Bond fans! Check out 007.com, at 0700 GMT this Weds, for Sam Mendes' first SKYFALL videoblog: "The roots of my doing this Bond movie start way before anybody approached me because, like everyone else, I have my own personal relationship with Bond which began when I was I suppose about nine or ten years old. I’ve always been a fan of the movies."

Moore Than

Sam Mendes comes across as very approachable and pleasant. As expected little is revealed here. A scene with Bond in Shanghai (0.45), a scene with Tanner? and M (0.56) and a scene at an airport (1.04).

Mendes is clearly a fan and has worked with Daniel Craig before. It does not mean he will direct a great Bond film but I believe there is reason for optimism given what has been revealed to date.

Have to agree. I am quite excited about seeing this movie - Being a fan of Bond since he was about 9 years old is encouraging too. Making the film reflect things that are going on in the world toaday is a plus also. I think wa shall see a movie that will be a good blend of Fantasy and realism and will serve Daniel Craig well. -{

Is it Ralph Fiennes at 00:52 ? With grey hair and a tie, in the foreground of the image ? And I also think it is him at 1 min
Do we see the first appearance of Ola Rapace behind Sam Mendes in the crowd scene? Or is my mind playing tricks on me? Close cropped hair, grey jacket, open neck maroon shirt?

Unless my eyes are playing tricks that does not look like Ralph Fiennes in the first two screenshots but that could be him in the third with Judi Dench.

I noticed with interest that he 'bigs up' as the kids say CR and Daniel, but not a word about QOS

Positive signs I hope!

I know this is jumping WAY ahead, but in DVD terms I hope Mr Mendes has a big part of the audio commentary if his narrative style here is anything to go by. I also love the fact that QoS is not name checked but CR, Mr Craig, and Mr Campbell all are. I remain cautious, but I like to think this is a director who understands the core elements of Bond that work, using Mr Fleming's writing and Mr Craig's strengths in the role as the primary templates.
