Don't you think that James Bond falls too easily in love?

Title says it all. I feel like there is a big difference between seeing a beautiful woman as a pursuit and trying lots of things to get her, and falling in love and compromising yourself and the mission for her.
If you can't trust a Swiss banker, what's the world come to?

Only with Vesper. The rest are good for him, but he doesn't give them much besides banter and charm. After Vesper, the big part of Bond that makes him worthy of being a 00 never really goes into his relationships again. It is sort of as deep as a companion fling, not the love of his life.

    Or so I interpret.

He did get married, yes... So see what I mean.. I'm not sure what to make of him. Womanizer who found this one love but it didn't work and now it's back to being cold and heartless ?

Not at all. In the Fleming novels, he fell in love three times: Tracy, Vesper, and Tiffany Case. Two ended up dead, the other relationship just imploded.

Bond is hard and ruthless, but he isn't a psychopath. He can't keep his guard up all the time. With the right woman, under the right circumstances, his guard comes down. This opens him up to love, which leads to tragedy and pain, and the guard goes right back up again. I don't consider this inconsistent, merely human.

I always felt that Fleming's Bond had a romantic and emotional side he kept well under wraps, partially due to his profession, and partially because it didn't want to be vulnerable. This took its toll on Bond in many ways: he broke down in tears at the end of LALD, was a total wreck after OHMSS, and was often under the watchful eye of the MI6 psychiatrist.

He came very close with Gala. Thought about marriage and settling down. In the end she decided against him and went back to her Policeman Boyfriend.

I wasn't sure if I should include Gala Brand or not, but you bring up a good point.

I always thought he falls in love too easily in the books. In the films its skirted over and trivialised really.

Is On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) and Quantum of Solace (2008) the only movies that end with James Bond not making love or kissing the lively Bond girl?

You just got yourself a bottle of Champagne Bollinger, if I had one. You're right. I wasn't thinking after midnight.

And in Pearson's biography, Bond is back with Honey Rider.
