Ooooh. I hope so. I have been wanting a complete set on Blu Ray. I always struggle with the idea of buying these collections because they get outdated as soon as the next one comes every few years and then I wold have like 22 + new ones that don't fit in the box. But if it is a 50th anniversary set that is only intended to be up until now, I would be fine with those after the 50th anniversary being outside purchases.
While I'm happy these have finally been announced, I am annoyed that Fox is only pushing a complete box set at this time. Typical marketing but annoying for those of us who have already bought half the films on BluRay. Hopefully, individual titles will be announced as well at some point.
The preview is definitely Craig heavy - understandable since he is the latest model but still a little jarring for us old timers that grew up on Connery and Moore. And since we're nitpicking, Connery should probably occupy the center spot on the box set.
And to HardyBoy, no worries about closing my thread in the Off-Topic section; I should have checked this section before posting by my tired brain completely blanked out on checking the Bond specific threads first.
I always wonder why they play the Bond theme on trailers, yet no longer use it in the Movies.
what do you mean, they always use it in the movies.
And was it just me or was that preview very DC heavy?
The BluRay generation and the Craig generation are likely the closest linked in the series. Craig is the Bond that younger fans or techies who want BluRay are going to know and be most interested in. People who are regular modern moviegoers know Craig as their generation's box office hit, thus, to sell more of these, you have to sell to the people who are invested in the modern format of Blu Ray and the modern Bond that is still relevant. The previous Bond's will always mean something to fans, but to those more casual buyers, this set's best chance is to use that relevant star appeal.
Or so I would guess if I were marketing this. )
I thought it was a cool trailer. Craig, Brosnan, Connery, Moore, Dalton, Lazenby seemed to be the order of Most shown to least shown.
I can't seem to find it on the US amazon site. Is it only being released in the UK for now?
TonyDP, I feel your pain. I have already purchased all the Blu-ray volumes released so far. It's irritating that they are not releasing the remaining volumes too for those of us who have already bought the Blu-ray movies already released.

It's an EON tradition, always make the current incumbent look super cool, and his predessessors look a bit rubbish on the DVDs. I mean Connery ffs, pasting his FRWL pose onto one from YOLT, or is it TB? Rubbish.

I also own quite a few of the existing blu rays, however with the package working out at £4 per film it prob ends up cheaper to buy it the whole thing then to buy the missing individual releases!!

I just preordered mine. $200 is a good deal for 22 movies.

The box art is your typical photoshop mashup: unoriginal, unimaginative and composed of commonly available recycled elements; you'd think a 50th anniversary collection would warrant an original piece of art but I guess the days of hand drawn movie posters are long since past.

That works out to less than $9 per movie which is a bargain for BluRays; hopefully the Amazon.com price will go down further as we get closer to the release date (a pretty common occurrence for most compilations). It it drops below $150 I might bite as it would probably cost at least that much to get the remaining films individually.
What happens if one year after Skyfall comes out they release another BluRay set with yet more brand new extras etc? Wouldn't surprise me. I'll want to see what new stuff/extras there are on this Bond50 set before I get rid of my trusty (or rusty) DVDs

This set is the only 50th anniversary set I assume. It is more special than any update after that just keeps adding in the new one every couple years IMO. It is specifically intended to be a mark of how we got to this year, not just the regular sets that may come next to hold complete sets. I say it is likely a worthwhile purchase that can stand as a good mark of the series leading up to this year's release. Sure, there will be new stuff when new releases come, but if you couldn't convince yourself to buy until the next one, you would never buy a set. So take notice of what this one means on a new format and encompassing the films from half a century leading into the next one at the end of the year.
I would, but sometimes these Blu Rays aren't said to be so good, some flaws that need correcting in due course, so not sure about getting the whole lot. Not anticipating the upcoming ones, just that reviews of the last lot weren't unanimous praise.
It may be best to cherrypick the ones that get good reviews in terms of quality transfer.

Even a a bad Blu Ray transfer looks better than DVD, and for the price, we wouldn't be at much loss with some of them being below expectations.
I really hope they use the original movie poster art for the packaging of each blu-ray. I had the films on vhs in the 90's with the original art - it looks way better that way.
I guess this impending release is also the reason why hmv are doing two Bond blu-rays for fifteen quid right now.

That would be preferable, but I think they are into slicking the packaging up.
MGM has revealed a September 24, 2012 release date for Bond 50 on Blu-ray. Bond 50 will include all 22 films (released to date) in a 23 disc set. The final disc includes three all-new bonus features. 'First is The World Of Bond' which highlights the best moments in the long running franchise with pop-up trivia. 'Being Bond' looks at the six actors who have brought 007 to life since Dr No via interviews and clips. Finally there are the Skyfall 'Videoblogs'.
That's great news,I'm glad I pre-ordered -{
and I think the release date has been moved forward, I seem to remember reading
that it would be late October, so thats good too. )

It does look oddly sized, now that you mention it. Like they have all been unnaturally leveled out to the same height...
Moore is of course in the campiest, cookiest, "WHO'S THERE?" pose. )

He's the current Bond so he's going to get the most attention. Its just good business sense.

) Leave it to you to spot that Arthur.
BTW, did you notice that they also gave him the biggest gun? A little male overcompensation I'd say.
Sounds interesting too

Thunderball gets slated a lot by picky fans etc however it is still amazing and mind-blowing compared to any DVD release!!!
