribution to the character as the brooding/brutal version of Bond. I think that DC blossomed in the role when he let go the pressure to become something he wasn't and has since gone in his strength.

Daniel Craig looks far too craggy for me. He is in the best physical shape out of all of them so I guess that's something.
For me, the Bonds fit into sexy/seductive category and cheesy charmer. Craig, Connery and Dalton as Bond could plausibly bed the women in the film; Brosnan, Moore and Lazenby are comically charming but don't really have any sex appeal. Moore's flirting is just too creepy.
So my list:
Dalton
Connery
Craig
Brosnan
Lazenby
Moore
1- Nothing can compare o Lazenby in a wet dress shirt. Yummy.
2- Dalton. His eyes make me swoon.
3- Brosnan is one pretty man.
4- Craig. He fills out swim trunks well.
5- Connery also looked pretty good in tiny shorts.
6- Moore looks like a weatherman.

It's funny that how most of us men have our way of perceiving which actor would be the most handsome or attractive to a woman in our eyes, yet when a woman shares her oppinion it's usually very different than what 'we' would think.
Which is why a female oppinion like yours is actually a lot more valid towards this topic I would say. I was very suprised to hear my own girlfriend didn't think much of Brosnan and thinks Craig is one of the hottest Bonds. I would have expected Connery and Brosnan to be at the top of every woman's list and Craig and Lazenby to be dismissed immediatly. However Lazenby suprisingly enough wins it for you! Women man, they never sees to amaze me....

P.s the weatherman thing cracked me up
Craig and Lazenby both look like boxers. Lazenby even has the crooked nose (a potential bar fight?) I just can't resist a boxer. Stallone in Roky I is basically the perfect man, turtles and all.

Like I said, you need a woman's perspective to come up with stuff like this!
Out of curiousity, does that mean you also find Robert Di Niro attractive because of his role in Raging Bull?
Still I'm kind of suprised to see Connery so low on your list, I would say he fits the rough type of man you're talking about too, but then again, I don't look into details like a crooked nose, so what do I know :P
It comes down to being sexily damaged. While Connery has the boxer body type, he does not have the brooding eyes. Lazenby, Craig and Dalton have a look in their eyes that says "I am damaged and you can never have my heart." That of course makes me want them! They key is they do not come across as so screwed up that it is hopeless. Connery and PB are just too smooth. They look like they linger around sorority houses and buy chicks Goldschlager.
And yes, Di Niro, today, tomorrow, forever. Sexily damaged.

Moore, Connery and Brosnan are all very handsome relative to their ages. Dalton hasn't aged so well, and Lazenby aged like a sack of potatoes.

Dalton"s somewhere in the middle .....Probably the best looking Bond in frontal view.....in profile, the slope of his nose takes away from his looks
I don't think Craig is that good looking, but lots of chicks I know go absolutely bonkers for him....
