Moments/Scenes That Need More Praise

Greetings, everyone. Time for a. list.

There. are a long list of moments and scenes that rarely get their proper due.

DN - Bond, Quarrel and Felix interrogate the photographer. As nasty a scene as any in the series. Check out the moment Felix chuckles to himself. Chilling.

FRWL- "You did say your clock was correct?"
"Russian clocks are always- - - "(KA- BOOM!)
A priceless bit of Bondian mayhem. Connery's silent thank- you is
a perfect touch.

GF- Oddjob kills Tilly. After a fun- filled chase, dead silence as Bond deals with another girl he failed to protect. The transition from playful to serious is perfectly handled.

TB- "Strange as it may seem, I' ve grown accustomed to your face."
Bond's dance of death with Fiona is a masterwork of editing by Peter Hunt.

YOLT- Charles Gray as Henderson. What a shame he is killed so fast. Henderson would rank up there with the likes of Kerim Bey if here were given the chance.

OHMSS- Has Bond ever looked so scared out of his wits as when he runs into that laughing polar- bear? Kudos to George.

DAF- "Right idea, Mr. Bond."
"But wrong pussy."
Pound- for- pound, the best Bond- Blofeld confrontation in the series. And Bond shooting Blofeld is an electrifying moment.

LALD- "Did you touch her?!?"
A criminally underrated scene that ranks as one of the greatest confrontations in the series. Superbly acted by one and all but this is Yaphet Kotto at his fiinest.

TMWTGG- Bond arrives on the island and is greeted by Nick- Nack with champagne. Scaramanga graciously opens the bottle. A wonderful piece of villiany. Chistopher Lee' s joy is proof that that being the bad guy can be a whole lot of fun

TSWLM- Bond stoots Stromberg. One the nastiest kills in Roger's tenure. IMO this ranks as high as killing Locque in FYEO as proof Rog's underrated mean streak.

MR- Lois Chiles as Holly Goodhead. A Bond lady who never gets enough praise, as far as I' m concerned. Bonus points for that haymaker she clobbers a goon with at the space station.

FYEO- "I love a drive in the country, don.' t you?"
Bond makes Melina laugh during the car chase and we are reminded that Rog as Bond is ALL about having fun even when the bad guys are out to kill you. Charm, thy name is Roger.

OP- "Spend the money quickly, Mr. Bond."
"I intend to, Kamal Khan."
As good as any gambling scene in the series topped off with that perfect exchange that would have made Fleming proud. Has Bond ever been cooler than when he throws the double sixes and doesn' t even bother to look down.

AVTAK. - Bond, chasing Mayday, lands on top of a moving bus. A truly cool stunt that is so effortlessly handled that we take it for granted.

TLD- During Koskov's briefing, he gives M a list of targeted spies. M looks at the list and glances quickly at Bond. Bond notices the glance and surely realizes that he is on the list. A subtle moment that is expertly handled. Bonus points for Dalton's superb delivery of the line: "Death to spies, Minister."

LTK- A cracking good bar fight preceded by Bond hilariously telling the waittress:"He's had enough." Runnerup- Dario later taunting Bond over the shredder by spitting at him! Bonus points for his crazed look at Pam. "You're dead!"

GE- Bond confronting Alec on the train. From beginning to end, a terrific scene and superbly acted by one and all.

TND- "I doubt she' ll remember me."
"Remind her."
One of the best ever scenes with Dench' s M. On the move, with a drink in her hand, pushing Bond to ignore personal feelings. Bernard Lee would be proud.

TWINE- Bond' s confrontation with Renard. A crackerjack scene that has never gotten the respect it deserves. Bond has rarely seemed so eager to kill anyone. Terrific work by Pierce and Robert Carlyle.

DAD- Gripe all you want about Jinx, but its hard not to get thrilled about the scene where's she is running and shooting at Zao as he tries to make his escape with the helicopter. As good as any bit of action in the film.

CR- Aftr a brutal bit of business in the stairwell, a shaken and stirred 007 pours himself a drink and glances at himself in the mirror. As succinct a moment of reflection as any found in the series and perfectly handled by Craig.

QOS - Bond's fight with Green. The editing is a problem, to be sure, and the match-up appears to be onesided but a smaller villian with an ax and a crazed energy and ferocity is clearly superior to the climactic one- on- one punchups of TWINE and DAD.

Any comments are appreciated

Great list! Thanks for posting! There were a few that I'd like to comment on as well

LALD - I agree with you about the interrogation scene with Bond. Kotto really stood out to me though, "You knew that... YOU KNEW THAT!"

GE - I always felt that the conversation between M and Bond was a great way to usher in a new M. Judi Dench shows that she's no fan of Bond's methods, but the end of the scene reveals she truly does care about him. "Bond... come back alive." followed by a little smile she gives him. The look is in her eyes in this one, letting the audience know M appreciates the agent 007 has become over the years.

TND - The hotel scene where Bond discovers Paris dead, great scene by Brosnan that doesn't really get recognized. The whole film doesn't really get recognized. The scene shows the Bond can go from a lover to a stone-cold killer in just a matter of seconds. Great scene overall by Brosnan.
    "Better luck next time... slugheads!"

It probably did. The line is borrowed from Fleming's novel Moonraker, when Drax says it to Bond after he's been beaten at cards at Blades. :p

MR - Moore scares Goodhead in hotel room from the shadows. "Rah!"

OP - The opening clown chase.

DAF - A much-maligned (and probably deservedly so) Connery entry in the series, but it still has its moments. I enjoyed the look of anger that comes across Bond's face with the gangsters toss Plenty O'Toole out the window ("I didn't know there was a pool down there.") just before Bond clobbers the goon with an elbow to the face!

TWINE - In the PTS, I'll always admire the look of pure distain on Brosnan's face as he glances at the recently deceased Swiss banker who was just shot by Cigar Girl. Priceless!

Eh? Did she do that? Thought it was Brozzer firing the gun in someone else's hand.

Brosnan fired the gun in someone else's hand to shoot one of the henchmen, but I thought Cigar Girl took out the banker just as he was about to reveal certain information. Help me out folks, am I way off base on that?

Brosnan Bond fires the gun from one henchman's hand to kill the second henchman. His look of pure disdain is toward the second henchman, not the Swiss banker . Bond then grabs the Swiss banker who says he will reveal all if he is given protection but is then taken out by the Cigar Girl with a knife to the back of the neck.

TND- the scene at the end when Bond swings across the stealth boat pit to the bridge, and with a very determined, pissed off, "im done playing games" look on his face he coldly guns down those two carvers thugs (one of which was the captain, Carvers second in command) backed by a very intense version of the bond theme like Bond is taking out all his built up rage from this mission from the death of Paris and unleashing it on these two bad guys.

Well at least I was right about one thing - the Cigar girl took out the Swiss banker! (albeit with a knife, not a gun!) And I still liked the look on Brosnan's face, whoever it was directed at! :))

You know bigzilcho, you have listed so many scenes that I have always loved over the years and I agree they don't get enough praise.
They are often stand out scenes from otherwise below par Bond films.
But yes, there are some mentioned by others here that I think are seriously good like the opening clown chase in OP and the first Brosnan and Judy Stench encounter in GE.
Dame Judi can almost look seductive at times. Whoops, did I just type that?

CR - The shower scene. I always thought the music made it one of the most tragically romantic scenes in the franchise.

Thanks for this, zilcho -- great fun as always.

My favorite call-out is the LALD scene. Yaphet Kotto does a nice job playing two different characters, not only with make-up but with different voice inflections and very different movements. Also, Kananga's slap of Solitaire is a pretty brutal and cruel scene that doesnt' get much recognition as such.
    Hilly...you old devil!

    NSNA gets little praise, understandably.

But Bond's trespass involving the ageing doorman or bouncer at the casino, nicely done. Skip forward to 007's return to the French villa in the early hours, and you almost have a nice few minutes of footage.

I would call out a moment from my least favourite Bond actor, in one of my least favourite Bond films: Roger Moore's reaction after barely escaping death in the centrifuge. No witty repartee, nothing except dazed shock as he disregards Holly's inquiries and gets away from the contraption...

I also love the scene in TND where Bond is alone in the hotel room, drinking shots of vodka before Paris Carver arrives -{ Very Fleming :007)
