Although nowadays he is mainly a supporting actor, my all time favourite film star is Michael Caine.

Daniel Day-Lewis allways delivers first-rate acting. Jennifer Connelly is one of the best actresses today. There are some more actors/actresses who I like to follow: Michael Fassbender, George Connelly, Robert Downey jr, Angelina Jolie etc.

Oddly enough, there aren't any movie stars that give me that feeling, like hey! gotta see this film. Clooney is good but a lot of them seem a bit watered down or have to do some pompous art house thing that winds up being a bore. At least you knew where you were with Arnie and Bruce.

If you're talking true "movie stars", no one will ever equal Cary Grant, IMO. Probably Brad Pitt is the closest for me.

If you're talking about my favorite actors, I would have to say Don Cheadle, Tom Wilkinson and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

    Can I say Daniel Craig?

You may, but only in answer to a different question! :p

Actually, Craig has star potential, but imo it hasn't been realised as yet, and that's the fault of the studios slightly. They haven't got the right context for him. For real stardom, you have to find a breakthrough role of the kind Bogard found, you can't just shoehorn them into roles. Harrison Ford was a good example. Without George Lucas, I simply can't see him as a star. He needed Hans Solo, he needed Indiana Jones. I saw him in Force 10 from Naverone briefly, he was just bland dullsville. Ditto Kevin Coster, v dull in The Bodyguard and generally a rather bland look and persona, but he acquired stardom in things like The Untouchables because he nails what it is that makes his persona appealing, and sticks to it.

Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Day-Lewis, Young Sean Connery, Gene Kelly, Warren Beatty, and Daniel Craig are my favorites.

Very pleased when I heard Fiennes joined the cast of Skyfall. Two of my favorites in one Bond movie!

I'll get back to you with some women :))

    NOT Angelina Jolie!

EDIT: Faye Dunaway and Eva Green are some overall favorite ladies.

    Steve McQueen.

I need to add: the topic was movie "star". Steve McQueen fits that perfectly. I have many favourite actors, but nobody is up there in the same way. The guy was über cool. He did what he wanted, threw pages of script away in favour of raising a single eyebrow. He was an ensemble actor for the Magnificent Seven, but made the role his own by getting into every scene and doing something subtle. It drove Yule Brenner mad, but they ended up keeping his stuff in. Frank Sinatra offered him a place in the Rat Pack after acting with him. He declined. Who would have done that back then? A real star in the making, that's who. And what's even cooler, he was happiest driving and riding bikes. The acting merely allowed him to do that.

Leaving aside dear Roger and the other Bond actors. :D

My favourite current movie star is Matt Damon. I first saw him in The Talented Mr Ripley and took an instant liking to him. The Bourne films and The Departed cemented my appreciation. My current favourite female star is Uma Thurman. She definitely has that "wow" factor.

As for favourite movie star of all time? I couldn't name one as I have too many favourites including Humphrey Bogart, James Stewart, Gregory Peck, John Wayne, Jack Lemmon, Richard Burton, Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day, etc, etc, etc.

Did you catch 'Hereafter'? A rather sentimental film with him as a 'reluctant psychic' - I caught this on TV a few weeks ago, and it was unexpectedly touching.

I went to see The Big Miracle with my 6 year old at the weekend, and I saw the trailer for 'We bought a Zoo' starring Matt Damon.... I really want to see this movie....it looks rather good!

Hereafter, as you prob know, was from the bare bones of a Peter Morgan script, he who had first draft of Skyfall and also did Frost Nixen and Damned United.

I have only seen the trailer for Hereafter. Now that you have reminded me I will look out for the DVD. And also Invictus which I have yet to see.

I am not one for the cinema. The last film I saw was Casino Royale. Too easily distracted by noise and I also have back problems. Nothing major but enough to make me uncomfortable when seated for more than an hour. I will make the effort for Skyfall as I do not want to miss out on the debate.

In terms of classic but still active actors, I'd say Clint Eastwood, who can still cut an imposing figure at 80+ and Harrison Ford who can still be enormously entertaining given the right vehicle.

In terms of younger actors, Johnny Depp is probably the most versatile guy around right now. Hugh Jackman can be an entertaining action hero when he isn't playing second fiddle to kids and robots. Michael Fassbender has the potential to be another really versatile star.

I watched The Fighter the other night. Christian Bale is a seriously good actor. He played the uptight, crack addicted hasbeen perfectly. One of the best "acting" performances I've seen in years. Up there with Daniel Day-Lewis for sure.

Out of current actors I love Robert Downey Jr, Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, Johnny Depp, Ryan Reynolds and Ewan Mcgregor. I enjoy Meryl Streep, Steve Carroll, Samuel L Jackson and anyone who is funny. :))
I also really love Daniel Craig, not as Bond, in his films. Must I say I was very happy hearig his voice as a villian in a Tin Tin, a weird feeling of satisfaction! :D
