Sorry, had to get that off my chest. It was made in the 70's and 80's, it was suited for that time. Just like dalton was suited for the more action, films like lethal weapon and die hard. Its not that bad. Moonrakers good, the space film is a little corny but who cares. Lois Chiles is awesome, jaws is better then ever, venice is wonderful, the villian hugo drax is so cool, cool enough to get a member copy his name its not a guily pleasure if you like moonraker, or any bond film.

I always felt Jaws in MR was just a pathetic cartoon version of his former TSWLM self. He was like the Coyote in a Roadrunner cartoon.

Old Roger was a pleasant enough fella, well-mannered, good with a quip. But compared to the other actors, especially Connery, let's face it, he was a pretty weak Bond. Nothing personal.

My confession: I recently re-read From Russia With Love for the, oh, dozenth time or so... and it wasn't as good as I remember. Tatiana is an extremely weak character and Kerim is a rapist. I guess my sensibilities are maturing.

Sorry I didn't phrase my opinion to your liking, friend, but I intended it to be only that - my opinion. I'm not suggesting in any way that my opinion is any more or less valid than anyone else's. There are plenty of folks on this site who quite enjoy Roger Moore's version of 007 and I say MOORE power to them! And I'm just as dedicated to my view that Connery was the best Bond and Sir Roger, not so much. I hope that clears it up for you.

i worked on DAD, fairly cool work, but equally embarrassing at the same time.

i've also done the daft pose at the little wooden door on westminster bridge, when it opened and this big bloke in a 'fezzy jacket opened the door, his 'oh fucks sake, not another one' look said it all.

    I once jumped the Q.

No, I didn't mug poor old Desmond. But I was at a Pinewood 007 Club bash in the 90s, and Desmond was there with first Bond girl Eunice Gayson. All the fans queued up, a line of 100 to get their autographs and I thought, hmm, do I really want to do this? Then I saw a gap in the line-up, a delay while one got an autograph and I thought, okay, I'll just nip in here, so I did.

On the other hand, I prefer to remember when folk were hassling George Lazenby a bit and he was getting a bit stressed, y'know, hey George and all that over familiar stuff. I just addressed him as 'Mr Lazenby' and he seemed to appreciate it...

Shhh, I sometimes sleep wearing my watch with NATO G10 strap and my Airsoft PPK under the pillow.

Aside from the fact that I like to take my Walther PPK out, when I'm cleaning it, and look at myself in the mirror doing one of those patented Bond poses....?

DAF, as the first Bond I saw on the big screen at age nine, remains a cherished favorite. When I moved into my own place this past autumn, I procured the DAF film poster as decoration...

Who hasn't? Even worse when someone catches you doing it. I had my GSG 5 in one hand and my mobile phone in the other, walking around like Craig at the end of Casino Royale - the postman was looking in the window as I was mumbling the iconic line - "Bond, James.. I confess that so far (since 2004) the biggest argument between me and my husband has been the second best actor playing James Bond. That was in 2009, and he preferred the polyester Bond....

I, like someone else has stated here, have felt my love for Bond slipping since QoS. to tell the truth, I saw it once and don't remember much of it. my room used to be covered in Bond posters, but now, most have come down and have been carefully stored.

I'm really hoping that Skyfall boosts my interest again.

I am also quite addicted to the Young Bond novels, and think that the're better written than Gardner's books.

This is probably my nastiest, dirtiest secret. It really doesn't have to do with the fact she's a contributor to The Man with the Golden Gun being my least favorite Bond film. . .nope, this even applies to her dancing naked in Wicker Man. . .I've just never found Britt Ekland that attractive. I don't know why. Could be because I personally prefer darker women, or just that in everything I've seen her in she's just gosh-darned terrible as an actress. . . So be it: if all tastes were the same, this would be a boring world!

Well, I tend to agree with that, BN, esp about the lack of the vision thing.

I'm not sure if Bond is a good role model. I mean, he doesn't have any mates does he? We never see him in a situation where has to resolve a problem through group discussion or anything, it's just him steamrolling his way through.

That's because the film's show the character from a narrow point of view
in his life. They only show him when he is on his missions and that is when he has to be the most emotionally removed from normal life and focused on his profession. In the Fleming novels, he actually looks forward to these missions, since they not only take him abroad, but remove him from the weekly grind of office paper work and meetings. He probably got some relief from his constant physical maintenance training and target practice, etc., and he does have at least one friend - Bill Tanner, who he plays golf with. There are also his constant affairs with married women as well (something Fleming was familiar with). As far as a role model, he was never supposed to be. Fans want to be like him only because of what he wears and because he gets to have great gadgets and cars and women, etc. In reality, we would not really want to be him since it could mean dying a painful death at any time, never having any meaningful relationship or family (if you don't count his May/Mrs. Doubtfire maid) and in fact, just being a tool of the government.

Yes, I see what you mean but the wit and way of carrying yourself one might try to pick up from Bond, and by inference, his other characteristics. I don't think one sits in the cinema seat thinking, hey, I don't want to be like that.

Despite being a Flemingist who prefers darker, more realistic Bond films, I have an odd soft spot in my heart for OP. While it's essentially a remake of GF and has some truly silly moments (Tarzan yell, anyone?), there's quite a few scenes I just really enjoy. Plus, I've been a fan of Louis Jourdan since his performance as Dracula on the BBC.

On the flip side, FRWL is not one of my favorites. I have two main issues with it: 1. Connery's performance always struck me as a bit off. I can't put my finger on it.... 2. None of the big set-pieces—gypsy camp fight, helicopter chase, boat chase—worked for me. I don't think they were well-staged. The fight with Red Grant was of course fantastic, but I really think Terence Young wasn't at his best with huge action sequences. And the final chase scenes really felt tacked-on, which they essentially were.

Agree on your take on OP. If they had nixed the slapstick and had Moore dressed as any other circus performer other than a clown, this would have put the film further up on my favorites list. I liked the villains in the film as well, as they came off as being more realistic. Your right about FRWL, though it is still one of my favorites because it sticks close to the novel. I also think the large action pieces could have been better staged, and the non Fleming sequences you mentioned were just mindless and unneccesary. I always had a problem with some of Connery's performances as Bond, in many cases he seemed too cool - as if he knows he will survive without a scratch no matter what and he is superior and arrogant to everyone around him. I never thought he was all that convincingly seductive with the women either, as if he didn't really give two hoots for any of them. I suppose this was the cool, casual playboy mentality they were trying to sell to the public, but to me it always came off as being callous and shallow. I never got that from the other actors -
Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan or Craig. Granted, Craig uses the killer's wife in CR in order to get info on her husband, but you can see he regrets her death even though he wont admit it to M, but not as much as Fields death in QOS. I suppose his compassion was less for the killer's wife because he saw her like a mob wife - she should have known to be married to a character like that meant your life wouldn't be worth anything, and that it makes her almost like an accomplace to any of his dirty deeds.

When I first watched MR (I was 9) I thought that the one who'd got attacked by dogs was Holly Goodhead, so it simply meant she's been licked and mauled a bit before being sent on her way again.

A passing similarity, I'd say that women seemed more like Honor Blackman when I was growing up, we had a school librarian a bit like that, it's more the Tinto Brass or Edward (or is it Eric) Stanton world. Take care googling those names at work. Sort of like Mariella Frostrop without the girliness.
