Alternate fire truck escape in AVTAK

Was in downtown San Francisco recently and was wondering, was AVTAK Bond's first visit to San Francisco? And would he have been briefed on the geography or who to contact for help in case he were captured or arrested by local police?
I ask because after Bond made his getaway with Stacey from the SFPD in the fire truck after escaping from City Hall, they had to elude police by driving over the 3rd Street Bridge down by China Basin. But it turns out the British Consulate-General is located at 1 Sansome Street at the corner of Sansome and Sutter just off Market Street less than a mile away from City Hall. Bond could have easily made his escape there and the SFPD would have been unable to pursue him further.
Would this have been a feasible alternative for Bond to escape? Would he have been briefed on this or should he have known where his consulate was before leaving for San Francisco?

Of course, in that case he probably shouldn't have introduced himself to SFPD as being British Intelligence, either. Moore was getting senile, I guess...
Heh well Bond could have hijacked a police car instead and instead of the bridge jump could have given us a classic San Francisco "cars-flying-over-the-hills-at-70mph" chase
He could stolen a 1968 Ford Mustang with a V8 engine, green is a nice color.
