Usually I would expect the film's protagonist to discover something about himself or complete a character arc thru the course of some bigger conflict.
In Blade Runner 2049 there seemed to be no real pressing situations facing this dystopian society. There was virtually no drama whatsoever other than Ryan Gosling trying to figure out if he is a human or a replicant.
the larger situation facing society seems to be that replicants can now procreate. Jared Leto thinks this will somehow save his company a lot of bother, they will no longer have to expend labour and resources on a replicant assembly line. But... replicants spontaneously exploring their feelings for each other, having replicant intercourse, nine months of pregnancy, then 20 years of physical maturation would be much less efficient numbers wise than cranking out an assembly line product day in day out, regardless of saving a few pennies
they all do seem to think this will somehow change the structure of society on earth, to human disadvantage
I think the Leto character's obsessions may make a bit more sense (philosophically) if you compare with Scott's two new Alien films, which are more interested in the android lifeform than the alien. The opening sequence of the last Alien film could have just as easily been from Blade Runner as Alien.
The concept of memory implants have already been pretty well discussed in Total Recall.
are there any other examples of Philip K Dick concepts, perhaps from other books, snuck into this new film? I kept looking for versions of the Electric Sheep, or Mercerism, but didn't see either
This is a good point considering every other woman in the film hits on him in some way
so he's got issues relating to his fellow replicants and can only get aroused by a hologram, who hasn't had that problem? as for the human police chief, she was his boss! maybe he felt he was being sexually harassed by a workplace superior and that made him uncomfortable
Added some new things to my Blade Runner 2049 collection:
1. Hot Topic Blade Runner 2049 T-shirt
2. The art and soul of Blade Runner 2049 book
3. Limited 1st edition BR2049 score
Finally got the Johnnie Walker 2049 edition. It had been stuck in Bonvu since 2017 since they couldn't post it to me. I had to wait until my trip and mailed it to my US hotel!
Kind of wish I bought one to drink and one to keep sealed! Anybody drank theirs?

Glad you got it! I was lucky enough to get 4 bottles. I drank one last year and haven't opened any of the other 3 because I want to savor it and also I've been drinking other things. I was already a fan of JW black but this rendition is smoother and smokier. It's sad that its such a limited item because its a great whiskey and the bottle design is beautiful. Do you have the Blade Runner tumbler glass for when you do drink it?
Cool - you got 4 bottles! How much was retail originally in the US?
Its my 40th in September and my wife keeps nagging what to get me. Suggested the Cibi BR glasses so I will save the bottle until then )
Despite owning a load of diff bottles, I drink Black Label most the time since cheap here and save the others for better occasions
I think they were around $75 when first released. Now of course the remaining bottles are fetching ridiculous prices. Definitely save it until you get the Cibi. It feels wrong to drink it out of any other glass )
