HELP NEEDED with title of this medieval sci fi type film!

I watched this film back in the early 90's on tv on a sunday afternoon had a cool castle in it and of what i can remember some sort of time traveller with a chimp and they go to the medieval times! I never saw all of it and i really want to know what its called so i can see it and clear this remembrance of it from my memory. One key bit i remember is they try to burn him on a fire but as hes wearing his spacesuit survives and plays a game of chess or something. Anyway think Julian glover is in it as the king but can't be certain, be great if anyone can remember this film that i've never seen on tv since!!!
