Are the financial cutbacks that drastic?
Let's hope Pinewood is still able to deliver the magic.

Seems incongruent with cut price locations. Personally I feel that on balance I would quality performances from a top notch supporting cast.
I do wonder why when the take from the last two was so high is there a feeling of a squeeze?
When asked I recall a sheepish Wilson saying that the budget was ' about the same as the last one'
It's begining to )
It may be true about budget cuts but this is nothing new, I'm sure the people in control will be able to get the best out of the situation.
That's about all you need to know about the credibility of the article. The British tabs are still reporting that Naomi Harris is playing "Moneypenny". This one is at least a new made up story. Truth be told, some of the finest films ever made were created on tight budgets and some of the biggest pieces of garbage bombs had huge bloated budgets. No amount of money can make up for a poor script and bad acting. As far as the reliance on "special effects", movies have been using matte shots and composits for years to create locations. This past August on a trip to Pittsburgh, PA we watched them shoot scenes for "The Dark Knight Rises" in 90 degree heat with fake snow falling and on the ground....I guarantee that it will look totally convincing on the big screen. In fact, the Gotham City we see in the Batman films is actually a composit of pieces of Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA and London along with a bunch of matte creations.
too seriously,Then again there might be a building they need because it looks like somewhere else.
As for cut Backs. I doubt they'll be spending as much as on QOS, But I'm sure they'll have a
Healthy Budget.
My worry is more of green screens and sunsets! The worst shot in Casino Royale is on Le Chriffre's boat when his lovely lady is getting out of the water, the green screen inserted sunset out the window is awful. I am sure location doubling will be fine, I just worry when they try to create a different lighting or background scenario that wasn't present on set. I might just be silly, but I feel like it is pretty noticeable when a scene is made up of CGI backgrounds and color altered lighting.

I would much rather the money goes into the performances and the script than the locations, especially considering that landmarks aside, landscaping (beaches, forests, hills etc.) can be filmed locally and perfectly successfully be shown to be an exotic locale.
Also with the GFC and the spectre of GFC II it is great for British jobs and British communities for Bond to be as homemade as possible without detracting from the story and finished product.
If I was a married man with kids on the crew of Skyfall, Bognor is a much more family friendly commute than some far away, jet lagged venue… work is work. I have travelled for work extensively and have to say it really only appeals when young, free and single.

Yea, well I'm no meteorologist, but I'm told that it will get worse if the Gulf Stream moves south as projected.
LOST (TV Series, 2004-2010) mastered location doubling very well. They used Oahu for almost every foreign scene they needed. They made several different beach locations work, caves made in a nearby soundstage, and nearly ten different cities and locations from around the world all using tricky angles and nondescript areas of Oahu. The only time they actually travelled from their normal locations on Oahu was to LA to borrow another ABC show's set, and then to London because one actor had a scheduling requirement that required he stay there.
Again, I have no worries about doubling locations. I just hope they don't try to make lots of lovely orange sunsets by replacing the backgrounds with CGI and amping up the orange in post production. I agree they do just fine many times, but I really dislike the times when you can just tell they enhanced a standard scene to change the look of the location.
To be honest I just watched MI 4 today, whilst the film was generally well done (it was about 30 mins too long for my liking), the CGI incorporated into the Dubai scene was quite poor.
Also the ending in India was a step too far (rather the film ended in Dubai) and seemed an excuse to cram in another exotic location for the hell of it.
Im not too bothered about fancy locations, nice to see the Bahamas and stuff but wouldn't care if half the film was in UK or if they fool us. I never realized Uganda was the UK in CR (makes sense as the scene was not difficult to pull off, but I never even thought about it)
I'm glad someone said this, and saved me the trouble. Cheers, M5 {[]

Sad to see, after QOS made ALL that Money. :v
Agreed. Loved the description of QOS though as " a wet fart", the consensus including DC's comments is that it really was a Turkey. I was starting to doubt it myself as there have been a number of very spirited defences.
Is the Guardian to be relied upon as more reliable than any of the other rags in the light of recent event?
