Damn it all to hell. I was trying to hold out on this one for a while. No dice! I've always wanted an accurate FRWL SPECTRE ring even more so than the Thunderball/YOLT style. Even spent some serious cash way back when having one custom made. Looks like I'm going to have to plunk down on this one! Now if you could only make Moneypenny's hat rack for my Lock Sandown trilby. While you're at it, how about the Goldfinger Lockheed Jetstar peephole clock that was also used in Thunderball's Shrubland's "rack" room. How about Donald Grant's watch?

So, what sharp little eyes you've got...wait till you get to my teeth.

Well Mr Grant's watch is on our list of potentials, but we have two sticky legal issues with it. Because we have a duty to protect ourselves and the brand from liability.

I know it's stupid, but there are sadly some pretty litigious people hanging around at the shallow end of the gene pool and its too great a risk to take. As a term of our license we cannot do anything that might cause damage to the brand so even if we were willing to take the risk, which we are not, it would get nixed by the licensor.

The only way to make it would be to include some form of 'safe garotte' feature (that's the funniest thing I have typed all day) A breakaway type design that would allow it to be pulled in and out, but not pulled taught could work. It would also need to be of a safe material certainly not wire! This of course would not be screen accurate and would require some engineering thought. I am just not so sure it would end up being all that satisfying as a replica.

Additionally we cannot replicate any existing brand names so it would have to be a no-name watch. The maker is little known but their trademark protection exists and again the risk is not permitted. Replicating actual watches is for obvious reasons frowned upon and causes all manner of legal headaches. Again because the name is not blatant or particularly germane to the prop it would not be a huge issue I don't think, but needs to be considered.

For these reasons Donald 'Red' Grants watch is fairly low down on our list. I welcome any thoughts or ideas however.. a problem shared and all that.

Barry, first thanks for a response. As for the watch brand, the movie watch appears un-branded. However, you may have access to what in fact was used. I don't think the watch still exists at EON but the blueprints and pictures probably do. But again, in terms of what is seen on screen, un-branded would be fine. The book watch was a Girard Perregaux, but it wasn't used on screen. As for the actual garrote, I would think you could get away with string with a certain breaking strain. However, I use a biometric card to get in and out of my office. At one point it was attached to a monofilament reel. Such reels are sold everyday with no restrictions despite the fact that it could be used to strangle someone. Magic and joke shops also sell them too.

Nevertheless, I do get what the issues are. So what about the Goldfinger/Thunderball clock, or the Monypenny hat rack that Bond always threw his trilby on?
