Any idea on which phone Bond will be using in Skyfall. I heard a rumour that it would be the Sony Xperia S.

It is definitely a Sony, very likely an Xperia, but the absolute particular model is likely going to be one that will be on the market at the same time the film is out. So even if it is an S, there is no saying that it won't be an updated version due this fall.

Anyways, the safe bet is to say a Sony touch screen phone is the certain pick.

I'm due for an upgrade in July ... Wonder if I should wait to see if I can get myself a 007-branded phone like in the past??

I'm not sure as I've listened to many opinions on items like this, such as the Omega watches and clothing ...
... However, I do like the idea of having something that you will only recognise if you are a Bond or film fan, so may be a branded phone is not the way to go!? Any other ides?

I have to agree that Bond will be using the Sony Xperia S. Just my opinion, but it is certain to be a Sony and the Xperia is certainly the one they are plugging atm. I am hoping for a tie-in like CR and QoS. It will be a shame for me to have to let my iPhone go, but being such a huge Bond fan he must come first!!

With the cash reserves Apple has, they could surely convince Sony to put in their iPhone over a Sony phone if they wanted to.

My money is on the Xperia S. I've just said goodbye to my iPhone 4S and purchased one. Really loving it.

Hope you are right with that one then :))

    Still, the Xperia S is a great choice though -{

Well if it isn't then I will buy the correct version, funnily enough though I don't remember seeing Bond with a phone in any of the pictures we have seen from the filming of Skyfall yet.

    Great point Martin.
Perhaps there won't be a phone "featured" at all.
CR and QoS tended to overdo the phone reference/GPS/camera etc don't we think?

I bet it will be featured. It is a great opportunity to do it and it is usually a brief few plugs which is my guess as to why we won't catch him walking around with one in pictures before the film is out.

There is a possibility although annoying as it seems that there may not be a phone featured!

I have a feeling it will be the Xperia S.. I'm currently using the Xperia X10. Got it after my C902 Quantum of Solace edition died on me mid last year after abt 3 yrs of usage..

I am going to stick with my gut and say that it will be a new model, most likely not the Xperia S. I can't see Sony sitting on the S for all of 2012 through to the holiday season since it is their only phone with the Sony (not Sony Ericsson) branding. I imagine there must be more phones in the pipeline and one slated for the market this fall would surely be the one they would benefit most from having in SkyFall rather than the early 2012 model. Not many phone models last for a whole year without updates or new line introductions (iPhone is on a rare release schedule in the phone market).

Besides, the Xperia S is more of a mid-range smartphone. They have gaps open in the high-end phone spot and the Xperia ion is already on the way (for low-ish end?), which makes me think it is even more likely that their release schedule has room for a marketed launch of a fresher product this fall.

But maybe I am just looking at the phone market wrong...

The Xperia S is the current Sony flagship phone.

The Xperia S is the current Sony flagship phone.

Right, which is why I won't say it is a bad guess, or a sound guess. But it was announced in January and will have been months past its prime release point when SkyFall hits, correct? I don't know many Android phone manufacturers that keep talking about one model of theirs from around from beginning of the year to the end without an updated model or full-on successor by the holidays.

At the very least, wouldn't we expect a special edition or model update? It is just hard for me to imagine an Android phone that has largely been out and back from the review critics getting a big ad deal made for a movie that will not be able to sell the phone until November or so.

I could be wrong, as I am no professional market analyst, but from my perspective, the Xperia S will not be the newest Sony phone when the fall holiday shopping rush comes around alongside SkyFall. And if it isn't the newest phone from Sony, or in the case of Xperia S, the phone is long past its launch buzz when SkyFall hits, the product placement will not be utilized as effectively as it could be for Sony mobiles.

If I am off, perhaps someone can better formulate a hypothesis in favor of the Xperia S?

Ian't the iPhone 5 rumoured to be released at about the same time as Skyfall is released? :v

Only kidding - but it would be funny! :))

The Sony Ericsson C902 was launched in February 2008 and Quantum of Solace was released in October 2008. The special edition version of the phone was launched in August 2008.

What will happen is that Sony Mobile, as they are now known, will either launch a tie-in edition of the Xperia S a couple of months before Skyfall is released or they will do a tie-in on whatever flagship device is around at that time.

Yeah, I knew about the C902 dates, but it was pre-smartphone era so I figured it doesn't apply as much. OS's update to better versions more often than those days and phone specs and models seem to pump out quicker in Android specifically.

So I guess we agree there is a good chance that the current model Xperia S will likely be replaced with a new edition or one of the phones that Sony will inevitably add to the Sony brand (rather than Sony Ericsson).

But of course only Sony really knows... ;)

Just visited O2 (UK) this afternoon and they are offering the entire James Bond 22 DVD disc set with any contract with a selected Sony Xperia Phone:

    http://www.o2.co.uk/jamesbond

Also in their customer magazine for July titled From Xperia With Love, there is a feature about the promotion and a review of the phones in the offer with a note on the Sony Xperia P that it comes in Silver which is exclusively available only to O2. My guess is that the Xperia P is going to be the selected phone in Skyfall.

Since posting, there is a Sonymobile website in conjunction with the promotion:

I'd still be careful with a purchase.
Maybe they are doing a special Skyfall color like they did with QoS.
