"On the brink"? Obama's bombed more ME countries than even W did.
Are you thinking number of individual sites as opposed to total deaths or explosive tonnage?

I think he means the number of countries bombed by Obama: Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan. As far as I know Bush bombed Iraq and Afghanistan, possibly Pakistan.

Also, I think most of the GOP candidates seem comparatively sane. I would say Trump, Cruz and Carson would give me sleepless nights.

I'm aware that the Obama Adm. has carried out drone strikes.

I'm not sure how many countries have been bombed under Obama.

But I was talking about getting into a large-scale war in the ME.

As an observer, I think most candidates say what they think their voters
Want to hear, but if elected they'll tone down the claims.

it's not very surprising that Clinton and Sanders finally really attacked each other after Iowa, or at least Clinton did. Iowa made it very clear she really could loose to Bernie.

It was a relief to me that this election woun't be Clinton vs Bush. There is still a high probability that Clinton will be nominated, but the question is more of now when Jeb Bush will give up.

I admire his honesty. He's a socialist, and makes no bones about it. I sincerely hope he gets the nomination.

A Star Trek-type socialism is the only way out of this mess IMO. Rich people should be the ones with the most toys, not the most say in government.

I haven't seen enough Star Trek to know their brand of socialism, so I can't really get behind it. But I suspect part of the reason Sanders is so popular with younger voters is that they are too young to remember the cold war. During the cold war the socialist were seen as representing the enemy (here in Europe we narrowed it down to the communists), but young people have never had a far left enemy (no, Obama doesn't count :D ), not even China is really communist anymore. Instead many worry about the gap between the rich and poor and the vanishing middle class, the cost of education and healtcare etc. Bernie Sanders would not stand a chance in the 1980's.

BTV: when was the last time the US had a president with glasses? Or with all-white hair at the time of election? Or with a regional dialect so strong even foreigners notice?
I really want to know :)

Socialism in the 23rd Century is that everyone has the right to live, eat & reside somewhere. Work is to afford luxuries. Basically.

A lack of knowledge of history (and history fraudulently presented to today's youth) is crucial to the success of the modern socialist aspirant.

I disagree. If you had written 'communism' I would be aboard 100%. That ideology is oppressive, bloody and vile. But socialism spans everything from Josef Stalin to Tony Blair. From countries people risk their lives to get out of (East Germany, Cuba etc) to countries people risk their lives to get in to (Sweden, Germany etc).
I don't think there is much accurate history that would scare most young people away from social democracy.

'Socialist' ist the most often abused term in US politics.

It contains 'social' and can have very good sides but the more Conservatives connect it with communism - by ignorance or purpose

Oh, I didn't mean we need to scare people away, just that a good knowledge of history is an absolute necessity for avoiding repetition of mistakes.
In fact, every democracy is a social democracy- it's just to what level is the socialist part is incorporated. Do we care for each other as we would like to be cared for ourselves, or are we all animals in the jungle just here to take what we need (or merely want)?

No, but I got the sense that you and Loeffelholz think socialism is dependent on ignorance or false history to succeed. I think social democracy is less dependent on that than most other systems.

    "That suicide is painless
    It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please." :)

You see, socialism and communism are like fingers and thumbs: all communists are socialist, but not all socialists are communists.

On the contrary, I think a working socialistic democracy requires an educated populace. Which is why they work so hard to dumb us down in my country. Divide the populace & conquer. Educate the populace and they unite in their common interests (the rich mostly hate that..).
Thing is, there's a kind of limit how rich you can be in a world that's fair; you can REALLY clean up when anything goes though (de & non-reulation).

    God damn hippies !

On a political point. I do find it funny that even though we are in the 21st
Century, with TV coverage, internet and other various media. Political
Parties still feel the need to have their candidate, travel all over the country
Shaking hands ( although not kissing babies, these days )
Even over here, one of our local political parties tried to stop the use of posters
On street lamps etc, but sadly none of the other parties wanted to play along.
So now we're going to have half a dozen posters of various grinning idiots all
Over the place for months. :#
