I was going to invite you compare our over analysis of the Bond clip with that of the Paul McCartney website forum, where fans go into detail over his Hey Jude mishap. Namely, that he was coming in over a dubbing track too early, so we heard two Pauls for the first 20 seconds, at odds with one another, then cut the dubbing and went with Paul's now wobbly voice live!
But oddly, the entire thread seems to have vanished from his official website!
Regarding DC's "walk" it appears we now have a new addition to the Bond canon: the "walk". This discussion/critique of the "walk" would actually be right at home in an episode of "Seinfeld" and it would be a funny episode at that.
Here's my take on DC's "walk" in the opening ceremony clip. I actually think that Craig's take on the "walk" in this case is not the Bond "walk" at all; what Craig is doing here is actually marching. Being ex-military and given the honor/mission of escorting the Queen he is actually marching through Buckingham Palace like a soldier would. Craig probably figuires Bond wouldn't glide through the Palace looking like a panther hunting its prey; he's not there to assasinate Her Majesty but to escort and protect her.

It could be his Bond walk, after all, in the first two movies he wasn't really Bond, he was still meant to be warming up to it. So now he's Bond, as he will be in Skyfall.
Those Corgis in slow motion are meant to be in love with Bond, although that presupposes they are both female.
Homage to FYEO, in the copter going past the Houses of Parliament, geography a bit dodgy though, a fair bit later it's seen going past the Eye, but they're quite close to each other.
Another homage is the gaffe we had in FYEO where it goes from night to day very quickly as Bond runs up the steps and kills Locke. Here it goes from daytime to night too quickly.
Having been in similar surroundings to meet similarly eminent people myself before, I can say that I almost certainly walked like a 'pressure-treated two-by-four'. Even the coolest, most non-fussed professional struggles in environments like that, and most people don't have a camera crew filming every step either!
That's where I've seen it Before. When people meet me they walk the same way. )
I can understand what you Mean after all "It's the freaking Queen " :007)

I knew it was coming but I was still stunned and had to grin to see HM take part in this. People comment on her and DC being "stiff", but I think they are not considering the director's idea of the whole thing. Sure it's supposed to be cheeky and surreal, but I thought he was trying to make it seem real. This is supposed to be James Bond escorting the Queen to the ceremony. It's a formal occasion, so they're not going to be exchanging small chit chat on the way (as he would were he accompanying Judi Dench) - and the whole thing is supposed to be a visual feast anyway. Besides, the lady is in her 80's and despite having spent years in front of the camera and interacting with thousands, she is not an actress. I kept those things in mind while watching it, and given those slight handicaps thought she was fine.
People keep mentioning Craig's "monkey walk" through the palace. Except for the striding pace he did up to her chambers, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary in his walk, and I attributed the quick open stride was done to show some energy and to display a feeling of pride of his role as well as his urgency of getting to her quarters on time. His walk with HM to the chopper was a combination of keeping pace with her slower walk as well as trying not to trip over the dogs weaving around their feet. I loved the bit with the Churchill statue (great digital work) and
Craig's look of "Did I just see what I though I saw?". After seeing the clip several times I only really came away with two small quibbles - I think HM would have said "Commander Bond" instead of "Mr. Bond", and the bad segue from the Thames flight in daylight to the jump cut of the abrupt darkness of the stadium. It would also have been even more thrilling had Craig been on hand to show him escorting her to her place in the stands.
Missed most of the Opening Ceremony, but have caught up via videos since then. Fun to read all of your reactions, although took me forever to find this thread - why is it in the Skyfall forum?
Anyone notice that one of the British gymnasts used "Live And Let Die" as the music for her floor exercise routine? After her final tumbling pass, the commentator on American television said, "I'm pretty sure not even James Bond could do THAT." Good stuff.
BTW, just realised that Bond clip where they go over London and everyone looks up and waves, including Churchill - it's a kind of homage to The Snowman, isn't it?
Oh, and btw Harold Sakata aka Oddjob, won a silver medal in the 1948 Olympics, as mentioned in passing in the new and highly readable Olympics Strangest Moments book.
I know I'm reaaaaalllllllly late to this party, but I thought the whole opening ceremony was brilliant.
Craig of course was fantastic :x and the fact the Queen had the sense of humour to do something like that... well, good for her! (I'm sure Wills and Harry helped with the decision ) ) -{
I also thought Mr Bean was brilliant too....
Not usually a fan of the Olympics, but I've been really caught up with it this time round, prob caus it's here - and we had our best day yesterday - I know we're not one for blowing our own trumpet, but bloody hell - we're performing at our best and providing future generations of real role models (rather than the reality stars the press love to hold in esteem) I watched our amazing athletic achievements last night - and cried at some of the interviews.
Proud to be British B-)

There were two things I really noticed about the opening cermony. The first thing you can probably guess. The other thing: When will the Americans hold a Olympic cermony where they celebrate labour unions and their health system!

Hopefully never ...unless said system is free-enterprise, competition-driven, and not a knockoff of Castro's.
Done now.

They were being interviewed on BBC Olympics and revealed that they hadn't a clue about it - she didn't tell anyone, so the whole family was as gobsmacked as the rest of the crowd!
Andy Murray beats Federer to get the Olympic Gold! {[]
Yeah, chuffed for him.
Never been a Murray fan - what with his personality and his ABE comments a few years ago (during the football World Cup?) - but really pleased for him here. He handled it all very well AND sang the National Anthem!!!
Indeed, I felt damn sorry for him -which I never imagined I could - when he was partnered with the, erm, "limited" Laura Robson in the Mixed Doubles.
Of course, didn't Miranda Frost get silver in fencing at the Olympics? Would you describe her as 'limited'? That said, it does bring home how daft that film DAD is, I mean, not exactly low profile is it, getting a silver in the Olympics. It's just, not being a sporting fan at the time, it seemed off the radar to me so I didn't notice.
I think Murray's anti-English rhetoric was just joshing, it's traditional. Amazed how so many held it against him and took against him. It does seem odd to me that the English sometimes only like their heroes once they've been broken and in tears, witness Gazza.

Or maybe in the case of Robson, Frost, Murray (until now) and Gazza, many people in the UK are happy to support failures, and see heroes in (lots of) defeat....?
With these Olympics, I feel something has changed in that regard.
One snag is that the sports don't generate excitement, except at Olympic level, and even then mainly on home turf. It's not like football, which has its own rivalries and soap opera aspect, plus a higher sense of bitterness when bad decisions are made. In a way, that's what makes these Olympics so enjoyable, the sense one is competing with oneself, not some nasty rival. It's free from that low feeling, but on the other hand, I can't really get interesting in Hoy's cycling or any of the rest of it unless it's at the Olympics. I'm not interested in the inbetween stuff, I can't sustain it.
BTW did that diver Tom Daley get anything in the end? I know in the synchronised diving they missed out.
