Tried the Marko, didn't like them for me, the QoS ones were smaller, better fit.

Persols are the best. I've owned TF, OP and have never found any of them to beat the quality of the Persol glasses.

Aren't OP supposed to be the very very best? (After Loro Piana, obviously)

Possible alternatives : OP Benedict 59 (photocromatic) ; OP Copter (polarized)

Will TF's have a special treatment?

    I agree with you..
i own OP and i think they are soo awesome.
i own persol and i also think they are great but i prefer my OP
The thing i dont like about one or two of my persols such as the 2931S is that it keeps slipping off my nose because of how smooth it is.. i had to heat the temples to curve them under my ears to fit better and it still slips just glad it stopped falling off my head and getting dents from hitting the grown.
but its just that style which i have in polarized tortoise and then my everyday pair of black 2931 prescription sunglasses.
the only pair that never slips off my head from persol is the 0714.
But i would chose my OP benedicts.

I know what you mean.. tried the Marko on in Neiman Marcus before i bought them online for cheaper hehe.
I tried on the Tom ford williams also and they were too wide.. and the tf 108 for QoS was the smallest and it fit on the small side for me but maybe thats how its suppose to fit because it looks the same size ratio on daniel craig.

I hope you'll excuse my digression, but right now I'm thinking I should get OP Sheldrake for me.. I think Pierce Brosnan could've picked those.. Though they are a bit expensive at 430$ retail... Even more expensive than TF!

The Benedict also comes in a size 57, which is closer to the QoS size. I've tried the 59 and 57 and much prefer the smaller. You can get whatever lens you like from the OP stores with no upcharge other than fifty extra for polarized.

The Copter is much larger at 62 I think it was. I had one on approval but returned it as it was huge on me, and I have and like the Farrell 62. Really cool detail on the Copter though, wish they made a smaller one.

I have the regular Persol 714, bought and sold the limited 714SM(McQueen version), and have tried the 2931 and though they're nice, for me they're nowhere near the quality or fit, lens or frame, metal or plastic, of OP(admittedly I don't have any of the newer Luxottica owned, made in China OP's, mine are all made in Japan). Now I'm not saying OP is the end all be all of glasses by any means, but they're up there.

As far as Loro Piana, never tried them but the lenses are supposedly pretty special. Celluloid frames are interesting since "plastic" frames have been cellulose acetate for decades. None of the frames I've seen jump out as being very attractive. But for me, I'd say real tortoise shell Maison Bonnet would be several steps above Loro Piana, even if there's nothing in between. First purchase when I win the lottery that I've never played.

You won't be sorry. I've got several pairs of OP O'Malley sunglasses and two Riley opticals. Love them all.

One thing though, if you're thinking of an acetate frame, I just got a custom Schnuchel from my optician. Picked a standard Schnuchel frame, made a couple of changes and adjustments, picked the color I wanted, and they made the frame in about three weeks. $275. I'm sure they have something like the Sheldrake available.

Classic acetate frames are definitely my favorites. That's why I love the real tortoise frames so much.

Not much to see clothing wise in the trailer... only the two suits we already saw plus a tuxedo... Perhaps there won't be a lot of different outfits this time!

I was hoping the Turkey scenes would bring more casual wear but he still appear to be in a suit.

It'd be nice to know how many pairs TF did last time and how many they'll do this time around. Probably way more because the brand is well established now and has way more outlets.

Personally, I'd wait, though you'll undeniably get some pretty glasses even if they're not screen used but still possibly worn by DC on set, regardless of build quality and value for money.

Why would you buy them now? Wait for the James Bond edition, they will keep their value.

Unless you want a pair of shades without JAMES BOND stamped on them?

Might be of less value, sure - though I'd hope no one on here buys stuff purely for investment reasons - but they'd be more subtley in keeping with Bond without his name on the side.

I'm not particularly fussed about having James Bond written on the side or anything but I do want to ensure that I get the right model – I'll await official confirmation. Personally while I don't do it myself, I'm not at all bothered if people buy the glasses with James Bond on them as an investment – it's shrewd considering the extraordinary prices I've seen paid on eBay for the QoS sunglasses.

Just wait and get the 007 branded ones. They will be worth a lot more in the future like the current 108s going for over $500 on eBay

I tried on the Tom Ford Marko yesterday. Retail was around $400. They were the silver frame with the dark smoke lenses. I actually like them more on me than the QOS ones. Nice fit and great clarity. Time to shop around online.

    Sorry, double post
  • welshboy78welshboy78 Posts: 10,320MI6 Agent
Not going to wait for the 007 version to be released soon??

Might be worth it for resale value going by the crazy TF108 19Vs. They might also be a tiny bit different too

I don't care too much if I have the exact ones. I like the style and would rather have a pair I want to wear on a daily basis.

Hi Welshboy, I don't think that will happen this time, I think everyone has wised up to this. Both everyone on here who will now definitely buy the glasses and also TF will most likely double the production they had for the older QoS 108s. They are not likely to miss this opportunity to make more money.
