I've just put in LALD and TMWTGG and they seem to be in the TV ratio
I've tried setting the Blu-ray to letterbox and 16:9 but the screen stays the same.
Am I doing something wrong ( I'm an old duffer ) or have we all been screwed.

The price for the Blu-Ray set has just dropped to $149.99 on Amazon.com.
I preordered through Amazon, also. (Way back when it was first announced.) But, like someone said, who knew it would be 149.99 at Best Buy? Normally, Amazon is the cheapest. Plus, by pre-ordering, we're guaranteed to get it at the very best price, which is a cool feature. I've liked watching the price keep going down over the past 2 months. And, we'll be getting the extra book that does not come with the one from Best Buy! So, to me, it's worth the little extra wait. :007)

Best Buy actually usually has the same prices as Amazon.com for the first week on these big box sets and such. Game of Thrones, Star Wars saga, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, etc. have all been priced to compete with Amazon.com during their respective release weeks.
Here is a video featuring footage from the recent seven day Blu-ray tour + the films. Also includes comments from the likes of Eunice Gayson, John Glen, and Richard Kiel.
Just bought my copy of the Bond 50 Blu ray Box.. Haven't gotten much time yet to fully watch any of the movies, I did watch some parts of License to Kill, just to see how things looked, very impressed!! - I think I am going to be watching the stuff on the Bonus disc tonight. But, I think it's a very impressive looking set, and (imo) for a very reasonable price! It could have been far more expensive...
I finally got around to opening up my new box set to check it out today. I decided I would start with the special features. I was surprised to see that nowhere on the new box set do they list what special features come on what disk. It also does not appear that they included Ian Flemings, Cubby, or Saltzman biographies. I have got to say I am kind of sorry I bought this box set rather than waiting for the remaining 3 disk box sets to come out.

Very disappointed to find the old menu designs from the Ultimate Edition DVD's on the Bond 50 Blu-ray's. You'd have thought they might have had some new designs for the 50th anniversary. Thinking there was no real need to purchase this set in particular.
Does anyone know what any "new" extras there are? Also as most of the best films are the old ones, will blu ray really be that much better than a DVD? I went to hmv to get the set but wasn't allowed to look in the box to see what is on the bonus disc. Hmmm
The World of Bond – the 007 films have a look, style and attitude that is signature Bond. From the cars, to the women, to the villains and even the music, Bond films stand apart. The World of Bond takes the viewer through the best of five decades worth of classic James Bond in one thrilling montage. The World of Bond showcases the fascinating and entertaining interplay among unforgettable moments of danger, seduction, adventure and a dash of that distinguished humor that fans have cherished from the beginning up until now. To add to the experience, The World of Bond featurette will also offer a Pop-Up Trivia option to challenge even the sharpest of fans with little known facts and interesting trivia from the Bond Universe.
Being Bond – there’s only one James Bond – but he’s proven too much for only one actor to play the role. In the franchise’s 50-year run, six distinguished actors have taken on the part and secured a spot in cinematic history. Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig each reflect on the impact and importance of taking on such a famous role. With this piece, gain insight into what each actor brought to the character and discover how they shaped the world’s most timeless secret agent.
SKYFALL Videoblogs – Behind-the-scenes look at the making of SKYFALL from the cast and crew.
Note: The Being Bond feature was a complete waste. Instead of doing a roundtable discussion between the actors (as seen with Star Trek), its just a three minute video of archived footage interview snippets.

Those two films were intentionally filmed in fullscreen as a cost cutting measure from what I understand.
It's not quite TV ratio. As with the first 3 movies, it's a bit wider than a standard TV. In fact I think these two Moore flicks are a tad wider screen than the first 3, but as you sayl not fully widescreen, sorry I don't have the ratios to hand.

If, from what i've read, the World of Bond feature is basically a "Bond-through-the ages" montage and the Being Bond snippet is rehashed old clips as well, i think i'll bypass the BluRay set. Also apparently the menu systems are the same as the old DVD's. I'm sure there will be other, better, or more "Ultimate" sets of BluRays with new extra bits in the next couple of years.

The aspect ratios for LALD and TMWTGG were 1.85:1 (also commonly referred to as a 'matted letterbox').
The aspect ratio for most modern widescreen TVs is 1.78:1; very close, which is why the image appears to fill the whole screen.
Here in the USA the individual BluRays are being sold piecemeal as exclusives to various outlets (Best Buy, Walmart and Target). Unfortunately Best Buy and Walmart have really dropped the ball on getting the discs into their stores and they were nowhere to be found in my area (online, they are also already sold out). Not sure if the individual titles were underproduced or underordered but so far their availability in the USA has been a royal cluster%$#&.
Best Buy seemed to have pushed theirs to next week for some reason. Wal-Mart has theirs available on the site, and avalable for in-store pickup on the 9th. Target had their three (TND, TLD and AVTAK) on shelves last night.
The Bond 50 box set is the best selling Blu-ray box set of 2012 with projected worldwide sales totalling $50 million in consumer spend to date. Click on the link below for press release.
Just watched Dr. No and it was very impressive compared to the last time I'd seen it. I had watched it in 720p HD in 2006, but the 1080p Blu-Ray transfer is gorgeous. Several of the outdoor scenes have really great color and texture to them.

Yeah the first batch of films are very impressive quality wise, Im no Blu Ray techie but read somewhere that the transfer scan was very high for the earlier films and then later on was reduced which is a bit strange.

By later on, do you mean later entries in the series are considered reduced?

Does anyone remember the annoying 'Activate' Button you had to press before you could even get to the DVD Menu itself?
I still love that series, the activation part was totally unnecessary but I still thought it was cool

I believe so (that's what I read)
