The first in the theater was Goldeneye. I've gone to every Bond film with Dad ever since. I've never taken a girlfriend to a Bond film, oddly, only Dad (then again, no g/f I ever had was interested in Bond...). Just sort of a ritual we have, for lack of a better term.
The first Bond film I saw period was Goldfinger. Ironically, I remembered the 1964 Ford Country Squire station wagon from that film more than the Aston-Martin DB5 because my grandfather drove a '64 Country Squire in pretty much the same color (for a deal, in 1965...the color was so "loud" that nobody wanted it and my grandfather needed a good station wagon to haul his hunting and fishing gear around in, so...of course, his car had a radio, proper hubcaps, and he removed the rear seat to make room for a fishing rod, rifle, and shotgun rack).
First Bond movie ive ever seen was Live and Let Die during a Bond Marathon, before then i was only into the 007 video games. Live and Let Die got me hooked into the movies as well.
Skyfall will be my first Bond movie in theatres. I hope they have the gunbarrel again, ive always wanted to see the gunbarrell openings on the big screen.
DAF on its initial cinema release. I was seven years old. The cinema still exists as a listed building. During the credits sequence lights were projected onto a huge revolving chandelier so that the whole cinema interior and the screen were dazzled with diamond-like reflections: I was transported and, by the final notes of the title song, I'd become a Bond fan for life.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

It was a huge, packed cinema. The chandelier effect, as I recall, was timed to start exactly with the brass stab as the camera zooms into the cat's eye and the gentle 'diamond' motif begins - the intro to Shirley Bassey's song. This self-engineered special effect by the cinema management sounds almost cheesy now, but it was totally of its time, mesmerising, and a reflection of the excitement about DAF that everyone felt.

That would have been so cool to see, seriously

I didn't become a fan of the series until 1997, not with Tomorrow Never Dies, no way. But with the video game GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64. GoldenEye, the movie, was the first I ever saw, but the first I ever saw in theaters was The World is Not Enough, I also saw Die Another Day in theaters.

The first one I remember seeing was Moonraker, which just happened to be on the TV one time during the 90'ies... I still was a very young kid during the 90'ies... Although, at that point I did know that Pierce Brosnan was the current 'real' James Bond at that time, as I saw his face on plenty of magazine's and stuff.. But I think at that point I never saw a full James Bond film yet, I just was 'aware' of him.
I remember my dad explaining to me that this was a different actor playing James Bond, and that there have been several. I was also blown away by the sky-diving opening. A little while later I got to see Tomorrow Never Dies, and more of Pierce Brosnan's movies. I think it was arround the time DAD came out that I wanted to see all of them, and got more and more intrested in the franchise. I ended up buying all of them on DVD. Over the years, (like many Bond fans) I've grown to learn a lot about the franchise, and get a far better perspective on the entire series.
Sadly enough, I have only watched one Bond film in the theatre's so far. Which was Quantum of Solace four years ago... I didn't even go to Casino Royale... I guess it was because I didn't like Craig to much in the beginning.. So Skyfall is only going to be my second Bond movie in the theatre's... Looking forward to watching a GOOD Bond movie in the cinema for once !
Moonraker was also the first movie I remember seeing. I had seen Octopussy before but it went above my head, I was very young so I only remembered the clown scenes, the backgammon game and the octopus when I saw it years later for the second time. Back to Moonraker; I was staying in a nice hotel in Amsterdam that had a movie channel and one night Moonraker was on. Me and a friend thought the movie was absolutely amazing! The free fall PTS, Jaws, boat chase, THE DOGS!!!! (I still think this is a very "scary" scene), the space parts, absolutely amazing..... to an 11 year old I remember we had a blast, we spent the entire evening jumping on the beds trying to act out the free fall PTS. (Again, 2 11 yearolds in a hotel room with boxspring beds on holiday). Did you know you can make perfect summersaults on a bed?
Although Moonraker doesn't rank very high in my top 22 (or 25) right now I will never forget the first time I saw it. It was also the reason that when a friend from school came up to me and said "Hey, tomorrow Nederland 1 airs Dr. No, the first James Bond movie and next Saturday they will show FRWL. Why don't we watch it together? I remembered Moonraker and thought it was a great idea. So, the next day we were all ready, crisps with dip, check, cola, check, all good to go! All of a sudden, Dr. No is totally different, but intriguing to say the least! The next Saturday another friend came to watch, but after that it was over.... So, what did you do in the early '90's? Exactly, you went to the video (rental) store! So every Saturday evening me and, by then, 3 of my friends watched Bond movies for 10 weeks because when we rented them we would rent 2.

Haha great story! It's funny how impressing a Bond movie like Moonraker can be to a kid! I had a very similar expierence with it. I think I was even younger back then. Just out of curiousity, were you born arround '85 or somewhere arround that time?
My first glimpse of a Bond movie was in a school bus. They put a VHS of Octopussy. Must have been around 1985. I can´t say I watched the movie in full, maybe 1/3. I don´t remember seeing it end.
Around 1987 I rented my first, A View To a Kill. Then I started watching them all. First the Roger Moore movies, he was James Bond at that time for me.
Then my dad told me about Sean Connery being the first and best James Bond. He showed me a picture of him, but in 1986 or something, and there was no way I could imagine this bald guy with the moustache playing James Bond. Then I saw the movies, of course...
First one in theatre was Licence To Kill.

Just curious, do you recall how you expierenced Licence to Kill in the theatre back in 1989? It's my favorite movie in the franchise, but sadly enough, also one of the least succesful one's... What did you think of the movie at the time?

Sure, I remember it vividly. It was july 89, and I had spent the previous year buying and watching over and over the rest of the movies in VHS, so I had been waiting for the movie to be released since it started shooting in summer 88. I followed up all the news I could find on the shooting, and I remember it was first announced as License Revoked, which was a better title IMO . I thought it was a fantastic movie , and went to see it again. It didn´t disappoint one bit. I still think it´s a great, great movie, and just grabs me everytime I watch it. Dalton is superb, Davi is so believable as drug lord it´s scary, the story is thrilling and suspenseful, and Carey Lowell and Talisa Soto are still in my top 10 of Bond girls.
Looking back, I consider LTK the last one of the original series (produced by Cubby Broccoli, with Maurice Binder titles, Richard Maibaum screenplay,...). When I saw Goldeneye 6 years later, it was a big disappointment, I could tell the difference. In TND I didn´t walk out of the theatre out of respect for the character...

For me it was Dr. No onVHS which my Dad rented so I could see it. I was already watching the James Bond Jr. cartoon on Fox, so naturally I wanted to know why this series was so popular. Thanks to Dr. No I found why. Since that period I have owned several of the films on both VHS and DVD, as well as becoming a collector of all things James Bond.

Either NSNA or YOLT about age 3. I remember a scene with Bond in a cell and a woman tied to a post outside and that was it. For YOLT I could only remember the gun barrel/blood shot for when they cut to adverts. But I remembered liking them. :007)
I don't remember seeing Bond again until I was 7, although I was very much aware of who he was. LALD was on tv and my dad got me to watch it. I couldn't understand how this guy was James Bond - he looked nothing like him. I had a devastating moment aged 8 when my dad casually said that Bond wasn't real.
This was during one of those ITV repeats and they were showing one every week. They were usually on too late for me and my little brother to stay up and watch so my dad always recorded them. My fandom developed from then onwards.
Goldeneye was the first VHS I ever bought and I remember standing in line in Woolworths with my mom and my saved up pocket money.
DAD was my first one in the cinema. I went with my brother, my dad and my friend. We picked her up from her dad's on a Monday in school holidays because her mom was at work. I was really annoyed because Bond was something special between my bro, dad and me, and I didn't really want to share it. I loved DAD at the time but haven't been drawn to rewatch it much since. Seeing 12A rated films was a big deal (I think it was my first in the cinema) and the torture scenes scared me. My main memory of that cinema visit though was one of the government THINK adverts which absolutely terrified me and gave me nightmares.
Between us, bro and I slowly collected all the boxed VHS to form the nice picture (though I'm missing DN).
Will be seeing Skyfall with my university housemates probably, only one of which has seen a few Bonds so I'm hoping they all consider my feelings when they give their verdict! )
I agree, Polar Bear... reading all these stories are great!! I find these type of threads better then the "why I hate Die Another day" or something like that.
I've never had the privelage in watching a Bond at the movies. I'm going to watch Skyfall with my dad who is a major Rm fan

I remember seeing bits of Bond films on the telly as a kid, but the 1st i remember wactching all the way through was The Spy Who Loved Me, ITV were showing them all in order on Wednesday (i think) nights back in the late 90s and i went to me nan and grandads after school and watched it with my grandad, loved it and it is still my fave bond film, though goldfinger runs it a close second.
I think the first Bond that I saw was YOLT, I remember the volcano base, and Little Nelly, I think I must have been really young, I remember watching them when they used to be on TV on a Saturday Night (in the UK). The first I watched all the way through and enjoyed to the best of my memory was LALD, it is still one of my top Bonds, and I think it was for that very reason. I am lucky enough to be able to say I have watched them for as long as I can remember.
I used to play James Bond with my GI Joes, in the late 80's early 90's, I had a dude called Snake Eyes who used to ve my Bond in the Ninja suit from YOLT, I can't even believe that I can remember that!!!
My first Bond film I watched was YOLT too. I was quite young and the only thing I remember when I came a Bond fan was the interesting Title sequence, Bond getting killed and the sea-burial.

About a year ago I asked you what got you liking Bond. I was just wondering now what was your first Bond film you watched? mine was You only live twice when I was very little, I just remember the pre-titles, title sequence, and blofeld pressing the button releasing the bridge over the prihannas. many years later, my neighbour loved Bond, I saw his car collection of the Bond cars and he was telling me about the Moore movies. Got the first Bond I laid my eyes on in the DVD rental place and got Goldeneye. Thought it was okay, a worthy action film. My dad suggested a Moore film, he use to watch them when they came out in cinemas. Got FYEO, bought it and loved it. From now on, I'm a Bond fan.
What about you?
"Dr. No" in the movie theater. Let's see, when that came out I was 24 and hooked ever more.
