My tie and Tom Ford collection

006006 Posts: 262MI6 Agent
Howdy all,

Well it's coming upto 9 months since I joined AJB007, and I feel that I have to provide a contribution of my collection to this great forum/community.

Please see the link below of my James Bond ties from Turnbull and Asser and Tom Ford, as well as a few other Tom Ford items.

http://postimage.org/gallery/4of0rjhq/

I will admit the Bolivia tie is not the same as the original, but it is a close alternative.

Enjoy

If you can't afford the real ties, you can do what he did and take a Tom Ford tie that's similar but not the real deal, like his Bolivia tie or PTS.

I think that's a better alternative than Magnoli (except for the Kazan which has no similar alternative) because the feel is nicer.

    Cheers guys,

It took me a few years to get the collection.

Sorry Nico, not selling (at the moment), but if I do decide i'll advertise here first.

Tom Ford do recycle their collection every few years and the basket weave design is always a regular, although it is a bit hit and miss to get the right colours. The Kazan tie was the hardest to find. I do wear some of the ties, my favourite is the PTS (alternative) - navy blue just goes with everything.

I will be adding to the gallery with my other items (these will include the Prada Belt, St Dupont cufflinks, Church's Balmoral (Goldeneye), and Ryder III, and more...).

I will be speaking with TF and they'll keep me informed of the ties and other clothing, will definitely keep you guys posted.

    Watch this space...

Tom Ford never does exactly the same items. Never. They always have differences. The exact ties of QoS were not re-edited and will not be. This was confirmed by the New York store.

Never, Tout? You should know better.

    Never say never...again.

    After all who would say:

"Are these really sold out? I was told they were part of the regular TF collection and thus always available." as you did on another thread.

TF has regular suits and clothing collections, but the fabrics used for accessories are only made once. Ask them.

Great collection, 006! I only have the Tom Ford Bolivia tie (or the VERY close alternative) and the other 4 are all Magnoli. At one point I found the PTS tie but got lazy and didn't order it. I wish I had now!

Any plans for a suit or shirt next?

    Cheers mate,

Funny you should mention about suits, I just had a second fitting for a Tom Ford brown suit, it is similar to the Bolivia style although it isn't the same mohair fabric it is equally as superb - rest assured photos will be added to the gallery.

Just heard from one of my contacts at TF, there is going to be a whole collection specifically for the film, all I can say is that the tux in Skyfall is going to be really cool, a nice shawl tux with a much thinner lapel than QOS.

In relation to the recycling of TF styles, I should have mentioned that some styles such as the basket weave is a standard design, however the problem is trying to find the right colours - saw a Greene Planet style tie recently, but it was turquois blue and silver - saying that the patterned ties are the hardest to find as they will be solely for that season.

My next planned project is to visit Anthony Sinclair to get the iconic Goldfinger suit.

I think that might not be the exact London tie. The real one has dot's that line up horizontal, not diagonal. Still though, a great alternative and a beautiful collection.
  • toutbruntoutbrun Washington, USAPosts: 1,501MI6 Agent
Yeah, the ties are close, but it's not the good ones for the most part.

Very courageous to go for the brown suit, I personally love it, but for most uneducated people, they will think that no brown suit can ever be any nice. I love it.

    Cheers mate,

Couldn't agree with you more, I absolutely loved DC's Bolivia suit, and I already have grey and navy suits, and this particular shade of brown was just perfect.

There was a lot of work and research from Tom Ford at Harrods who diligently researched every swatch to find the right shade and pin point design as the original fabric was discontinued - the cloth used for this suit was actually the undercloth of another fabric, and thanks to Tom Ford Italy who then used the fabric to create this unique suit.

The pics don't really do it true justice to seeing the suit in the flesh - all I can say is that it is a lovely suit.

Your suit seem to have belt loops whereas the film originals have only side adjusters...?

    Hey David,

Yep, the trousers have belt hoops and pleats - it was a personal preference as I have always worn pleated trousers and a belt. The suit jacket is the same Regency style jacket and the trousers are from the Tom Ford Windsor range. As much as the original was great, I tailored the suit for my own style.

I commend your choice to go with your own style, though I don't think belt loops belong on a suit. Are the pleated trousers the same as on Ford's Wetherby suit? Forward-facing pleats I mean, though the Tom Ford website incorrectly calls them reverse pleats.

    Matt,

Many thanks for your comments, and thanks again for your great site - it certainly provided inspiration and help to me and Harrods in identifying the right type of fabric for the suit.

In relation to the pleats, the trousers are double pleated which are reverse facing pleats. I know it may be seen as a traditional outlook on trousers, but it is a choice I feel comfortable with.

Paraphrasing the words of Gabriel Shear in Swordfish the question is whether the suit makes the man, or is it the man that makes the suit, in this case I hope it is a happy medium of both :)

    Hey mate,

I am a 30'' waist, but with Prada I took an 80 which is 31.5'' and the belt fits really well - there are 5 belt holes and I use the middle belt hole.

I would suggest a 90 (35.4'') or 95 (37.4'') would fit you really well - the belt is accommodating for +/- 1.5 inches - also make sure you get the right style - there is a skinny belt version of the Saffiano belt, the one I bought is found in the link below:

I would say it is the right belt, but you'd want to have it in black,
